Pearson Education (US) CERT Resilience Management Model (CERT-RMM): A Maturity Model for Managing Operational Resilience
CERT® Resilience Management Model (CERT-RMM) is an innovative and transformative way to manage operational resilience in complex, risk-evolving environments. CERT-RMM distills years of research into best practices for managing the security and survivability of people, information, technology, and facilities. It integrates these best practices into a unified, capability-focused maturity model that encompasses security, business continuity, and IT operations. By using CERT-RMM, organizations can escape silo-driven approaches to managing operational risk and align to achieve strategic resilience management goals. This book both introduces CERT-RMM and presents the model in its entirety. It begins with essential background for all professionals, whether they have previously used process improvement models or not. Next, it explains CERT-RMM’s Generic Goals and Practices and discusses various approaches for using the model. Short essays by a number of contributors illustrate how CERT-RMM can be applied for different purposes or can be used to improve an existing program. Finally, the book provides a complete baseline understanding of all 26 process areas included in CERT-RMM. Part One summarizes the value of a process improvement approach to managing resilience, explains CERT-RMM’s conventions and core principles, describes the model architecturally, and shows how it supports relationships tightly linked to your objectives. Part Two focuses on using CERT-RMM to establish a foundation for sustaining operational resilience management processes in complex environments where risks rapidly emerge and change. Part Three details all 26 CERT-RMM process areas, from asset definition through vulnerability resolution. For each, complete descriptions of goals and practices are presented, with realistic examples. Part Four contains appendices, including Targeted Improvement Roadmaps, a glossary, and other reference materials. This book will be valuable to anyone seeking to improve the mission assurance of high-value services, including leaders of large enterprise or organizational units, security or business continuity specialists, managers of large IT operations, and those using methodologies such as ISO 27000, COBIT, ITIL, or CMMI.

Karolinum,Nakladatelstvi Univerzity Karlovy,Czech Republic But Crime Does Punish
A haunting novel of post-Soviet Slovakia, centering on an enigmatic one-sided conversation. “So, as you see, I am familiar with the case. However, we can’t discuss it unless you learn more about some other court cases, so that you can compare your father’s trial with other, more baffling cases, and see it in the context of the madness that reigned at the time.” Ján Johanides’ riveting Slovak novel immediately thrusts you into the midst of a bewildering second-person dialogue, bestowing the reader with the role of a silent partner in a one-sided conversation with a mysterious archivist. As the story unfurls piece by piece, it becomes clear that the archivist, who can’t seem to stay on topic, has both a tragic history and the key to unlocking your family’s darkest secret, a secret that may or may not involve the Czechoslovak secret police, American and Soviet intelligence, Israeli politics, and a tire full of dollars. Set after the fall of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, But Crimes Do Punish is awash with paranoia, revealing how the madness of the Communist era continues to bleed into the instability of the present. Written in 1995, this haunting novel—the first work of Slovak fiction published by Karolinum Press—evokes the spirit of John le Carré and the style of Carlos Fuentes while illuminating issues that still plague post-Communist Europe.

Hirmer Verlag Komar and Melamid: A Lesson in History
Among the most compelling artists in the history of conceptual art, the Russian-Americans Komar and Melamid used humor and irony to lambaste Soviet officialdom. With new scholarship and full-color illustrations, the book explores their journey from working under an oppressive regime to finding new subjects in the US for their provocative critique. From the invention of Sots Art, a conceptual movement that emerged in the early 1970s in the Soviet Union, to their sardonic Most Wanted Paintings project, based on market research, to the end of their joint career in the US, Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid challenged viewers with provocative, witty and ironic art. Lavishly illustrated the book includes the latest scholarship on the duo and historically important texts, offering a renewed interpretation of the artists’ social and political concerns.

UEA Publishing Project Premeditated: UEA Creative Writing Anthology Crime Fiction: 2020
"Crime fiction is an extraordinary genre. It's one that doesn't know its place, and never really has... There is a reason why crime fiction is still so loved, and why the writers featured in the following pages are telling the stories we want to hear. The human appetite for the grisly is an entirely natural one. Blood, cruelty and deception lie behind the oldest stories we've been told... There's nothing beats a stunning good murder, after all." - William Shaw "Crime writing is a broad church. Far from being just about cops and robbers, violence, action and entertainment, at its best it holds a mirror up to our world, urging us to examine the line between right and wrong, and what leads people to cross it. The best crime fiction leans into the darkest and the noblest parts of humanity, and can take us into all areas of society - from inner city council estate to remote Greek island, from outwardly innocent English suburbia to raw, Australian outback. You'll find all of that in here, and more." - Julia Crouch

