SAGE Publications Inc Equity Visits: A New Approach to Supporting Equity-Focused School and District Leadership
Because equity and instruction are inextricably bound Why are equity visits such a critical first step to increasing opportunity and access for our under-served students? Because they take instructional rounds to a new level, providing a powerful lens for investigating the intersections of equity and instruction. After all, how can we possibly deliver equitable learning experiences, opportunities, and outcomes for our students, without first pinpointing problems of practice? That’s where Equity Visits will prove absolutely indispensable to district and school administrators. It details how to combine a strong focus on instruction with explicit, intentional efforts to address systemic inequities. Inside you’ll find A range of data collection activities and tools to target central issues of equity in your school Clear guidelines on how to investigate the ways instructional practices, structures, and beliefs lead to inequitable educational experiences—and how these are often masked in the day-to-day life of schools and districts A frank discussion of how to make race and racism an explicit part of investigating and addressing educational inequities Voices of school and district leaders who have taken crucial first steps to become "equity warriors" Recommendations on how to develop policies, initiatives, and practices to confront those inequities Few dispute that instructional improvement must be a central focus of educational leadership, but for too long achieving educational equity has been absent from the conversation. Here is your opportunity to ensure equity occupy a central spot in data collection and analysis, and be explicitly discussed at all levels of your school or district organization. In short, essential reading and doing for all administrators!

Archaeopress The Archaeological Survey of Sudanese Nubia, 1963-69: The Pharaonic Sites
Of the Nubian Archaeological Campaigns responding to the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the survey and excavations carried out within Sudanese Nubia represent the most substantial achievement of the larger enterprise. Many components of the larger project of the UNESCO – Sudan Antiquities Service Survey have been published, in addition to the reports of a number of other major projects assigned separate concessions within the region. However, the results of one major element, the Archaeological Survey of Sudanese Nubia (ASSN) between the Second Cataract and the Dal Cataract remain largely unpublished. This volume, focusing on the pharaonic sites, is the first of a series which aims to bring to publication the records of the ASSN. These records represent a major body of data relating to a region largely now lost to flooding. This is also a region of very considerable importance for understanding the archaeology and history of Nubia more generally, not least in relation to the still often poorly understood relationships between Lower Nubia to the north and the surviving areas of Middle and Upper Nubia, to the south. The ASSN project fieldwork was undertaken over six years between 1963 and 1969, investigating c.130km of the river valley between Gemai, at the south end of the Second Cataract, and Dal.

Harvard Business Review Press The Balanced Scorecard: Translating Strategy into Action
The Balanced Scorecard translates a company's vision and strategy into a coherent set of performance measures. The four perspectives of the scorecard--financial measures, customer knowledge, internal business processes, and learning and growth--offer a balance between short-term and long-term objectives, between outcomes desired and performance drivers of those outcomes, and between hard objective measures and softer, more subjective measures. In the first part, Kaplan and Norton provide the theoretical foundations for the Balanced Scorecard; in the second part, they describe the steps organizations must take to build their own Scorecards; and, finally, they discuss how the Balanced Scorecard can be used as a driver of change.

Associated University Presses Adrift In The Technological Matrix
Technology continues to transform the world with a process that seems to be constantly accelerating. The struggle to understand the way the "new" computer and communications technologies are transforming the world is many-sided. What the essays collected in this issue of the 'Bucknell Review' attempt is a general cultural approach to the notion of ther being a technological "matrix" in which we all now find ourselves "adrift" and of which our experience is often "dread." "Adrift" and "dread" are not single metaphors in the collection. In order to attempt this interrogation of the technological matrix, the essayists have drawn from a variety of disciplines- literature, philosophy, religion, art, media studies- while retaining the substantial contibutions of previous theorists of technology. The main thrust of this collection is to underscore the vast enrichment given to a study of the "new" technologies when approached from a broad cultural standpoint.

Open Court Publishing Co ,U.S. Genius in Their Own Words: The Intellectual Journeys of Seven Great 20th-Century Thinkers
Seven of the twentieth century's greatest thinkers describe how they arrived at the ideas for which they are known. In their own words, universally admired intellectuals such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Einstein. Bertrand Russell, and Martin Buber trace the paths that led to their contributions in the field: A.J. Ayer shares what led to the logical positivist manifesto Language, Truth, and Logic and his subsequent retreat from and criticism of those early ideas, analytic philosophy founder Bertrand Russell's acerbic wit and self-deprecating manner are omnipresent in his narrative describing his intellectual development from childhood on. These carefully selected personal stories provide readers with a broad survey of the intellectual achievements of the 20th century, through the words and reflections of the thinkers themselves. Of interest to any reader curious about the nature of genius and how great minds work, this book is a window into the private world of an intellectual working toward ideas that have defined our time. The seven great thinkers are: A.J. Ayer; Martin Buber; Albert Einstein; Hans-Georg Gadamer; Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan; Bertrand Russell; Jean-Paul Sartre

University Press of America War as an Instrument of Policy: Past, Present, and Future
War as an Instrument of Policy examines the principles of war and how they may apply to the method of decision making in the higher realms of government when military and civilian leaders meet. It begins with an exploration of the emergence of a new kind of limited war beginning with the Vietnam conflict and discusses the principles of war along with typical military theory and strategy to clearly provide an understanding of the thought processes and actions behind the conducting of a war. Two contemporary examples, the Gulf War in 1990 and the South African invasion of Angola in 1987, provide the opportunity to examine the process of military decision-making on every level in these conflicts. Finally, methods of successfully and carefully employing a military methodology of decision making to capitalize on the success of war are suggested.
