In Europe today, staunchly nationalist parties such as France’s National Front and the Austrian Freedom Party are identified as far-right movements, though supporters seldom embrace that label. More often, “far right” is pejorative, used by liberals to tar these groups with the taint of Fascism, Nazism, and other discredited ideologies. Jean-Yves Camus and Nicolas Lebourg’s critical look at the far right throughout Europe—from the United Kingdom to France, Germany, Poland, Italy, and elsewhere—reveals a prehistory and politics more complex than the stereotypes suggest and warns of the challenges these movements pose to the EU’s liberal-democratic order.The European far right represents a confluence of many ideologies: nationalism, socialism, anti-Semitism, authoritarianism. In the first half of the twentieth century, the radical far right achieved its apotheosis in the regimes of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. But these movements have evolved significantly since 1945, as Far-Right Politics in Europe makes clear. The 1980s marked a turning point in political fortunes, as national-populist parties began winning seats in European parliaments. Abraham and Torok advocate a form of psychoanalysis that insists on the particularity of any individual's life story, the specificity of texts and the singularity of historical situations. In what is both a critique and an extension of Freud, they develop interpretive strategies with implications for clinicians, literary theorists, feminists, philosophers and all others interested in the uses and limits of psychoanalysis. Central to their approach is a general theory of psychic concealment, a poetics of hiding. Whether in a clinical setting or a literary text, they search out the unspeakable secret as a symptom of devastating trauma revealed only in linguistic or behavioural encodings. Their view of trauma provides the linchpin for new psychic and linguistic structures such as the "transgenerational phantom", an undisclosed family secret handed down to an unwitting descendant, and the intrapsychic secret or "crypt" which entombs an unspeakable but consummated desire. Throughout, Abraham and Torok seek to restore communication with those intimate recesses of the mind which are, for one reason or another, denied expression. A promising long-term evolution of surgery relies on intracorporeal microrobotics. This book deals with air-ground aeronautical communications. The main goal is to give the reader a survey of the currently deployed, emerging and future communications systems dedicated to digital data communications between the aircraft and the ground, namely the data link. A study of two exhibitions that took place five years apart in the same building in Brussels city-centreFull House explores two exhibitions that took place five years apart in the same building in Brussels and featured over 300 contemporary art works from the renowned collection of Frédéric de Goldschmidt. The first show, Not Really Really, was organized in 2016 in a building that had only been vacated a few months before by a mental health clinic. The works were mostly sculptures made with everyday objects and played with the ambiguity of what the last occupants could have left and what the artists purposefully created. The building then underwent a long renovation, with photos included illustrating this process. The second show, Inaspettatamente (Unexpectedly), then engaged with themes such as order and disorder, time, classification, the artist’s process or his/her position in world conflicts using the prism of the famous Arte Povera artist Alighiero Boetti. This book provides a selection of papers of the late Daniel Amit (1938-2007). Daniel Amit was a physicist who spent the last 22 years of his life working on neural network models. He was one of the pioneers in the field. The volume contains 21 papers, from the highly influential 1985 paper on the Hopfield model (published together with Hanoch Gutfreund and Haim Sompolinsky), to his last (unpublished) manuscript. Many of these papers are landmark papers in the field. The book also provides a biography; an introduction on Daniel Amit's scientific career before the Hopfield model; and introductions to each of the included papers, written by their co-authors. This book will be of interest to physicists, computational neuroscientists and neurobiologists.
