Texas Christian University Press,U.S. Jenny Browne: New and Selected Poems
In her introduction to Jenny Browne's New and Selected Poems, Naomi Shihab Nye writes, "The poems are switchboards of care extending in so many directions, beamed up to high, but always with the subtlety of idiosyncratic awareness"-it's fascinating to fathom how she gets from one place to another. A startle, a dazzle of impulses enlivening the spirit . . . " Browne's poems ask personal questions: How did we get here? Where are we going? Can we walk there together? From love letters to strangers to extended meditations on slow-moving rivers, these poems surprise in their fidelity to the strangeness of being alive. In the new poems included here, this heightened awareness is set against the landscape of a planet undergoing global climate change, quickly becoming inhospitable. Resisting the poles of paralysis and apocalypse, Browne travels through extreme and unfamiliar landscapes, considering the unthinkable, negotiating the past, and ultimately reimagining the future and our human place in it.

Trinity University Press,U.S. San Antonio in Color
San Antonio in Color contains ninety paintings of San Antonio landmarks, neighborhoods, and local attractions painted by Trinity alumnus Bill Thompson ('88). Thompson uses flamboyant colors to paint animated, evocative scenes that have a touch of van Gogh and a hint of Raoul Dufy. Thompson works in a bold mixed-media style that incorporates watercolor, pastels, acrylics, and oil paint sticks. The book will contain paintings of popular tourist sites-the Missions, the River Walk, the Governor's Palace, and La Villita; San Antonio views that are slightly off the beaten track-a Southtown ice house, trail riders to the Stock Show and Rodeo, a West Side tacqueria, and the Liberty Bar; and cultural institutions-Trinity's tower, the Witte Museum, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, the Carver Community Cultural Center, the McNay Art Museum, and the San Antonio Museum of Art. These places are just a sampling to indicate the range of views shown. Accompanying the paintings will be pithy quotes from notable, colorful, and celebrated people, both visitors and residents, who have said something memorable about San Antonio. Passages will be drawn from all eras, with a concentration on the more contemporary. In addition, "San Antonio Highlights," by Jenny Browne, describe the sites pictured.
