Museum Tusculanum Press Johan Nicolai Madvigs dannelsestanker: En kritisk humanist i den danske romantik
Johan Nicolai Madvigs dannelsestanker: en kritisk humanist i den danske romantik (Johan Nicolai Madvig's Thoughts on Cultural Education: A Critical Humanist in Danish Romanticism) encircles the notion of education which has influenced the self-perception of the Danish elite up to the present day. Madvig (1804-1886) has occupied a special position in Danish educational tradition since he in the 1830s formulated an independent suggestion for a cultural education, which proved extremely influential in the development of the learned school in the second half of the 19th century.

Museum Tusculanum Press Impulser: i Københavns koncertrepertoire 1900-1935

Transcendental history denotes a possible philosophical discipline on a par with transcendental logic. Through two mutually complementary endeavours, namely the working out of a notion and the defending of a thesis, Gosvig Olesen examines the history of philosophy in areas where the possibility of the transcendental history will emerge. The notion that is worked out is the notion of historical time. The thesis that is being defended is that the human cognition's transcendental condition is history. Notion as well as thesis place the dissertation in the philosophical genre traditionally known as transcendental philosophy.

Norwegian medieval Latin literature was in its prime in the latter half of the 12th century. A number of Latin works on Norwegian history came into existence. In this interdisciplinary collection of articles, there is a presentation of these works and their backgrounds, and the correlation between the Latin and the Norse tradition is examined. Of central importance in the book is the cult of Olav the Saint whose seat was the cathedral in Trondheim (Nidaros). The development of the Legend of St. Olav and the collection of miracles belonging to it are discussed by specialists of various professions from different points of view -- liturgical, religious historical, sociological, philological and literary.

In many Mediterranean countries we observe newcomers to the political arena: new forms of social networking, growing opposition, and protest articulated by local communities or locally active social movements. In this special issue we present fresh research on localized practices of resistance by protest groups, solidarity initiatives, and cultural projects, which have arisen in the wake of the 2008 crisis. Based on ethnological fieldwork, the volume offers insights into the media-based protest against the commodification of the historic Marseille district Panier (Philip Cartelli); urban gardening in Ljubljana as a practice opposing the growing neoliberal market economy (Saa Poljak Istenič); and the movement Genuino Clandestino, a solidarity network of small-scale farmers in Italy (Alexander Koensler). Three case studies deal with social movement in Greece: a solidarity network in Volos, where citizens developed an alternative exchange and trading system (Andreas Streinzer); grassroots mobilizations as resistant practices in the inner urban neighbourhood of Exarchia in Athens (Monia Cappuccini); and finally rural solidarity networks on the Peloponnese peninsula (James Verinis). A comparative discussion of Mediterranean protest movements (Jutta Lauth Bacas and Marion Näser-Lather) identifies underlying common features in these clearly different, yet relatable practices of protest: among others, the major role of face-to-face interaction and mutual trust.

Museum Tusculanum Press Ethnologia Europaea 46:1: Special Issue: Muslim Intimacies
In every society, individual choice and freedom are shaped at least to some degree by the needs of familial and marital institutions. Currently, negotiations between individuals and families are undergoing transformations due to late modern processes such as recent waves of mass migration, the increasing transnationalism of everyday practices, global commerce in ideas and images, and the expansion of information technology into all corners of peoples lives. Some of the greatest challenges are experienced by Muslim families; the majority of the worlds Muslims live in extreme poverty, and in Europe, anti-Muslim sentiment has found a firm foothold in public attitudes and debates. This special issue explores the dilemmas facing transnational Muslim families as well as those who feel the impact of late modern transformations in societies where they have lived for generations. Five scholarly articles address family dynamics among Muslims in Finland (Anne Häkkinen), Ethiopia (Outi Fingerroos), Italy and Sweden (Pia Karlsson Minganti), Morocco (Raquel Gil Carvalheira), and Tanzania (Laura Stark); these are complemented by the insightful commentary by Garbi Schmidt. The aim of this theme issue is to develop new ways of talking about the links between Islam, family and the individual, which move away from the ethnocentrism of Western concepts and pay greater attention to the desires and goals of those studied. This volume includes two open issue contributions: Magdalena Elchinova scrutinizes identity construction among Orthodox Bulgarians based in Istanbul, and in the context of the post- Fordist creative city Ove Sutter analyses the playful and performative protests of activists following the declaration of the so-called Danger Zone 2014 in Hamburg, Germany.
