‘Profane, funny, and uncomfortably honest' – Brandon Taylor, author of Real Life Twenty-year-old Lilja is in love.He is older and beautiful, a Derrida-quoting intellectual. He is also a serial cheater, gaslighter and narcissist.Lilja will do anything to hold on to him.And so she accepts his deceptions and endures his sexual desires. She rationalizes his toxic behaviour and permits him to cross all her boundaries. In her desperation to be the perfect lover, she finds herself unable to break free from the toxic cycle. And then an unexpected ultimatum: an all-consuming love, or the promise of a life reclaimed. Thora Hjörleifsdóttir explores the darkest corners of relationships, capturing an ugly, hidden nature of love. In an era of growing pornification, she deftly illustrates the failings of our culture in recognizing symptoms of cruelty. In visceral, poetic prose, translated from Icelandic by Meg Matich, Magma depicts the unspooling of a tender-hearted young woman aching to love and be loved.'Mesmerizing . . . Hjösleifsdóttir dives deep into the fire-rivers of lust, just how much humiliation we’re willing to tolerate in the name of love.' – Oprah Daily

Princeton University Press Mind over Magma: The Story of Igneous Petrology
Mind over Magma chronicles the scientific effort to unravel the mysteries of rocks that solidified on or beneath Earth's surface from the intensely hot, molten material called magma. The first-ever comprehensive history of the study of such igneous rocks, it traces the development of igneous petrology from ancient descriptions of volcanic eruptions to recent work incorporating insights from physical chemistry, isotope studies, and fluid dynamics. Intellectual developments in the field--from the application of scientific methods to the study of rocks to the discovery of critical data and the development of the field's major theories--are considered within their broader geographical, social, and technological contexts. Mind over Magma examines the spread of igneous petrology from western Europe to North America, South Africa, Japan, Australia, and much of the rest of the world. It considers the professionalization and Anglicization of the field, detailing changes in publication outlets, the role of women, and the influence of government funding. The book also highlights the significant role that technological developments--including the polarizing microscope, high-temperature quenching furnaces, and instrumental analysis--have played in the discovery of new data and development of revolutionary insights into the nature of igneous rocks. Both an engagingly told story and a major reference, Mind over Magma is the only available history of this important field. As such, it will be appreciated by petrologists, geochemists, and other geologists as well as by those interested in the history of science.

Oxford University Press Granites: Petrology, Structure, Geological Setting, and Metallogeny
Granites are emblematic rocks developed from a magma that crystallized in the Earth's crust. They ultimately outcrop at the surface of every continent. This book offers a modern presentation of granitic rocks. It considers granites in their geological spatial and temporal frame, and in relation to plate tectonics and Earth history. The book - translated, edited, and updated from the original French edition Pétrologie des Granites published by Vuibert in 2011 - gives a modern presentation of granitic rocks, or granites, from magma genesis to their emplacement into the crust and their crystallization. Mineralogical, petrological, physical, and economical aspects are explored and developed in a succession. The text is supported throughout by a large number of illustrations, descriptions of modern techniques, and additional boxes holding further discussions for those wishing to deepen their knowledge of the subject.

John Wiley & Sons Inc Crustal Magmatic System Evolution: Anatomy, Architecture, and Physico-Chemical Processes
A comprehensive picture of the architecture of crustal magmatic systems The composition of igneous rocks – their minerals, melts, and fluids – reveals the physical and chemical conditions under which magmas form, evolve, interact, and move from the Earth’s mantle through the crust. These magma dynamics affect processes on the surface including crustal growth and eruptive behaviour of volcanoes. Crustal Magmatic System Evolution: Anatomy, Architecture, and Physico-Chemical Processes uses analytical, experimental, and numerical approaches to explore the diversity of crustal processes from magma differentiation and assimilation to eruption at the surface. Volume highlights include: Physical and chemical parameterization of crustal magmatic systems Experimental, theoretical and modelling approaches targeting crustal magmatic processes Timescales of crustal magmatic processes, including storage, recharge, and ascent through volcanic conduits The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. John Wiley & Sons Inc The Early Earth: Accretion and Differentiation
The Early Earth: Accretion and Differentiation provides a multidisciplinary overview of the state of the art in understanding the formation and primordial evolution of the Earth. The fundamental structure of the Earth as we know it today was inherited from the initial conditions 4.56 billion years ago as a consequence of planetesimal accretion, large impacts among planetary objects, and planetary-scale differentiation. The evolution of the Earth from a molten ball of metal and magma to the tectonically active, dynamic, habitable planet that we know today is unique among the terrestrial planets, and understanding the earliest processes that led to Earth’s current state is the essence of this volume. Important results have emerged from a wide range of disciplines including cosmochemistry, geochemistry, experimental petrology, experimental and theoretical mineral physics and geodynamics. The topics in this volume include: Condensation of primitive objects in the solar nebula, planetary building blocks Early and late accretion and planetary dynamic modeling Primordial differentiation, core formation, Magma Ocean evolution and crystallization This volume will be a valuable resource for graduate students, academics, and researchers in the fields of geophysics, geochemistry, cosmochemistry, and planetary science.

Hatje Cantz Group Dynamics: Collectives of the Modernist Period
Buenos Aires, Casablanca, Beijing, Khartoum, Lahore, Tokyo: all over the world, artists joined forces in collectives throughout the twentieth century. While the tendency to form groups was (and still is) universal, the concerns of their members, their aesthetic methodologies, political goals, and utopian aspirations differed fundamentally depending on time and place. The period from about 1900 to 1980 covered here coincides with the beginning of diverse international modernization movements and finally includes decolonization processes and the founding of new nations. These events were often accompanied by the establishment of art schools and collectives as well as the publication of programmatic texts and journals. The project is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation in conjunction with its Museum Global initiative. The catalogue accompanying the first part of the exhibition, Group Dynamics – The Blue Rider, also published by Hatje Cantz Verlag, is already available. It offers a comprehensive survey of works and new insights into the circle of artists who made up Der Blaue Reiter. Texts by: Karin Althaus, Sergio Baur, Susanne Böller, Elisabeth Giers, Salah M. Hassan, Sarah Louisa Henn, Eva Huttenlauch, Samina Iqbal, Zehra Jumabhoy, Morad Montazami, Noriko Murai, Jaroslaw Suchan, Daniel Muzyczuk, Thiago Gil de Oliveira Virava, Iheanyi Onwuegbucha, Nadine Siegert, Aihe Wang, Stephanie Weber, Carol Yinghua Lu, et al.
