Eddy Kamuanga s large-scale figurative paintings display a wealth of historical understanding in a sophisticated interplay of strikingly coloured forms juxtaposed on grey negative space. Kamuanga s work taps into the rich, yet complex colonial history of the Democratic Republic of Congo, (DRC). His politically nuanced and culturally sensitive work explores the seismic shifts in economic, political and cultural identity in the DRC since colonization. Increasingly globalized in outlook, many in the DRC today are rejecting their ancestral heritage in favour of modernity, a conflict that fuels Kamuanga s work. The DRC is the world s largest exporter of coltan, a mineral critical to the production of computer chips and mobile phones. In all Kamuanga s works, the skin of each figure is embedded with integrated circuits, referring to the harsh conditions experienced by workers who mine coltan by hand. Eddy Kamuanga has been recognized internationally as one of the most interesting, young, contemporary African talents of today and his reputation is fast growing worldwide. His most significant projects have been photographed specifically for the book, including constructions and installations in public spaces, such as museums, shops and offices. Located centrally in Hong Kong, this is the largest below ground station in the world. The high-speed rail terminus station will connect Hong Kong to Beijing with the largest rail network in history, expected to strengthen the city s strategic position as the southern gateway of China. West Kowloon Station enjoys a spectacular location with a panoramic view of the Hong Kong skyline, but when Bromberg s team entered the competition to design it, they encountered a problem the station is mostly 100 feet belowground. His solution was to ensure the station was civic-minded and to create a large volume capped by a shell-like dome that rises from the earth, capturing daylight and sending it deep underground. Even as they stand on the subterranean concourse, passengers can catch a glimpse of Victoria Peak and the city s tallest buildings. In order to keep the space open and airy, Bromberg minimized the number of columns needed to support the vast atrium. His team devised a system that branches out, giving the organic appearance that complements the sweep of the station roof. This book contains never-before-seen sketches, models, renderings, drawings, and all-new photography of the building as well as an interview with the architect.

Asylum is an international project that arose from a collaboration between five associations around the world and photographer Umberto Nicola Nicoletti. Through the use of beautiful 'glossy images, such as those used in fashion and advertising, the project seeks to engender empathy for the subjects involved and their stories. Asylum seekers become celebrities, idols, and heroes as they are. Therefore, it is not photographic reportage but, rather, an art project focused on restoring their dignity. LGBTIQ+ refugees often face double discrimination: in their home country and in their destination, as they are both immigrants and LGBTIQ+. This is especially true in refugee camps, where they are subject to assaults by other migrants. The aim of this project is to give these individuals the identity they are often deprived of when they are reduced to an indistinct mass and to show the world their true beauty.
