Scheidegger und Spiess AG, Verlag Peter Zumthor Talks About His Work: A Biographic Collage
Over the past thirty years, Swiss architect Peter Zumthor has expressed himself on numerous occasions and in a range of contexts about his work and his self-conception as an architect. Many of these statements have been recorded on film. Christoph Schaub, Swiss film director and internationally renowned author of documentaries on architects and architecture, has composed a biographic film collage from this rich legacy of interviews and conversations, lectures, and public talks. It spans Zumthor's entire career from early days in the 1980s until today, including conversations with Schaub recorded for this compilation. This portrait also introduces us to Zumthor as a persona that has changed over three decades, yet still remained much the same man. Authentic, abiding, and passionately he responds to questions about his positions. His statements reveal sensitivity and consistency; they demonstrate a person following his inner compass and ideals. Christoph Schaub has conceived this biographic collage in collaboration with Atelier Peter Zumthor to coincide with the exhibition Dear to Me, curated by Zumthor, at Kunsthaus Bregenz in autumn 2017. DVD has English subtitles.

Scheidegger und Spiess AG, Verlag Architecture of Infinity: A Film by Christoph Schaub
Temporality and age are inherent in every object and creature and, depending on one's outlook, may transcend to infinity. How can this be imagined? What goes beyond it? Swiss filmmaker Christoph Schaub sets out for a personal journey through time and space. He starts in his childhood, when his fascination with sacred buildings began, and also his wondering about beginnings and ends. In dialogue with architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and Alvaro Siza, artists James Turell and Cristina Iglesias, and musician Jojo Mayer, Schaub explores the magic of sacred spaces, a term that for him represents much more than just churches. Architecture of Infinity traces spirituality in architecture and fine arts as well as in nature, and even over and above the limits of thought. The lightly floating camera immerses the viewer in somnambulistic images, taking him on a sensual and sensing journey through vast spaces, guiding his eye towards the star-spangled sky's infinity and the depths of the ocean. Past and present, primeval times and light years, it is all there. The running time of the film is 85 minutes, and the DVD is accompanied by a 32-page booklet with text in English and German.

Scheidegger und Spiess AG, Verlag Il Girasole: A House Near Verona
On the slope of a gentle hill on the northern boundary of the Po basin in Northern Italy stands a remarkable house. A modernist villa in the middle of a park, with its metallic facade shining above an enormous circular base of reddish stone. The extraordinary structure of the Casa Girasole (The Sunflower) follows the way of the sun across the sky - and the inhabitants' vista over the surrounding landscape - during the day, driven by an electric motor that can turn the entire house by 360 . It was built in the early 1930s by the Italian architects Angelo Invernizzi and Ettore Fagiuoli and is an important example of Italian Futurismo in architecture. Preserved entirely in its original state, including the original furniture and curtains, it makes traceable the fascination for modern technology, but also the already slightly broken optimism, of that period. The documentary film 'I Girasole: A House Near Verona' by Christoph Schaub and Marcel Meili enables the viewer to take part in a day at the house that turns around its vertical axis once. The movie introduces both the architecture and atmosphere of the building, its various rooms, furnishings and decoration. It gives a memoir of the house's history and of the time and feeling of life in which it was conceived. The film was awarded the 1st prize at the 1995 biennale Film and Architecture in Graz (Austria). The DVD is complemented by a booklet with introductory essays and illustrations.
