The book is intended for students in engineering school or university, young engineers or newcomers in the automotive industry or aeronautics. The objective is to describe in a simple and clear way the problem of energy and motorization for the automobile, helicopters or airplanes. The front-end treatment of these industrial sectors makes it possible to analyze in an original way the similarities and differences of these different means of transport. For this, and based on current technologies and tomorrow, it specifically describes the problem of the energy requirement of cars and aircraft. The focus of this book is on "ill-posed inverse problems". These problems cannot be solved only on the basis of observed data. The building of solutions involves the recognition of other pieces of a priori information. These solutions are then specific to the pieces of information taken into account. Isogeometric analysis (IGA) consists of using the same higher-order and smooth spline functions for the representation of geometry in Computer Aided Design as for the approximation of solution fields in Finite Element Analysis. Now, almost twenty years after its creation, substantial works are being reported in IGA, making it very competitive in scientific computing. This book proposes to use IGA jointly with standard finite element methods (FEM), presenting IGA as a projection of FEM on a more regular reduced basis. By shedding new light on how IGA relates to FEM, we can see how IGA can be implemented on top of an FE code in order to improve the solution of problems that require more regularity. This is illustrated by using IGA with FEM in a non-invasive fashion to perform efficient and robust multiscale global/local simulations in solid mechanics. Furthermore, we show that IGA can regularize the inverse problem of FE digital image correlation in experimental mechanics.

This book introduces an original fractional calculus methodology (�the infinite state approach�) which is applied to the modeling of fractional order differential equations (FDEs) and systems (FDSs). Its modeling is based on the frequency distributed fractional integrator, while the resulting model corresponds to an integer order and infinite dimension state space representation. This original modeling allows the theoretical concepts of integer order systems to be generalized to fractional systems, with a particular emphasis on a convolution formulation. With this approach, fundamental issues such as system state interpretation and system initialization – long considered to be major theoretical pitfalls – have been solved easily. This book concerns the analysis and design of induction heating of poor electrical conduction materials. Some innovating applications such as inductive plasma installation or transformers, thermo inductive non-destructive testing and carbon-reinforced composite materials heating are studied. Analytical, semi-analytical and numerical models are combined to obtain the best modeling technique for each case. Each model has been tested with experimental results and validated. The principal aspects of a computational package to solve these kinds of coupled problems are described. Furthermore, they justify the representation of a stationary Gaussian statistical experiment with the Markov property, as a stochastic difference equation solution, applying the theorem of normal correlation. The statistical hypotheses verification problem is formulated in the classification of evolutionary processes, which determine the dynamics of the predictable component.
