Manchester University Press New Slaveries in Contemporary British Literature and Visual Arts: The Ghost and the Camp
The book is a study of the literature and visual arts concerned with the many and diverse forms of slaveries produced by globalisation in Britain since the early 1990s.Starting from the sociological and political analyses of the issue, it combines postcolonial and Holocaust studies in a twin perspective based on the recurrent images of the ghost and the concentration camp, whose manifold shapes populate today's Britain. It focuses on a wide range of works: novelists and crime writers (Chris Abani, Chris Cleave, Marina Lewycka, Ian Rankin, Ruth Rendell), film directors (Nick Broomfield), photographers (Dana Popa), playwrights (Clare Bayley, Cora Bissett and Stef Smith, Abi Morgan, Lucy Kirkwood) and dystopian artists such as Alfonso Cuarón, P. D. James and Salman Rushdie. It is aimed at both students and scholars in English, postcolonial, Holocaust, globalisation and slavery studies: applied to new slaveries, all these fields are invested with new, contemporary significance.

John Wiley & Sons Inc Fixed Income Securities: Valuation, Risk, and Risk Management
The deep understanding of the forces that affect the valuation, risk and return of fixed income securities and their derivatives has never been so important. As the world of fixed income securities becomes more complex, anybody who studies fixed income securities must be exposed more directly to this complexity. This book provides a thorough discussion of these complex securities, the forces affecting their prices, their risks, and of the appropriate risk management practices. Fixed Income Securities, however, provides a methodology, and not a "shopping list" of all the possible interest rate securities ever been invented. It provides instead examples and methodologies that can be applied quite universally, once the basic concepts have been understood.

The Lario Rock Pareti is the definitive guidebook that covers the long multi-pitch rock climbing routes around Lecco on the shore of Lake Como. The multi-pitch routes covered are either fully trad or a mixture of trad with some bolts and therefore have a more mountaineering aspect to them and are up to 600m long. In total 77 separate crags are described that are split into 10 major areas. These are Pareti del Lago - San Martino Medale - Grigne Meridionale - Valsassina - Campelli - Alpi Orobie Valsassinesi - Grigne Settentrionale - Resegone - Monte Berlinghera, - Triangolo Lariano. All the routes are shown on either colour photo-topos or colour topo-diagrams, along with a description. Each route also has a French technical grade, pitch length and an obligatory grade if some aid is used. At the start of each crag there is a detailed location map and access information.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Jacques Lacan and Cinema: Imaginary, Gaze, Formalisation
Psychoanalysis has always been based on the eclipse of the visual and on the primacy of speech. The work of Jacques Lacan though, is strangely full of references to the visual field, from the intervention on the mirror stage in the Forties to the elaboration of the object-gaze in the Sixties. As a consequence, a long tradition of film studies used Lacanian psychoanalysis in order to explain the influence of the subject of the unconscious on the cinematographic experience. What is less known is how the late Lacanian reflection on the topic of analytic formalization opened up a further dimension of the visual that goes beyond the subjective experience of vision: not in the direction of a mystical ineffable but rather toward a subtractive mathematisation of space, as in non-Euclidean geometries. In an exhaustive overview of the whole Lacanian theorization of the visual, counterpointed by a confrontation with several thinkers of cinema (Eisenstein, Straub-Huillet, Deleuze, Ranciere), the book will lead the reader toward the discovery of the most counterintuitive approaches of Lacanian psychoanalysis to the topic of vision. The outcome may have a major impact on the way we understand cinema and visual studies: sometimes abstract formalization can help us looking at the space surrounding us even better than our eyes.

Cornell University Press Euripides' Revolution under Cover: An Essay
In this provocative book, Pietro Pucci explores what he sees as Euripides’s revolutionary literary art. While scholars have long pointed to subversive elements in Euripides’s plays, Pucci goes a step further in identifying a Euripidean program of enlightened thought enacted through carefully wrought textual strategies. The driving force behind this program is Euripides’s desire to subvert the traditional anthropomorphic view of the Greek gods—a belief system that in his view strips human beings of their independence and ability to act wisely and justly. Instead of fatuous religious beliefs, Athenians need the wisdom and the strength to navigate the challenges and difficulties of life. Throughout his lifetime, Euripides found himself the target of intense criticism and ridicule. He was accused of promoting new ideas that were considered destructive. Like his contemporary, Socrates, he was considered a corrupting influence. No wonder, then, that Euripides had to carry out his revolution "under cover." Pucci lays out the various ways the playwright skillfully inserted his philosophical principles into the text through innovative strategies of plot development, language and composition, and production techniques that subverted the traditionally staged anthropomorphic gods.
