Filament Publishing Ltd Navigating Success
“Navigating Success” (published by Authoritize) has been written with entrepreneurs in mind. “The book is utterly practical“ she says. “I built a million-pound business from scratch and experience has taught me that anyone who possesses the right qualities and adopts a ‘wealth mindset’ can succeed.” As a family therapist, psychologist, and author, Natalia Kobylkina has gained international fame. Throughout her career, she has helped people from over 150 countries. This won her the award “Most Influential Person on Social Media for 2018.” Now in living in London, Natalia has recognised that there is a huge need to help women reflect on their current attitudes towards money, eliminate beliefs and behaviours that no longer serve their financial success. It might be that money is not the real problem, but our attitude towards it.

University of California Press A Place at the Nayarit: How a Mexican Restaurant Nourished a Community
Latinx Files 2022 Best Books, Los Angeles Times L.A. Taco’s 2022 Best Books 2022 Porchlight Business Book Awards Longlist2023 PROSE Award North American & US History Finalist, Association of American University PressesMacArthur Genius Natalia Molina unveils the hidden history of the Nayarit, a restaurant in Los Angeles that nourished its community of Mexican immigrants with a sense of belonging. In 1951, Doña Natalia Barraza opened the Nayarit, a Mexican restaurant in Echo Park, Los Angeles. With A Place at the Nayarit, historian Natalia Molina traces the life’s work of her grandmother, remembered by all who knew her as Doña Natalia––a generous, reserved, and extraordinarily capable woman. Doña Natalia immigrated alone from Mexico to L.A., adopted two children, and ran a successful business. She also sponsored, housed, and employed dozens of other immigrants, encouraging them to lay claim to a city long characterized by anti-Latinx racism. Together, the employees and customers of the Nayarit maintained ties to their old homes while providing one another safety and support. The Nayarit was much more than a popular eating spot: it was an urban anchor for a robust community, a gathering space where ethnic Mexican workers and customers connected with their patria chica (their “small country”). That meant connecting with distinctive tastes, with one another, and with the city they now called home. Through deep research and vivid storytelling, Molina follows restaurant workers from the kitchen and the front of the house across borders and through the decades. These people's stories illuminate the many facets of the immigrant experience: immigrants' complex networks of family and community and the small but essential pleasures of daily life, as well as cross-currents of gender and sexuality and pressures of racism and segregation. The Nayarit was a local landmark, popular with both Hollywood stars and restaurant workers from across the city and beloved for its fresh, traditionally prepared Mexican food. But as Molina argues, it was also, and most importantly, a place where ethnic Mexicans and other Latinx L.A. residents could step into the fullness of their lives, nourishing themselves and one another. A Place at the Nayarit is a stirring exploration of how racialized minorities create a sense of belonging. It will resonate with anyone who has felt like an outsider and had a special place where they felt like an insider.

Amazon Publishing Everyone Knows You Go Home
From the acclaimed author of Chasing the Sun comes a new novel about immigration and the depths to which one Mexican American family will go for forgiveness and redemption. The first time Isabel meets her father-in-law, Omar, he’s already dead—an apparition appearing uninvited on her wedding day. Her husband, Martin, still unforgiving for having been abandoned by his father years ago, confesses that he never knew the old man had died. So Omar asks Isabel for the impossible: persuade Omar’s family—especially his wife, Elda—to let him redeem himself. Isabel and Martin settle into married life in a Texas border town, and Omar returns each year on the celebratory Day of the Dead. Every year Isabel listens, but to the aggrieved Martin and Elda, Omar’s spirit remains invisible. Through his visits, Isabel gains insight into not just the truth about his disappearance and her husband’s childhood but also the ways grief can eat away at love. When Martin’s teenage nephew crosses the Mexican border and takes refuge in Isabel and Martin’s home, questions about past and future homes, borders, and belonging arise that may finally lead to forgiveness—and alter all their lives forever.

Emerald Publishing Limited The Future of the Self: Understanding Personalization in Childhood and Beyond
In a time of automated personalized ads, artificially intelligent social robots, and smart devices in the homes of millions, it has become critically important to understand the impact of our digitized selves - especially upon our younger generations. When children as young as three can take their own selfies, and customise their own avatars, how should we respond to the opportunity and threat of digital personalization for young children? Tracing thematic links between trends that are often addressed separately, and drawing on multidisciplinary research evidence, Kucirkova offers a comprehensive account of the effects of digitally-mediated personalization on children’s development of 'self'. Looking to the future, she provides a balanced account of the positives and negatives of personalisation against the backdrop of broader societal trends, such as globalisation/localisation, (de)centralisation of services and communication. Providing critical thinking tools, Kucirkova challenges us to understand the profound implications that the personal data economy and network-based technologies might have played in our own understanding of ourselves and each other.

University of Texas Press Inventing Indigenism: Francisco Laso's Image of Modern Peru
2023 ALAA Book Award, Association for Latin American Art/Arvey Foundation A fascinating account of the modern reinvention of the image of the Indian in nineteenth-century literature and visual culture, seen through the work of Peruvian painter Francisco Laso. One of the outstanding painters of the nineteenth century, Francisco Laso (1823–1869) set out to give visual form to modern Peru. His solemn and still paintings of indigenous subjects were part of a larger project, spurred by writers and intellectuals actively crafting a nation in the aftermath of independence from Spain. In this book, at once an innovative account of modern indigenism and the first major monograph on Laso, Natalia Majluf explores the rise of the image of the Indian in literature and visual culture. Reading Laso’s works through a broad range of sources, Majluf traces a decisive break in a long history of representations of indigenous peoples that began with the Spanish conquest. She ties this transformation to the modern concept of culture, which redefined both the artistic field and the notion of indigeneity. As an abstraction produced through indigenist discourse, an icon of authenticity, and a densely racialized cultural construct, the Indian would emerge as a central symbol of modern Andean nationalisms. Inventing Indigenism brings the work and influence of this extraordinary painter to the forefront as it offers a broad perspective on the dynamics of art and visual culture in nineteenth-century Latin America.

Peter Lang AG Development of Teaching Academics in the Academic Labor Market in Germany
This study is an empirical and a theoretical contribution to academic labor market research in the social and educational sciences. The main focus is the situation of young academics who teach at German universities. Both the role of research and teaching in the academic labor market as well as opportunities for professional development in academia and beyond for those who teach are investigated. The study reveals how structures of the academic labor market, including academic culture, affect career decisions and development opportunities of young academics. The findings demonstrate how academics reconstruct the relation between teaching and research in their practice and how they seek new ways in making teaching meaningful in their working lives. The monograph proposes a model for evaluating the agency of academics and identifies the potential for social innovations in academia.

GMC Publications Biographic: Picasso: Great Lives in Graphic Form
Many people know that Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker and poet, a pioneer of Modernism and Cubism whose works include `Les Demoiselles D’Avignon’. What, perhaps, they don’t know is that his full name is 23 words long; that he painted 15 different versions of `Les Femmes D’Algers’, one of which sold in 2015 for $179 million; that doctors thought he was stillborn until his uncle blew cigar smoke into his face; and that he was interviewed by police over the theft of the `Mona Lisa’. Biographic: Picasso presents a modern study of his life and work, with an array of irresistible facts and figures converted into infographics to reveal the artist behind the pictures.
