An edition for performers and scholars of the "Cantigas de Loor", a sub-corpus of the "Cantigas of Santa Maria", a vast collection of over 400 songs with texts in the Galician language, ascribed to King Alfonso the Wise (reigned 1252-84). The introduction is in English with parallel Spanish. There is also a chapter on the pronumciation of medieval Galician to aid performers as well as offering a contemporary understanding of the late 13th-century mensural notation.

This is an annotated critical edition of Artículos de costumbres by the Romantic journalist Mariano José de Larra (1809–37), presented with a critical introduction, study guide, glossary and chronology. Larra is still one of the most widely studied Spanish Romantic authors, and his satire of customs and manners in articles such as El castellano viejo, Vuelva usted mañana and Nochebuena de 1836 offers an insight into nineteenth century Spanish culture, while probing issues that are still seen as defining of Spanish identity today. Artículos de costumbres, presented here with an extensive annotation that identifies references that have not been previously elucidated, is a central text in the Spanish canon, opening up questions about modern Spain and issues such as political revolution, class identities, social change and the inclusion of Spain within European modernity.

Jean Paulhan’s Lettre aux directeurs de la Résistance was an important and contentious statement about the influence of communism in intellectual and literary circles. On publication in 1952, the pamphlet revived debates over collaboration with the Nazi authorities that had dominated French society since the Liberation, and that still have important echoes today. In this new edition, John Flower provides a full contextualising introduction. He also examines Paulhan’s evolution during the period and assesses his postion alongside that of other key figures: in particular Mauriac and Camus. The volume makes an important contribution to our understanding of this turbulent period and provides a documentary history of the post-war political and literary debates in Paris.
