He began his horticultural career in commercial field vegetable production and plant breeding, and joined the RHS in 1990. He also worked for Gardening Which? as a horticultural journalist. In 1998, he took over the running of the RHS Gardening Advice Service, and has held his current position since 2016. He has authored and contributed to many DK books, including RHS Encyclopedia of Gardening (DK 2022), RHS How to Garden (DK 2016) and RHS Vegetable and Fruit Gardening (DK 2016).
