Uitgeverij Kannibaal Elvis and Presley
In 1999, photographers Robert Huber and Stephan Vanfleteren travelled through the US in the wake of their hero, Elvis Presley. Elvis (Huber) and Presley (Vanfleteren) invite you to share their journey across the American landscape, from Times Square to Death Valley. Decked out in glittering jumpsuits and big hair, this is the story of two European photojournalists who travelled across eleven states taking pictures of each other, Stephan Vanfleteren using black and white film, Robert Huber, colour. This is the ultimate pop idol on a tour of America, interacting with the people, the places, the history, the cool glances, the warm embraces, the hot coffee and the cheap motels that define modern life. AUTHOR: Robert Huber is a Swiss photographer. He studied at the CEPV (Centre d'Enseignement Professionel de Vevey) in Switzerland (1991-1995). Two years later he moved to New York to work as an editorial photographer. From 2004 until 2006 he lived in Istanbul to pursue his career, and worked for several European and American magazines. Uitgeverij Kannibaal Surf Tribe
With Surf Tribe, photographer Stephan Vanfleteren shows that there is far more to surf culture than just sport and competition. Surfing is also about a deep admiration and respect for the ocean, as well as the feeling of insignificance when confronted with the forces of nature. Surfers use the waves for fun, but also to forget and to battle, both with others and with themselves. Vanfleteren looks beyond the traditional borders of the United States and Australia and searches the globe for people who live in places where sea and land meet. He documents a fluid community, with nature as its sole leader. He has sought out young talent, living icons, and old legends, both competitive and free surfers. The photographs here are serene black and white portraits in Vanfleteren's well-known, haunting style; as always, he reaches below the surface and goes to the core of his subjects. Included, amongst many others, are Kelly Slater, Gerry Lopez, John Florence, Mickey Munoz, Filipe Toledo and Stephanie Gilmore. Surfer, journalist, and actor Gerry Lopez has contributed the Foreword.

Uitgeverij Kannibaal Stief Desmet
Stief Desmet (1973) is one of the new names in the Belgian art world. His unusual painting technique sets him apart from the many followers of artists such as Luc Tuymans and Michael Borremans. He has developed his own visual language and his own alphabet, in which he draws on all the resources available to him. Painting is just one of the disciplines he practices; he also creates installations and sculptures, and is renowned for his videos. Desmet questions his own position as a contemporary artist alongside the "golden river" landscape painters (Leieschilders) from his youth, who immortalised the landscape in their pastoral works. Typical characteristics of his work include its escapist nature, in which the artist withdraws into nature, and the humour that is evident in many of his works. Stief Desmet (1973) lives and works in Belgium. He studied at the Royal academy for fine arts (1991-1995) and at the Sint Lucas institute for arts and science (1994-1996) in Gent. In 2005 he was the laureate of the Provincial Price for Visual Arts of East-Flanders. He already exhibited his works in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and the US. Uitgeverij Kannibaal Call for Justice: Art and Law in the Low Countries (1450-1650)
Call for Justice highlights the rich and fascinating interaction between art, the practice of law and the idea of justice in the territories governed by the Great Council of Mechelen when at the height of its powers. Works of art from the Burgundian Low Countries dating from the mid-fifteenth to mid-seventeenth century are situated within the turbulent legal, political and cultural context in which they were created: the unification of the Netherlands, the increasingly absolutist administration of Emperor Charles V, the Reformation and the uprising against Spain. Call for Justice reveals how these artworks make visible, and in a powerful way, one of the most universal of all human desires: the pursuit of justice. Including prestigious masterpieces by, amongst others, Quinten Matsys, Maarten van Heemskerck, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Maarten de Vos, Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and Philippe de Champaigne.

Uitgeverij Kannibaal Conversation Pieces: The World of Bruegel
In 2019, it will be 450 years since the death of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1526/28-1569). To mark this anniversary, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna is organising the first ever retrospective of Bruegel's work, while The World of Bruegel will be shown in the Bokrijk Open-Air Museum. The two institutions are joining forces to bring Bruegel's masterpiece The Fight Between Carnival and Lent (1559) to life. An important key in this respect are the numerous everyday objects that are depicted in the painting. In collaboration with the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam) and the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam), the props that Bruegel depicted have been examined and interpreted from a contemporary perspective. The authors allow the objects to speak for themselves, preceded by an introductory essay by curator Sabine Penot of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Just as Bruegel's paintings were 'conversation pieces' in their day, intended to trigger a discussion between guests during dinners, this book presents a three-way conversation about The Fight Between Carnival and Lent through Bruegel realia, in which art history (Katrien Lichtert), historical design (Alexandra van Dongen and Lucinda Timmermans) and literature (Abdelkader Benali) enter into a dialogue. In A Conversation Piece, the authors reveal the humour, symbolism, imagery and hidden stories behind the everyday objects in the painting. The exhibition Pieter Bruegel the Elder will run from 2 October 2018 to 13 January 2019 in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, and the exhibition The World of Bruegel will be on display in the Bokrijk Open-Air Museum from 6 April to 20 October 2019.