Wits University Press A Long Way Home: Migrant worker worlds 1800–2014
In no other society in the world have urbanisation and industrialisation been as comprehensively based on migrant labour as in South Africa. Rather than focusing on the well-documented narrative of displacement and oppression, A Long Way Home captures the humanity, agency and creative modes of self-expression of the millions of workers who helped to build and shape modern South Africa. The book spans a three-hundred-year history beginning with the exportation of slave labour from Mozambique in the eighteenth century and ending with the strikes and tensions on the platinum belt in recent years. It shows not only the age-old mobility of African migrants across the continent but also, with the growing demand for labour in the mining industry, the importation of Chinese slaves. The essays and visual materials traverse homesteads, chiefdoms and mining hostels in their portrayal of migrant workers’ and their families’ attempts to maintain contact across large distances and uphold their rural customs, traditions and rituals in new spaces and locations. Together, they provide multiple perspectives on the lived experience of migrant labourers and celebrate their extraordinary journeys. A Long Way Home was conceived during the planning of an art exhibition entitled ‘Ngezinyawo: Migrant Journeys’ at the Wits Art Museum. The interdisciplinary nature of the contributions and the extraordinary collection of images selected to complement and expand on the text make this a unique collection.

Policy Press Coming to care: The work and family lives of workers caring for vulnerable children
Coming to Care offers an original contribution to the understanding of care and care work in children's services in Britain in the early twenty first century. It provides fascinating insights into the factors that influence why people enter and leave care work, their motivations and the intersection of their work with their family lives. Focusing on four diverse groups of workers - residential social workers, foster carers, family support workers and community childminders - who take on the care of vulnerable children and young people in the context of relatively low levels of qualifications, the book examines their life course as care workers. It explores: the range of factors that attract people into care work, including the biographical circumstances and the serendipitous factors that propel them into the work; their understandings of and commitment to the work; and how their identities as care workers are created and sustained. The book is highly relevant to current policy debates about the development of children's services and reforming the childcare workforce and offers a range of practical recommendations. It should provide interesting reading to policy makers and service providers, as well as academics and students in the childcare and social care fields.

Boydell & Brewer Ltd A Companion to Miguel de Unamuno
Surveys the thought and literary work of a towering figure in twentieth-century Spanish cultural and political life. As a novelist, dramatist, essayist, poet and public intellectual, Miguel de Unamuno (1864-1936) was a strikingly energetic and prolific writer, and a towering figure in twentieth-century Spanish cultural and political life. His work explored fundamental questions about existence and identity (both individual and national).Widely recognised and translated during his lifetime, he was an inescapably canonical figure on university syllabi across Europe and the Americas for many years after his death, and still appears on many curricula. In this Companion, a range of distinguished scholars with very different approaches both survey Unamuno's work chronologically, analysing major developments and turning points or breaks as well as continuities, and further study key themes and preoccupations across his prolific narrative, theatrical and essay output. All contributors offer not just incisive discussion of the texts or topics studied, but also a balanced overview of issues and debates arising in Unamuno studies. Julia Biggane is senior lecturer in Hispanic Studies at the University of Aberdeen. She is a general editor of theBulletin of Spanish Studies, and director of the Sir Herbert Grierson Centre for Textual Criticism and Comparative Literary History at the University of Aberdeen. Emerald Publishing Limited Work Life After Failure?: How Employees Bounce Back, Learn, and Recover from Work-Related Setbacks
Work environments are paved with challenges and uncertainties that can result in the risk of setbacks and personal failure. Experiencing negative events such as these can be devastating for employees. This results in employees becoming distracted, detaching themselves from work and being unable to effectively engage in their work activities. Work Life after Failure?: How Employees Bounce Back, Learn, and Recover from Work-Related Setbacks brings together the knowledge from three distinct concepts that currently lack integration: resilience, learning, and recovery. The authors regard resilience as the positive adaptation after adversity and examine aspects of learning from failure as a process of improvement through enhanced knowledge and understanding after negative professional experiences. The exploration of recovery is situated in the context of a process of reducing strain symptoms that were caused by work-related events. Together, these three concepts advance our understanding of how to effectively use personal resources to overcome the experience of failure and what organizations can do to support employees during these difficult times. Encompassing both conceptual and empirical work from experts in the fields of resilience, learning from failure, and recovery, this book also sheds light on the classification of failures and setbacks and develops a measure of the setback severity.

AU Press Dissenting Traditions: Essays on Bryan D. Palmer, Marxism, and History
The work of Bryan D. Palmer, one of North America’s leading historians, has influenced the fields of labour history, social history, discourse analysis, communist history, and Canadian history, as well as the theoretical frameworks surrounding them. Palmer’s work reveals a life dedicated to dissent and the difficult task of imagining alternatives by understanding the past in all of its contradictions, victories, and failures. Dissenting Traditions gathers Palmer’s contemporaries, students, and sometimes critics to examine and expand on the topics and themes that have defined Palmer’s career, from labour history to Marxism and communist politics. Paying attention to Palmer’s participation in key debates, contributors demonstrate that class analysis, labour history, building institutions, and engaging the public are vital for social change. In this moment of increasing precarity and growing class inequality, Palmer’s politically engaged scholarship offers a useful roadmap for scholars and activists alike and underlines the importance of working-class history.

