Polymer nanocomposites revolutionized research in the composites area by achieving the nanoscale dispersion of the inorganic filler (clay platelets) in the polymer matrices after suitable surface modifications of the filler phase. A large number of polymer matrices were tried and nanocomposites with varying degrees of successes were achieved with these polymer systems. The majority of the synthesis are carried out by melt blending which frequently result in the full exfoliation of the filler. However, advanced techniques provide a number of advantages as compared to the melt blending and lead to more uniform composites with enhanced properties. There are a number of recent advances in these methods such as the use of reactive surfactants, modified initiators, advanced clay surface modifications, use of a variety of fillers, inverse polymerization, and miniemulsion polymerization methods which have further led the generation of advanced exfoliated nanocomposites. Until now, most of the published research has been scattered throughout the literature. Les observations effectuees dans ces sondages permettent de proposer une nouvelle sequence de la periode de Halaf dans la Jezireh syrienne. After M. Mallowan's excavations between 1935 and 1937, a joint expedition resumed the exploration of the site of Chagar Bazar in Syria in 1999. This first excavation report contains the presentation of the first prehistoric soundings done between 1999 and 2001. Following the results obtained in these soundings, a new sequence of the Halaf period in the Syrian Jezireh is proposed.

En relation avec la remarquable exposition Bruges et la Renaissance. De Memling a Pourbus (1998), organisee par la ville et les musees communaux de Bruges, le colloque XII pour l'etude du dessin sous-jacent et de la technologie dans la peinture, avait pour sujet la peinture dans les pays-Bas au 16e siecle. Pratiques d'atelier. Infrarouges et autres methodes d'investigation. Nombre de communications y etaient consacrees. Outre les communications consacrees a l'art des Pays-Bas, l'art allemand etait egalement present avec Hans Holbein et quelques maitres colonais comme le Maitre du Retable de Saint Barthelemy. Ont ete egalement examinees des oeuvres de quelques uns des plus grands peintres de l'art italien Piero della Francesca, Ghirlandaio, Paolo Uccello, Perugino, Verochio et Leonard de Vinci. Ce sont les retombees de ce colloque que vous trouverez dans le present volume.

The papers in this volume dedicated to Iranian studies in the Islamic period (ca year 700 C.E. until today) were read on the occasion of the 6th European Conference of Iranian Studies held in Vienna in 2007 under the auspices of the Societas Iranologica Europaea (SIE). Founded in 1983, the SIA is the largest European independent academic organization of Iranian studies devoted to promoting and supporting this discipline in all its subject areas in European countries and worldwide. The present volume contains an excerpt of articles from the conference covering a wide variety of subjects. In spite of this diversity, however, the articles remain within the framework of what is usually called cultural studies. They range from modern and classical Persian literature, over history, geography and religion, to art and architecture, in order to show the broad range and depth of contemporary scholarship in mediaeval and modern Iranian studies.
