AVEdition Loewe. 100 Years Design History
In the iF ranking, Loewe is among the top 10 German companies awarded for exceptional design performances. This is a good reason to take a close look at the design history of the company on the occasion of its 100-year anniversary. The design historian Kilian Steiner distinguishes three historical phases: The first phase (1923 to 1945) marks the build-up and destruction of the Loewe brand. In the second phase (1945 to 1985), the focus was on the rebuilding of Loewe and overcoming numerous changes. The third period from 1985 onwards saw the rise of Loewe to an internationally renowned design brand. For the first time, the creative minds in product and communication design who contributed to the development of the brand are named and previously unknown details of the Loewe corporate history are revealed. From its foundation in 1923 to the invention of the electronic television in 1931, Loewe has evolved into a globally operating design brand. A unique combination of German engineering, excellence, exclusive design and sustainability have shaped the brand culture. Text in English and German.

AVEdition Trade Fair Design Annual 2018/19
Change and transformation are currently characteristic not only of our society and our socio-cultural structures, but also our economic structures and therefore also the exhibition industry: traditional approaches to brand communication no longer appear to take full effect, although the core of the longstanding trade fair business perhaps holds the key to the future of the traditional platform: in real encounters and individual exchanges. In accordance with this, over the forthcoming years it will increasingly be about shaping this discussion, creating spaces for it, enabling especially personal contacts amidst a communication guided by bots, thereby shaping change. Of course, this edition of the Trade Fair Design Yearbook is not oblivious to this either: from October 2018, the publication will be issued in a new, even higher quality design, extending increasingly into digital, as well as real space. AVEdition Brand Experience & Trade Fair Design Annual 2022/23
It is definite: The trade fair is not dead, the trade fair is changing! And, going forward, this will not be the last time it has to adjust with agility to new circumstances. Designers will need to analyse the qualities of space again more closely – be it the physical space or the digital space: Space should be staged and designed so as to support communication, facilitate encounter and experience, create an immersive effect and, of course, provide content that adds value. But this also means that communication strategies need to be fixed beforehand, particularly if the focus is on positions and visions rather than products as in the past. It will be about connecting people with brands on many different levels in order to shape the future together. Text in English and German.

Creative stopgaps, as well as analogue and digital elements that appeal to all our senses, give new impulses for urban retailing. On the way to a retail metaverse, high-touch meets high-tech. The world is changing. A host of developments are impacting our lives: sustainability, values, equality, purpose, digitisation or 'Gen Z'. It allows us to revel in projects that have been prohibited for months in 2020. It also shows experience concepts from the time before COVID-19. With all the foreseen changes after the pandemic, as described for example by Cedric Ebener in an interview, one can only speculate how the concepts presented here might look in future. AVEdition Recyclable by Werner Sobek
The Urban Mining and Recycling (UMAR) Experimental Unit, located on the campus of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, was designed by Werner Sobek with Dirk E. Hebel and Felix Heisel. All the elements required to construct the unit had to be 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable. Of central importance is the idea that instead of using and subsequently disposing of resources, they can be borrowed from their technical and biological cycles for a certain amount of time before being put back into circulation once again. This project demonstrates how a responsible approach to dealing with natural resources can be applied to creating appealing and sustainable buildings, and places life-cycle thinking at the forefront of design.
