Peter Lang AG Rural Poverty Determinants in the Remote Rural Areas of Kyrgyzstan: A Production Efficiency Impact on the Poverty Level of a Rural Household
This book is a study about rural poverty in the remote rural area of Kyrgyzstan. It analyses the linkage of poverty with the limits of production frontier efficiency of the rural households in the selected area. A field survey of the cross-section random sample collects primary information about 297 rural households. This allows to measure rural poverty and frontier production efficiency of a sample, using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) methods. The empirical results demonstrate statistical significance of the poverty-efficiency linkage in the case of simple and multivariate linear regression. The endogeneity problem is resolved with the proposed instrumental variables, not correlating with the wealth of the household, but affecting the technical efficiency.

ISTE Ltd and John Wiley & Sons Inc Measurement in Marketing: Operationalization of Latent Constructs
Scientific research uses concepts (or constructs) and requires means to measure them. Often latent, abstract and not directly observable, these concepts demand special attention. When facing problems related to their operationalization, considerable efforts are required to construe measures that effectively represent the phenomena studied. Measurement in Marketing presents a wide range of ideas to help researchers in the selection, design and validation of measurements of constructs. It analyzes the provisions that must be implemented to allow the transition from a latent conceptual construct to an operational level close to reality, and thus to make possible a fluid, reliable and valid reading of the phenomena observed. This instructive book guides readers through all stages of the implementation of a measure. It is intended for a wide audience, offering examples, summary tables and boxes in order to emphasize the primary information.

De Gruyter Technoscientific Research
Unlike the bulk majority of publications on philosophy of science and research ethics, which are authored by professional philosophers and intended for philosophers, this book has been written by a research practitioner and intended for research practitioners. It is distinctive by its integrative approach to methodological and ethical issues related to research practice, with special emphasis of mathematical modelling and measurement, as well as by attempted application of engineering design methodology to moral decision making. It is also distinctive by more than 200 real-world examples drawn from various domains of science and technology. It is neither a philosophical treaty nor a quick-reference guide. It is intended to encourage young researchers, especially Ph.D. students, to deeper philosophical reflection over research practice. They are not expected to have any philosophical background, but encouraged to consult indicated sources of primary information and academic textbooks co

Pearson Education Limited Strategic Marketing: Cases, Concepts and Challenges
This book is designed to help both students and the general reader gain a practical understanding of the strategic marketing process, and how it can be applied to a variety of real-life organisational and national environments. As a case book it encourages readers to develop a 'strategic mindset' towards the development of marketing programmes. The cases are based upon primary information and many are complemented by financial data, thus allowing readers to become 'insiders' rather than observers. Cases are supported by sections on relevant theory and specific learning notes. Part one introduces and reviews relevant strategic marketing concepts and practices. Introductory chapters explore the strategy/marketing interface, the conventional strategic marketing process and some contemporary challenges to established practices. Part two gives readers the chance to apply strategic marketing principles to a variety of situations, and information is introduced to emphasise the urgency of the situation, whilst the reality of the fiancial data serves to constrain the submission of unrealistic marketing programmes. Strategic Marketing: Cases, Concepts and Challenges is essential reading for students and practitioners who wish to bridge strategic marketing theory and practice in the wider organisational context. The text is suitable for students of marketing and strategy at undergraduate, professional and masters levels.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Georg Jensen: 20th Century Designs
This reprint of jewelry and hollowware catalog pages from Georg Jensen brings eagerly sought information together in one volume. Hard to find, the original catalogs have been widely dispursed and costly, yet they provide primary information to enable identification of thousands of pieces found on the vintage market today. The jewelry section presents women's and men's gold and silver designs, including those sold at the retail store in New York that represented a selection of American-made items, and those made during the 1940s which were difficult to identify previously. The enormous section on hollowware displays hundreds of designs from the late 1950s and early 1960s. During this period Georg Jensen designers expanded their range of tea sets, pitchers, bowls, etc. to include very popular modern forms based on Scandinavian design principles. These designs have remained among the most cherished Jensen forms. The catalog descriptions include the product numbers, original retail prices from the mid-century era, measurements, and designers. A special information list identifies forty-three Georg Jensen designs in museum collections around the world. This easy-to-use volume will become a standard reference for all the collectors, dealers, auction houses, and individuals who own and are inspired by Georg Jensen designs.

Texas A & M University Press Until They Are Home: Bringing Back the MIAs from Vietnam, a Personal Memoir
'Our mission continues . . . Until They Are Home!' - Motto of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting CommandAt the end of the Vietnam War - or American War, as it is called in Hanoi - 2,585 Americans were unaccounted for in Southeast Asia. In 1992, a joint task force was established to continue the work of recovery, and its members became the first U.S. government representatives to return full-time to Vietnam. Army Lt. Col. Thomas ('Ty') Smith arrived in Hanoi a decade later, in 2003. Until They Are Home is both a heartfelt memoir and a fascinating inside look at his tour of duty in Vietnam, 'a place of shadows within shadows, secrets within secrets." Smith takes the reader on an extraordinary personal voyage from the shaded French boulevards of Hanoi to the remotest jungle trails of the border highlands. Written with a keen eye andtouches of humor, Until They Are Home recounts life in the very heart of the mission to find and return to the families the remains of their loved ones. It offers equal parts historical context, political insight, social commentary, travelogue, and adventure chronicle. From describingeverything from his diplomatic negotationsbetweenthe Vietnamese andAmerican governments to presentinghis view of commanding a remarkably complex mission in an unforgiving environment, Smith draws on memory, e-mails, letters, and journal entries to recreate the story of his mission in Vietnam. Smith and the forces serving under him found the remains of fourteenlost American servicemen - including two graduates of Texas A&M University. The gripping, intensely personalnarrative of Until They Are Home will fascinate general readers interested in the Vietnam War and its aftermath and will prove helpful to historians seeking primary information. It will also have great appeal to those with continuing involvement in POW/MIA issues and concerns.
