Developments in the understanding of pressure sensitivity were necessary to use macromolecular chemistry for pressure-sensitive design. The book generally shows the interrelation between allyl unit structure of the initial ester and composition and structure of its products. The first part studies the pathways of chemical regrouping in chlorallylaryl and bisarylallyl esters using quantum-chemical calculations. Energy parameters, structural features and electron structure of intermediates and transition states are also discussed. Simple and regioselective methods for compound synthesis inaccessible in other production techniques are developed. For the first time, new four- and eight-term nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds were produced by aniline alkenylation technique. In 0.05% aqueous solution these compounds displayed 100% activity in suppression of sulfate-reducing bacterium growth. Two new classes of complex action preparations designed for the oil production rate increase were obtained by heterocyclic amine alkenylation. Production methods for N-alkenyl ammonium salts derived from hexamethylene tetramine are developed and introduced into production, and compounds are used on oil fields. In the second part production methods of new mono-, di-, tri- and tetra-tert-butyl hexamethylene tetramine chlorides are discussed. These compounds fully suppress sulfate-reducing bacterium growth already in 200 – 500 mg/l concentration. A universal technology deriving bactericides and sulfide corrosion inhibitors for metals from methallyl chloride is developed. It also gives a method for organochlorine waste and methallyl chloride production wastewater management, safe for the environment.

The monograph is intended for elucidation of the novel trend in chemical physics regarding the polymer non-crystalline phase. It stresses the physical phenomena affecting the kinetics and mechanism of chemical reactions proceeding in the non-crystalline polymer matrix (NCPM). NCPM is depicted in terms of a supramolecular (carcass-micellar) model. The model is thought to reflect heterophase packing of polymeric chains, which co-operate as a molecular-chain sponge. The NCPM model presented is proved for adequate description of principal structure-physical phenomena to elaborate the scheme of structural-kinetic modeling of chemical reactions in bulky polymers. Structure-physical phenomena elucidated in the monograph are: - peculiarities of polymer plasticization and polymer blending with liquids; - structural and thermodynamic aspects of sorption of low molecular species; - properties of ESR (spin) probes and optical (molecular) probes; - features of water absorbed by polymers; - mechanical and thermal effects generated by the molecular-chain sponge; - supramolecular aspects of NCPM chemical physics. This monograph includes the structural-kinetic modeling of complex polymer chemical reactions. It deals with the problem of mechanism and kinetics of free radical chain reactions using thermal and photochemical model reactions of dibenzoyl peroxide with glassy-like polymers (cellulose triacetate, polycarbonate, polystyrene, polyamide PA-548), viscoelastic polymers (atactic polypropylene, polyamide PA-548, polyethylene, polyisobutylene, melted poly(ethylene oxide), and isotactic polypropylene. As an Indo-European language, Armenian has been the subject of etymological research for over a hundred years. There are many valuable systematic handbooks, studies and surveys on comparative Armenian linguistics. Almost all of these works, with a few exceptions, mostly concentrate on Classical Armenian and touch the dialects only sporadically. Non-literary data taken from Armenian dialects have largely remained outside of the scope of Indo-European etymological considerations. This book provides an up-to-date description of the Indo-European lexical stock of Armenian with systematic inclusion of dialectal data. It incorporates the lexical, phonetic, and morphological material in the Armenian dialects into the etymological treatment of the Indo-European lexicon. In this respect it is completely new.

This book presents a modification of the dialectical method of Jean-Paul Sartre as a tool for critical discourse on aesthetic experience. Three practical demonstrations are offered of the modified progressive-regressive method: (1) on the original location and function of a medieval altarpiece, (2) on a theme in the literature of the Marquis de Sade, and (3) on a theory of consciousness in a novel by Samuel Beckett. Since the publication of the second edition of this outstanding collection, there has been a continued and rapid growth in the number international conventions, protocols, declarations and recommendations governing migration; and a transformation of the European Union's the legislation on the subject. The present edition takes account of these developments. Among the new instruments appearing in this edition are the EU's Minimum Standards Directive, its Responsibility Directive and the Family Union Directive, the European Convention on Nationality, several Conclusions of the Executive Committee of the UNHCR and Protocol No 12 to the European Convention on Human Rights. Account has been taken of the entry into force of certain of the instruments which, at the time of the second edition, remained without legal effect. Chief among these is the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families, which entered into force on 1 July 2003 and at the end of 2005 had 27 parties. As in the second edition, the first four Parts deal respectively with general multilateral instruments, texts governing nationality and statelessness, general instruments on refugees and Council of Europe Instruments. Parts Five, Six, Seven and Eight, which are substantially composed of new measures, deal with aspects of EU law or policy, replacing the two parts devoted to this subject in the second edition, which in turn replaced a single chapter in the first edition. This publication is not intended for scholars alone, but also for practitioners in migration law. The texts are of practical significance for those concerned with the administration of the laws affecting migration and for representatives of those affected by these laws. Commissioned by the Japan Society as the companion volume to British Envoys in Japan, 1959-1972 (2004), this collection of essays on a century of official Japanese representation in the United Kingdom completes the history of bilateral diplomatic relations up to the mid-1960s, concluding with Ambassador Ohno Katsumi’s highly successful six-year assignment in 1964. Liang Shuming (1895-1988) is one of the most important Chinese philosophers in twentieth century China. Generally considered to be a Confucian, and even the last Confucian, the author argues that he was in fact a Buddhist. Liang’s thoughts are analysed within the background of the intellectual debates on religion in republican China. He reshaped the Western concept of religion from the standpoint of Yogācāra Buddhism. Yet, he advocated for the present time Confucianism as the ethical religion that would lead ultimately to the Buddhist liberation. Examining Liang’s religious belief sheds new light on his fascinating life, particularly his involvement in the Rural Reconstruction movement of the nineteen-thirties. It also explains why Liang was the only intellectual who dared to publically oppose Mao in the nineteen-sixties and seventies.

This monograph aims to give an overview of recent chemical and technological developments in the area of polymers and co-polymers derived from isobutylene, which have a wide range of (industrial) applications.