University of Toronto Press Housing, Homelessness, and Social Policy in the Urban North
Housing, Homelessness, and Social Policy in the Urban North brings together leading scholars on northern urban housing across the Canadian North, Alaska, and Greenland. Through various case studies, the contributors examine the ways in which housing insecurity and homelessness provide a critical lens on the social dimensions of northern urbanization. They also present key considerations in the development of effective and sustainable social policy for these areas. The book kickstarts a conversation between multiple stakeholders from different cultural and national regions across the North American north. It asks key questions including these: What are the common problems of, and responses to, housing insecurity and homelessness across these northern regions? Is a single definition of “homelessness” even possible, or desirable? And if not, can a shared language around how to end the housing crisis and homelessness in our northern regions still occur? The contributors explore how experiences of northern towns and cities inform an overall understanding of urban forms and processes in the contemporary world, and speak directly to the emerging body of literature on cities. Highlighting key limitations to federal, state, and provincial policy, Housing, Homelessness, and Social Policy in the Urban North raises important implications for developing policy that is responsive to northern realities.

Oxford University Press Immigration Law Handbook
The Immigration Law Handbook has established itself as the gold standard in the field and has become an invaluable resource for immigration practitioners including Asylum and Immigration Tribunal judges, barristers, solicitors, and caseworkers working in immigration, asylum, and human rights law. In this new edition, all sections have been updated to reflect the various changes to the immigration rules since 2018, especially as a result of Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. Most notable is the inclusion of the Immigration and Social Security Co-ordination (EU Withdrawal) Act 2020 which made provision to end rights to free movement of people under EU law and to repeal other EU law relating to immigration. Three new Statutory Instruments set the transitional and saving provisions to which the Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2016 are now subject. Four more new Statutory Instruments are also included: The Immigration (Guidance on Detention of Vulnerable Persons) Regulations 2018 and three relating to Brexit: The Immigration (European Economic Area Nationals)(EU Exit) Order 2019; Immigration (Citizens' Rights Appeals) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020; and The Citizens' Rights (Frontier Workers) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020. The Immigration Rules have been subject to 22 statements of changes since the last edition, some of which are significant. This edition captures all changes in the Immigration Rules up to and including those coming into force in July 2021. The Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007, the Tribunal Procedure (First-tier Tribunal) (Immigration and Asylum) Rules 2014 and the Tribunal Procedure (Upper Tribunal) Rules 2008 all include amendments made in response to circumstances arising as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Procedure Rules and Practice Directions section has been expanded to include practice statements and brought up to date with the latest rules and guidelines. Finally, the European Materials section has been streamlined to include just the two most relevant, relating to free movement and workers' rights. Coverage of recent new legislation sits alongside existing important legislation to maintain the strengths of the handbook as a reference tool whilst providing the reader with up-to-date access to all new developments in a single volume. Useful links to online materials are provided to guide readers towards supplementary information.

Local case studies examine the relevant structural, institutional, and socio-cultural causes of the global challenges to equality. This book follows an interdisciplinary approach and unites scholars from law, linguistics, cultural studies, history, social sciences, and gender studies in diverse contexts.

JCB Mohr (Paul Siebeck) Authorship and the Hebrew Bible
Does "authorship" still have a place in the study of the Hebrew Bible? Historical criticism has long sought to uncover the human authors behind the biblical texts. But how might the "death of the author," so forcefully declared by Roland Barthes over fifty years ago, change the contours of this search? This volume brings together leading experts in the Hebrew Bible, the Dead Sea Scrolls, cuneiform texts and cognate literature to reimagine the literary and discursive functions of "authorship" in ancient Israel. Bridging the gap between theoretical reflection and exegetical practice, the volume explores key features of biblical texts, from anonymity to divine speech, scribal editing to textual fluidity, to reveal the complex and varied author functions that shaped biblical literature.

Rizzoli International Publications One Man's Folly: The Exceptional Houses of Furlow Gatewood
This Southern gentleman's beloved property in bucolic Americus, Georgia, has absorbed him for over six decades. It consists of four intimate dwellings that exemplify various southern architectural traditions - from a mid-nineteenth-century Gothic to a Palladian-inspired cottage - charming gardens, and out buildings. Gatewood shares his personal reflections on how he has created a unique world for himself tailored to his refined sensibility. Captured in thoughtful photographs, his seductive spaces illustrate a relaxed Arcadian style. Gatewood describes the hunt for discovering singular antique and vintage pieces with a poetic patina. He is an expert on custom paint finishes and composing subtle colour palettes, and has an innate talent for incorporating arresting architectural elements. With flair, he has collected art, antique furnishings, and decorative objects, which are artfully displayed in the beautifully appointed dwellings. Gatewood respects the importance of old world craftsmanship and architectural restoration, and takes delight in designing picturesque grounds and plantings, as well as creating comfy areas for his beloved dogs and peacocks. His close friend, Bunny Williams, has contributed a section about the lessons she has learned from this master of discernment.
