Te Herenga Waka University Press Quarrels with Himself: Essays on James K. Baxter as Prose Writer
`I know now that later in life I will write prose and good prose,' declared the nineteen-year-old James K. Baxter. And he did. The 2015 publication of Baxter's Complete Prose reveals his remarkable range and depth across everything from personal, informal jottings to highly crafted literary essays and political polemics. Quarrels with Himself provides a dozen essays that uncover how much more complicated Baxter is than his popular stereotype, and how his prose writing (like his poetry) wrestles with contradictions, anxieties and competing impulses just as he wrestled with the society in which he lived, or from which he withdrew. Essays by Janet Wilson, Sharon Matthews, Paul Millar, Lawrence Jones, John Davidson, Nicholas Wright, Hugh Roberts, Kirstine Moffat, Paul Morris, Doreen D'Cruz, Peter Whiteford, and Greg O'Brien, with an introduction by Geoffrey Miles.

Profile Books Ltd The Great Game of Business: The Only Sensible Way to Run a Company
In the early 1980s, Springfield Remanufacturing Corporation (SRC) in Springfield, Missouri, was a near bankrupt division of International Harvester. Today it's one of the most successful and competitive companies in the United States, with a share price 3000 times what it was thirty years ago. This miracle turnaround is all down to one man, Jack Stack, and his revolutionary system of Open-Book Management, in which every employee understands the company's key figures, can act on them and has a real stake in the business. In Stack's own words: 'When employees think, act and feel like owners ... everybody wins.' As a management strategy, 'the great game of business' is so simple and effective that it's been taken up by companies from Intel to Harley Davidson.

Oxford University Press Incompressible Fluid Dynamics
Incompressible Fluid Dynamics is a textbook for graduate and advanced undergraduate students of engineering, applied mathematics, and geophysics. The text comprises topics that establish the broad conceptual framework of the subject, expose key phenomena, and play an important role in the myriad of applications that exist in both nature and technology. The first half of the book covers topics that include the inviscid equations of Euler and Bernoulli, the Navier-Stokes equation and some of its simpler exact solutions, laminar boundary layers and jets, potential flow theory with its various applications to aerodynamics, the theory of surface gravity waves, and flows with negligible inertia, such as suspensions, lubrication layers, and swimming micro-organisms. The second half is more specialised. Vortex dynamics, which is so essential to many natural phenomena in fluid mechanics, is developed in detail. This is followed by chapters on stratified fluids and flows subject to a strong background rotation, both topics being central to our understanding of atmospheric and oceanic flows. Fluid instabilities and the transition to turbulence are also covered, followed by two chapters on fully developed turbulence. The text is largely self-contained, and aims to combine mathematical precision with a breadth of engineering and geophysical applications. Throughout, physical insight is given priority over mathematical detail.

New York University Press Personal Knowledge and Beyond: Reshaping the Ethnography of Religion
Over the last decade the sociology of religion and religious studies have experienced a surge of ethnographic research. Scholars now use ethnography, as anthropologists have long done, as a valued source of knowledge from which they draw their pictures of the religious world. Yet, many researchers of religion have yet to grapple with the issues that are changing anthropologists' use of the method. Personal Knowledge and Beyond seeks to foster a cross-disciplinary rethinking of ethnography's possibilities and limits for the study of religions. It provides an overview of recent debates while also pushing them in new directions. In addition, it offers critiques of some of anthropology's reigning conceptualizations. The volume brings together many of the best-known ethnographic researchers of religion, including Karen McCarthy Brown, Lynn Davidman, Armin Geertz, Cheryl Townsend Gilkes, Mary Jo Neitz, and Thomas Tweed. Together, they share substantively from their fieldwork and consider the consequences for the study of religion of rejecting old ethnographic myths, as well as the risks of replacing them with new ones. The volume will be of interest to students as well as to experienced scholars in the field.

Emerald Publishing Limited Job Crafting: The Art of Redesigning a Job
Although most jobs are initially designed by managers, employees also play an important role in this phase through a proactive behavior called ‘job crafting’. It describes a bottom-up approach that consists of customizing and modifying structural, relational, and cognitive aspects of one’s job to match personal skills, attitudes, and inclinations. The literature on this subject has been developing for over 20 years but requires a recapitulation to bring together different and often disconnected contributions and provide a concise research agenda for scholars wishing to approach the study of these issues. This book provides a conceptual framework on job crafting by demonstrating how its practice results in a more meaningful and satisfying work experience. This book is the first to investigate this area of study in such a complete and exhaustive way: it takes a managerial perspective to identify the antecedent and outcome variables of job crafting and suggests behaviors which managers should steer clear from to avoid facing negative and unexpected consequences.

SelfMadeHero I Feel Love
Love makes the world go round. It can also turn your heart as black as coal. In a series of short fictions, Krent Able, Anya Davidson, Julian Hanshaw, Cat Sims, Benjamin Marr and Kelsey Wroten explore love’s dark, twisted underbelly, and offer a much-needed antidote to everything that is sweet, cloying and conventional. Through wife-swapping, slash fiction, medieval aliens, childbirth, swamp monsters and a mysterious black balloon, I Feel Love questions the one emotion that is meant to make us feel good—but that often does the exact opposite. As unflinching as it is honest, this is the kind of book you don't take home to meet your parents.

Archaeopress The Early Mesolithic in Northern Italy and Southern France: An Investigation into Sauveterrian Lithic Technical Systems
The Sauveterrian represents one of the main cultural aspects of the European Early Mesolithic. In this work, its presumed uniformity—mostly based on typological grounds—is questioned with the purpose of assessing and verifying the relationships existing between the two central areas of diffusion of this complex: southern France and northern Italy. A broad technological approach, combining complementary analytical techniques, was applied to the study of a series of French and Italian lithic assemblages. More specifically, these were investigated with the aim of reconstructing the entire reduction sequences, from the procurement of lithic raw materials to the use and discard of tools. Results indicate that the two regions responded to the same conceptual scheme and their respective lithic technical systems shared the same rationale: an extremely optimized technology, not opportunistic in the least, but issued from a careful strategic planning. Nonetheless, in the context of this generalized behaviour, a consistent variability can be found, marked by differences of both ‘stylistic’ and technical nature especially regarding the processes for producing microlithic armatures. At a general level, in the context of the important environmental changes that characterized the Late Glacial to Early Holocene transition, the emergence of Sauveterrian technology was fundamental in allowing the development of a complex settlement structure, characterized by a mobility system based on relatively short distances and with a strong logistic component.
