MACK The Artist's Books
While Francesca Woodman's photographic work has been widely celebrated, little has been published until now about her remarkable series of artist's books. The basis of these works is in books that Woodman bought in local shops and flea markets throughout her travels in Italy in the 1970s, which she later repurposed to provide intriguing backgrounds onto which she pasted her print , trans-parencies, and written annotations. Collected together for the first time, these books demonstrate a sophisticated relationship to narrative and sequence and offer a new understanding of the scope of Woodman's engagement with the book form. Francesca Woodman: The Artist's Books collects for the very first time every page of all eight of Francesca Woodman's unique art-ist's books in one comprehensive volume. It includes two newly discovered books which have never been seen before, alongside better-known titles such as Some Disordered Interior Geometries.

Silvana Francesca Woodmans
Francesca Woodman (1958-1981) - sensitive and troubled American photographer, considered one of the most intense artists in the 20th century - produced, during her short life, six artist''s books. They are refined and evocative objects, created from old school notebooks found in Rome, in which she transcribed in elegant and small handwriting various texts and poems, in French and in Italian, and on which she affixed a sequence of some of her photographs. A precious facsimile edition presents for the first time one of these notebooks, chosen by Francesca''s family for its beauty. Black and white images are covered, like in the original notebook, by a translucent film that makes the contrast with the notebook paper even more evocative.

Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Konig Francesca Woodman: On Being an Angel
The American photographer Francesca Woodman (1958–1981) created a body of fascinating photographic works in a few intense years before her premature death. Her oeuvre has been the object of numerous in-depth studies and major exhibitions in recent years, and her photographs have inspired artists all over the world. Woodman’s photographs explore gender, representation, sexuality and body. Her production includes several self-portraits, using herself and her friends as models. The figures are often placed behind furniture and other interior elements; occasionally, the images are blurred in such a way that their identity is hidden from the viewer. The intimate nature of the subject matter is enhanced by the small formats. Woodman worked in unusual settings such as derelict buildings, using mirrors and glass to evoke surrealist and occasionally claustrophobic moods. Moderna Museet will present some hundred photographs by Francesca Woodman, with a selection from the series and themes she explored. The exhibition is produced by Moderna Museet in association with Betty and George Woodman and the Estate of Francesca Woodman. Alongside this exhibition, Moderna Museet will present a compilation of photography from the same period from its collection, to show Francesca Woodman in context and expand the perspective on her oeuvre to the public.
