This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth International Symposium on Coronary Heart Disease, held in Frankfurt/Federal Republic of Germany. In 1970, when the fIrst symposium was held, the whole range of diagnostic and therapeutic measures was covered, but since then interest in coronary heart disease has increased so considerably that the fourth symposium was restricted to only two therapeutic aspects, angioplasty and intracoronary thrombolysis. It can be noted with pleasure that European cardiologists, namely Andreas Griintzig and Peter Rentrop, have made essential contributions to the applicability of these modes of treatment. When angioplasty was fIrst discussed at the Third International Symposium (Coronary Heart Disease, Stuttgart, 1978) a great deal of astonishment was expressed. Today the procedure has gained an important place in the treatment of angina pecto­ ris. The proportion of candidates for coronary surgery in whom angioplasty can be attempted instead of operation is around 10%, in certain subgroups even higher. The most remarkable fmding of our 5-year experience with angioplasty are the extre­ mely good long-term results. Recurrences happen in about 15%-20% of cases within the fIrst 3 months; after this period of time, recurrences are very unusual and mostly due to progression of the disease at other sites. Angioplasty has thus also contributed to our understanding of the dynamics of the atherosclerotic process.

The Old Greek of Isaiah represents an intriguing and complex unity within the Septuagint. The present volume contains contributions reflecting a variety of issues pertaining to this version, and also offers perspectives for further research. The topics dealt with can be designated as follows: terminology and vocabulary, unity of the book, rhetorical figures, coherence on the level of a pericope, theology, and hermeneutics (fulfilment interpretation). The Greek version is of course compared with the supposed parent text in Hebrew, but several contributions also show a strong interest in the Greek text as it stands. As to the latter approach the following aspects play an important role: the immediate context (verse; pericope), style, the meaning and function of words and phrases, and related texts. This book explores several challenges facing FinTech in Islamic financial institutions. Firstly, large banks and financial institutions in countries with updated and innovative technological channels will earn the technology arbitrage from FinTech. This ‘size’ puzzle may create a challenge for Islamic financial institutions that are of smaller size and from technologically less-developed countries. Secondly, while access to FinTech is getting broader day by day, usage of FinTech is still limited due to personal and governance-related limitations. Moreover, the level of awareness of the emerging FinTech services (i.e., bitcoin, blockchain, etc.) remains extremely poor even among the residents of technologically-advanced countries. Thirdly, use of FinTech by Islamic financial institutions is limited to Islamic banking, to users from developed countries, among young customers, and for a limited number of traditional banking services such as the deposits and payment services. Also, banks hope to use FinTech to increase the size of a new breed of technology-savvy depositors and loan customers to achieve economies of scale, which may help stabilize the banking sector. Automation in Islamic banks and the participation of Islamic financial institutions in blockchain and bitcoin domains require extensive research from Shariah-compliance as well as market and consumer-related grounds. With all the opportunities and challenges of FinTech—promoting inclusion, easier loan monitoring, and risk of Shariah non-compliance—this book explores the implications for Islamic financial institutions and will be of interest to scholars, researchers, and students of Islamic finance and financial technology.

Only in very recent times have therapies been developed that are specific to a particular manifestation of autoimmune disease, and these have begun to replace the all-purpose remedies of the past 30 years. This volume, which draws on the principles of immunology presented in Volume 1050 (Autoimmunity: Concepts and Diagnosis at the Cutting Edge), extends these concepts to the realm of clinical findings and current therapy for many autoimmune and connective tissue disorders. Both organ-specific and organ-nonspecific diseases are covered, and one section is entirely focused on treatment. Treatments using cytokines, chemokines, cognate receptors, and genetic interactions are particularly prominent in these reports, and attention is also paid to the increasing use of intravenous imunoglobulins and both monoclonal and imunosuppressive agents.
