Lars Muller Publishers I Have a Weakness for a Touch of Red
In 'I Have a Weakness for a Touch of Red' the passionate art and architecture critic Yehuda Emmanuel Safran collects a selection of his essays on architects and artists from Portugal that he has written since the 1980s. These are supplemented by further contributions on the most influential representatives of modern architecture. Through this historical and at the same time very personal context, Safran places Portuguese architecture in an unprecedented perspective for the international readership, revealing the preservation of longstanding traditions as well as the increasing desire of an emerging generation that has, to an extent, overcome those traditions.

Lucky Spool Media By the Bundle: Turn Precuts into Patchwork with 12 Fat Quarter-Friendly Quilts
No quilter can resist a stack of beautifully co-ordinated fabrics all neatly folded into a bundle and tied with a bow. As more fabric stores specialise in combining and marketing their own custom bundles of fat quarters, it leaves many quilters with just a ‘taste’ of many fabrics in the form of these 18 x 22’’ cuts (called fat quarters) but not really enough to make an entire quilt out of. Emma, a former fabric shop owner in Australia herself, inspires quilters to create one of her 12 quilts specifically designed to showcase these fabulous cuts whether they are from a single fabric collection or a complementary combination of many fabric lines. Emma’s patterns cross over beautifully between the modern and the new traditional quilt maker alike.

Black Dog Press In aching agony and longing I wait for you by the Spring of Thieves
Posing questions about memory, the body, folklore and rituals, Jumana Emil Abboud's artistic practice confronts the telling and retelling of history and the impacts of language and the fragmentation of memories. In aching agony and longing I wait for you by the Spring of Thieves includes a selection of the Jerusalem based artist's visual, poetic and text-based projects spanning 20 years, and contributions by Marina Warner and Tina Sherwell engage closely with Abboud's practice. In aching agony and longing I wait for you by the Spring of Thieves' three chapters focus on Abboud's long engagement with folktales from Palestine and elsewhere. The first chapter entitled, "The Book of Haunted Landscapes" addresses Abboud's connection to the landscape of her homeland and showcases drawings, videos and performances connected to Palestinian folktales, as well as her recent collaboration with filmmaker Issa Freij in which they return to haunted springs and water wells described in 1922 by ethnographer Tawfiq Canaan. A second chapter; "From Lamb to Monster: A Study of Transformation" deals with stories and themes of transformation and journeying, while bridging these with contemporary life in the region. The third chapter, "Happy Endings: The Book of Spells and Remedies" celebrates magical beings and bodies, instilling-after morbid events-a sense of the possibility of realising emancipatory endings. The book also includes collected Palestinian tales that have inspired the artist throughout her practice. In aching agony and longing I wait for you by the Spring of Thieves marks the finissage of Abboud's solo exhibition The Horse, the Bird, the Tree and the Stone at Bildmuseet and the inauguration of her solo show The pomegranate and the sleeping ghoul at Darat al Funun-The Khalid Shoman Foundation. Supported by Bildmuseet and Darat al Funun-The Khalid Shoman Foundation.

Pen & Sword Books Ltd Red Star Against the Swastika
'A gripping insight into the war's bloodiest campaign.' Military Illustrated This is the extraordinary story of Vasily B. Emelianenko, the veteran pilot of one of the Soviet Union's most contradictory planes of the Second World War - the I1-2. This heavily armoured aircraft was practically unrivalled in terms of fire power, but it was slow to manoeuvre and an easy target for fighters. I1-2 had to attack enemy flak columns at extremely low altitudes, which led to enormous tolls both in equipment and personnel. It is no wonder then that, having flown eighty combat sorties against the Germans, Emelianenko was awarded the highest decoration - the Hero of the Soviet Union. He went on to complete a total of ninety-two sorties. His plane was shot down three times, and on each occasion he managed to pilot the damaged aircraft home, demonstrating remarkable resilience and bravery in the face of terrifying odds. Emelianenko's vivid memoirs provide a rare insight into the reality of fighting over the Eastern Front and the tactics of the Red Army Air Force. With remarkable clarity, he recalls what it was like to come face to face with a skilled, deadly and increasingly desperate enemy.Hair-raising encounters with fighters, forced landings on enemy territory, and the death of friends are all brought dramatically and movingly to life in this rare first-hand account.

Archaeopress Roman and Late Antique Wine Production in the Eastern Mediterranean: A Comparative Archaeological Study at Antiochia ad Cragum (Turkey) and Delos (Greece)
Roman and Late Antique Wine Production in the Eastern Mediterranean is devoted to the viticulture of two settlements, Antiochia ad Cragum and Delos, using results stemming from surface survey and excavation to assess their potential integration within the now well-known agricultural boom of the 5th-7th centuries AD. Interdisciplinary and ethnographic data supplements the main archaeological catalogue and provides a rounded understanding of production and use. The publication of an excavated vinicultural vat in Rough Cilicia for the first time, along with the first complete discussion of the viticultural industry on Delos in Late Antiquity, underscores the significance of this book. The combined catalogue, analysis and discussion reinforce the noteworthy position viticulture held in Late Antiquity as an agricultural endeavour, sociocultural and economic factor engrained within eastern Mediterranean settlements.

St Martin's Press Wicked Saints: A Novel
When Nadya prays to the gods, they listen, and magic flows through her veins. For nearly a century the Kalyazi have been locked in a deadly holy war with Tranavian heretics, and her power is the only thing that is a match for the enemy's blood magic. But when the Travanian High Prince, and his army invade the monastery she is hiding in, instead of saving her people, Nadya is forced to flee the only home she's ever known, leaving it in flames behind her, and vengeance in her heart. As night falls, she chooses to defy her gods and forge a dangerous alliance with a pair of refugees and their Tranavian blood mage leader, a beautiful, broken boy who deserted his homeland after witnessing his blood cult commit unthinkable monstrosities. The plan? Assassinate the king and stop the war. But when they discover a nefarious conspiracy that goes beyond their two countries, everything Nadya believes is thrown into question, including her budding feelings for her new partner. Someone has been harvesting blood mages for a dark purpose, experimenting with combining Tranavian blood magic with the Kalyazi's divine one. In order to save her people, Nadya must now decide whether to trust the High Prince - her country's enemy - or the beautiful boy with powers that may ignite something far worse than the war they're trying to end.

The Catholic University of America Press Shaping American Catholicism: Maryland and New York, 1805-1915
Distinguished historian Robert Emmett Curran presents an informed and balanced study of the American Catholic Church’s experience in its two most important regions in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Spanning the years 1805 to 1915, Curran highlights the rivalry and tension between the Northeast and Southeast, specifically New York and Maryland, in assuming leadership of the church in America and the Society of Jesus. Slavery, polity, religious culture, education, the intellectual life, and social justice—all were integral to the American Church’s formation and development, and each is explored in this book. The essays provide a unique vantage point to the American Catholic experience by their focus on two communities that played such an incomparable role in shaping the character of the church in America. Though Baltimore was half the size of New York in population, until the 1900s it held a significant edge in the number of churches, priests, and religious orders serving the needs of its own immigrant community. By 1900 the place that Maryland had occupied as the premier see of the Church in America was won by New York in actuality if not in title. Based on exemplary archival research and scholarship, the book offers an engaging history of the northward shift in power and influence in the nineteenth century.
