Later raakt de kartuizerorde ook in Amsterdam over haar hoogtepunt heen, en wanneer rond 1520 de Reformatie deze streken bereikt, heeft het klooster het grootste deel van zijn aantrekkingskracht op de bevolking verloren. Desondanks blijft het kartuizerklooster bestaan, tot het einde wordt ingeluid met plunderingen in de jaren zestig van de zestiende eeuw. Aan het hieropvolgende kwijnende bestaan maakt de Alteratie van 1578 een eind. Er is geen bron uit het kloosterarchief die dergelijke evoluties beter in kaart helpt te brengen dan het manuscript dat in de onderzoeksliteratuur de titel Liber benefactorum heeft gekregen. Dit middeleeuwse ‘weldoenersboek’, vandaag bewaard in het Stadsarchief van Amsterdam, wordt in deze publicatie uitgegeven. The author publishes 157 tax receipts and other texts from Thebes in Early Ptolemaic Egypt (332-200 BC), including 102 Demotic texts and 55 Greek or bilingual texts. 113 texts are published here for the first time, and the others were previously only partially published or have been substantially reread. The first six chapters contain text editions organized by tax category. Short essays introduce each category, and in several cases reinterpret them. The text editions include facsimile drawings together with transliterations and translations. Photographs are appended for all but 21 of the texts that are known only from facsimiles. The seventh chapter summarizes the careers of the scribes and officials, including attestations outside tax receipts, and distinguishes two different career patterns. The eighth chapter discusses the taxpayers known from multiple tax receipts, and how modern collectors acquired and dispersed these ancient archives. Full indexes complete the volume.

The doctrine of the pactum salutis (covenant of redemption) offers the idea of a covenant between the very persons of the Trinity for the redemption of humanity. The doctrine received most of its attention in seventeenth-century Reformed theology, and has been criticized and almost totally forgotten in dogmatics since the eighteenth century. Most recent Reformed dogmatics tend to ignore the doctrine or disparage it from biblical, trinitarian, christological, pneumatological, and soteriological perspectives-namely, the doctrine lacks scriptural basis; it is tritheistic; it leads to subordination of the Son; it omits the role of the Holy Spirit; and it applies a deterministic idea for the Christian life. The theologies of Witsius, Owen, Dickson, Goodwin, and Cocceius portray a very robust form of the doctrine. Witsius argues with the help of a peculiar methodology of cross-referencing and collation of related scriptural texts that the doctrine is firmly based on biblical exegesis that was passed on from the patristic era. The doctrine formulated by Owen endorses the doctrines of inseparable operations and terminus operationis so as to give deep insight into the Trinity. In Dickson's doctrine, the Son's voluntary consent and obedience to the will of the Father are highly emphasized. Likewise, Goodwin's depiction of the Holy Spirit secures the divinity of the Spirit as well as his indispensable role for the transaction and accomplishment of the pactum. The doctrine in the theology of Cocceius sheds much light on the vibrant dynamic of the Christian life in accordance with the ordo salutis. The doctrine of the pactum salutis of the five Reformed theologians clearly shows that the doctrine is both promised and promising for theology and the life of faith.

Between 1995 and 2005, the government of Alberta undertook major reforms to the way water is governed in the arid southern part of the province. Among the most significant reforms was the imposition of moratoria on new water licenses, the introduction of a market for buying and selling existing water licenses, and the adoption of a "conservation holdback" mechanism for returning some licensed water to the environment. In Water Policy Reform in Southern Alberta, B. Timothy Heinmiller looks at how and why these (and other) reforms were adopted after nearly a century of stasis on water policy. The study analyses over three decades of policy decisions, beginning with the Progressive Conservative victory in 1972 to the last major policy reform in 2007. Applying the Advocacy Coalition Framework, process tracing methodologies, and content analysis, the author isolates, identifies and reconstructs the actors and processes that shaped over thirty years of water policy in Alberta.
