Royal Society of Chemistry Energy Materials Discovery: Enabling a Sustainable Future
Materials have the potential to be the centrepiece for the transition to viable renewable energy technologies if they realise a specific suite of properties and achieve a desired set of performance metrics. The envisioned transition involves the discovery of materials that enable generation, conversion, storage, transmission, and utilization of renewable energy. This book presents, through the eye of materials chemistry, an umbrella view of the myriad of classes of materials that make renewable energy technologies work. They are poised to facilitate the transition of non-renewable and unsustainable energy systems of the past into renewable and sustainable energy systems of the future. It is a story that often begins in chemistry laboratories with the discovery of new energy materials. Yet, to displace materials in existing energy technologies with new ones, depends not only on the ability to design and engineer a superior set of performance metrics for the material and the technology but also the requirement to meet a demanding collection of economic, regulatory, social, policy, environmental and sustainability criteria. Disruption in the traditional way of discovering materials is coming with the emergence of artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotic automation designed to accelerate the well-established discovery process, massive libraries of materials can be evaluated and the possibilities are endless. This book provides a perspective on the application of these new technologies to this field as well as an overview of energy materials discovery in the broader techno-economic and social context. Any budding researcher or more experienced materials scientist will find a guide to a fascinating story of discovery and emerge with a vision of what is next.

Little, Brown & Company The Popper Penguin Rescue
It's been years and years since the Popper family lived in Stillwater, but the town is still riding high on its former residents. Across the river, Nina and Joel Popper have just moved to Hillport with their mother, into a house she got cheaply at auction after the "Penguin Pavilion" closed overnight. There's a lot to do: unpacking, scrubbing the floors, investigating the basement, which used to be the penguin exhibit -- wait, what's this?! It's two eggs, tucked snugly near the furnace. Penguin eggs! They must have been left behind in the hasty departure. Nina and Joel come up with a plan. They'll send a message to the caretaker of Popper Island, asking him to come pick up the chicks. But when they go to the port to send the message, the caretaker gives no response. In fact, the seafarer's office tells them, they haven't heard from the caretaker in months.Setting off on the adventure of a lifetime, Nina and Joel endure perilous storms, a long journey to the South Pole, and penguins. Lots and lots of penguins.

Cranthorpe Millner Publishers The Poison Balance: When the rains fell, the world burned...
'When the rains fell, the world burned...' After a childhood spent in the foster care system, failed PhD student Amy Weston attracts trouble wherever she goes. Acid rain is destroying London's trees, brain lesions are turning once-harmless pets into killer dogs, and her new work colleague, Professor Joel Harket, is the most infuriating man she has ever met. But when the media continue to insist that autumn has simply come early, and humans begin to experience the same symptoms as the killer dogs, Amy must work alongside Joel in order to convince the world of the seriousness of the situation, before it is too late. From the UN Air Health summit in Beijing to the abandoned tunnels beneath the city of London, Amy and Joel search for answers to prevent the end of the world, and as Nelson's Column crumbles and zombie-like 'howlers' wreak havoc worldwide, they discover that the only way to survive the apocalypse is to set aside their differences... and learn to trust each other.

Grundgedanken in besonders charakteristischer Weise hervor.
