Naked Architecture Valerio Paolo Mosco An account of one of the most interesting phenomena of contemporary architecture: the return to the structure and methods with which contemporary constructions are realized. Over the last ten years architecture would seem to have rediscovered engineering. Now that the Postmodern period, in which the structure of buildings was camouflaged by coverings of every kind, has passed, architecture today seems to have undressed, almost as though wishing to show how it is made (and to render this spectacular). On the other hand, the rediscovery in recent years of plastic form has brought about a closer relationship between architects and engineers. In the wake of the phenomenon that is the work of Santiago Calatrava, figures of engineer-architects have emerged such as Cecil Balmond, Sasaki and Guy Nordenson, who have been able to give a strongly "engineering-oriented" guise to ever more complex building sites. To this we must add the rise of new issues, such as that of environmental engineering, which has changed from being a specifically technical sphere to one of many other realms of knowledge, not least the aesthetic. If, therefore, there is a phenomenon today that is able to hold together the various expressions of contemporary architecture, it is precisely this return to the structure and methods with which it is realized.

Forma Edizioni Giuseppe Terragni: His War, His End
Giuseppe Terragni, an influential proponent of modernism in Italian architecture and design in the 1920s and 1930s, translated the visual vocabulary of Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe into what became known as the Rationalist School of Architecture. This monograph covers his later years (he died in 1943), with a focus on the war and his devastating experience as a soldier. It includes some notable projects from the 1930s like the Casa del Fascio in Como, and the designs for an unrealised final project for a cathedral that he did in the days before his death. The book is illustrated with historical photographs and includes letters Terragni wrote from the front.

Forma Edizioni Green Energy Laboratory: Archea Associati
The Green Energy Laboratory (GEL) is a research centre for low environmental impact building technologies on the the Minhang Campus of Jiao Tong University in Shanghai. Created in collaboration between the university and the Italian Ministry for Environment, Land and Sea Protection, it was designed and built by the Florentine architectural firm Archea Associati in 2012. This book features critical essays, technical drawings, photos of the construction site and the completed project, and illustrates the harmony of this structure through its perfect blend of tradition, architectural ingenuity, and sustainability. The GEL building is based around a central courtyard with a retractable roof. The top, or third floor, is recessed in relation to the main block, with a steeply sloped roof to house solar panels. The outer shell of the building’s double skin is composed of terracotta elements designed to form pictograms common in the Chinese language. This landmark project represents a symbol of intercultural cooperation between Italy and China. Text in English and Italian.
