Reality exists independently of human observers, but does the same apply to its structure? Realist ontologies usually assume so: according to them, the world consists of objects, these have properties and enter into relations with each other, more or less as we are accustomed to think of them. Against this view, Rein Raud develops a radical process ontology that does not credit any vantage point, any scale or speed of being, any range of cognitive faculties with the privilege to judge how the world ‘really’ is. In his view, what we think of as objects are recast as fields of constitutive tensions, cross-sections of processes, never in complete balance but always striving for it and always reconfiguring themselves accordingly. The human self is also understood as a fluctuating field, not limited to the mind but distributed all over the body and reaching out into its environment, with different constituents of the process constantly vying for control. The need for such a process philosophy has often been voiced, but rarely has there been an effort to develop it in a systematic and rigourous manner that leads to original accounts of identity, continuity, time, change, causality, agency and other topics. Convective heat transfer plays a role in many branches of science and engineering, as well as in aspects of daily life. Due to its importance, it deserves to be given a closer look. This book shows some real complexities of convective heat transfer in more rigorous ways, with most aspects described by partial differential equations. Defined by Fourier's law, heat flux is transported by convection. Thus, the transport of heat flux can be described using the convective transport equation of the heat flux, which may provide more information. The significance of this description is that the velocity gradient's contribution to the transport of heat flux is stated implicitly and may be connected to the mechanical dissipation. A description of the transport of the momentum flux is provided in this book, focusing on both the mechanical energy prepared by production from the main flow and the mechanical energy dissipated by vorticity. Based on the convective transport equations of heat flux and momentum flux, a correlation between the contribution to the transport of heat flux and mechanical energy production and dissipation is established. Additional topics discussed herein include the transport characteristics of heat flux, the impact of velocity and its gradients on the transport of heat flux in a channel flow, a tube flow, a channel flow with vortex generators and a twisted elliptical tube flow. As secondary flow and vorticity are commonly used for the enhancement of convective heat transfer, the roles of secondary flow and vorticity in the convective transport of heat flux are discussed. The intensity of convective heat transfer is only defined by the surface which heat is transferred through; it is not defined in the fluid region. Combustion science, oceanography, meteorology, and geoscience pay much attention to local convective heat transfer intensity. A territory of 'pattern-chaos' or 'chaos-pattern' begins to unfold. Drawing upon fields such as visual culture, sociology, physics, neurobiology, linguistics or critical theory, for example, contributors have experimented with pattern and/or chaos-related forms, processes, materials, sounds and language or have reflected on the work of other artists, scientists and scholars. Diagrams, tessellations, dust, knots, mazes, folds, creases, flux, virus, fire and flow are indicative of processes through which pattern and chaos are addressed. The contributions are organized into clusters of subjects which reflect the interdisciplinary terrain through a robust, yet also experimental, arrangement. These are 'Pattern Dynamics', 'Morph Flux Mutate', 'Decompose Recompose', 'Virus; Social Imaginary' and 'Nothings in Particular'.
