Hammersmith Health Books Ecological Medicine, 2nd Edition: The Antidote to Big Pharma and Fast Food
This is Dr Sarah Myhill's comprehensive guide to health care for health practitioners and motivated patients alike - armed with this knowledge, wellness and an optimal health-span should be within our grasp and the grasp of all those we care for. Easy to follow, logical and evidence based, Dr Myhill shows how, if we can get the basics right, disease specific benefits will follow. She does not pretend it's easy but the incentives are undeniable. A range of case histories - organised by body system to match earlier chapters - show how to apply the theory in this book to ourselves and to those we care for, personally and/or professionally. Using principally the PK diet, vitamin C, iodine, sleep and exercise, plus Dr Myhill's 'Groundhog regimes' (so called because they require constant repetition), ecological medicine can be available to all both practically and affordably. Changes for the new edition include completely revised chapters on the PK diet, iodine, vitamin C and eye health; a greatly expanded chapter on skin health; new information throughout on covid-19, vaccinations, uric acid metabolism, tackling inflammation, importance of boron, thyroid health and treatment, plus many new references

Turner Publishing Company Atomic Iran: How the Terrorist Regime Bought the Bomb and American Politicians
When the hardcover of Atomic Iran was published in 2005, few could have anticipated that it would so accurately foretell events that have since taken place in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Many who once considered it partisan overkill now take its message very seriously. A charter member of the "axis of evil," the rogue state of Iran and the mullahs who govern it are on a collision course with the rest of the world—especially America and Europe. Iran continues to manipulate the price of oil to finance its nuclear endeavors and terrorist activities. And it continues its well-laundered contributions to key U.S. politicians to normalize diplomatic and trade relations between the two nations. With the election of Mahmaud Ahmadinejad as president, Iran is now in the hands of. aShi'ite Muslim who announced in his Semptember 2005 speech to the General Assembly of the United Nations that his divine purpose was to prepare the way for the return of the Madhi. The belief in the Second Coming of the Mahdi is similar to the belief of Christians who anticipate the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, with one important difference: the cult of the Mahdi holds that the world must experience an apocalypse before the Mahdi returns. For a head of state to believe his mission from Allah is to cause the apocalypse needed to bring back the Mahdi is extremely dangerous. Ahmadinejad's religious convictions are shocking. Even at the height of the cold war, such ideas were unthinkable. In Atomic Iran, Jerome R. Corsi sounds a wake-up call to Americans to pay attention to the growing crisis and to hold U.S. politicians accountable for their relationships with and efforts on behalf of the Iranian regime. For years, the world community has labored to negotiate with Iran, all to no avail. The moment Iran has nuclear weapons, everything changes—for the worse.

Emerald Publishing Limited International Teacher Education: Promising Pedagogies
All countries in the world understand that education is vital to human and economic prosperity and that teacher education unavoidably is implicated. But the snag is this: political forces shaping public opinion in individual nations (particularly the U.S.) are deeply divided concerning how teacher education should proceed. This book acknowledges this Achilles heel tension, but does not become weighed down by it. Instead, it focuses on 'the practical' (Schwab, 1969), matters that have been locally deliberated and enacted. Pedagogies are named, origins (cultural/practical/theoretical/policy roots) are traced and a live example of the pedagogy unfurling in the local setting is presented from an insider-view.

American Psychological Association The Psychology of Groups: The Intersection of Social Psychology and Psychotherapy Research
This book synthesizes research on groups from the fields of social psychology and clinical psychology and encourages collaboration among group researchers. Researchers in group psychology and group psychotherapy rarely consider each other’s work, despite their clear areas of common interest. This book demonstrates how these separate but related lines of research can be used to inform and enrich each other. Led by two past presidents of APA’s Society of Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy, this book features expert contributors who examine the interface between social or organizational research on groups and clinical research, as well as the application of findings in each area. They reveal that different kinds of groups are far more similar than they are different, and illustrate how group psychology as a line of inquiry and practice benefits from improved dialogue among its domains. For example, there is growing literature on how individual personality factors such as attachment can affect group processes and outcomes in group psychotherapy. Similarly, research on expectations of social inclusion and ostracism in groups has a long history in social psychology, and there is great potential for these areas of inquiry to inform future research in both clinical and social contexts.

Lund Humphries Publishers Ltd Eric Mendelsohn’s Synagogues in America
In America between 1946 and 1953, the German-Jewish architect Eric Mendelsohn planned seven synagogues, of which four were built, all in the Midwest. In this book, photographer Michael Palmer has recorded in exquisite detail Mendelsohn's four built synagogues: Saint Paul, Saint Louis, Cleveland and Grand Rapids. These photographs are accompanied by an insightful contextual essay by Ita Heinze-Greenberg which reflects on Eric Mendelsohn and his Jewish identity.Mendelsohn's post-war commitment to sacred architecture was a major challenge to him, but one on which he embarked with great enthusiasm. He sought and found radically new architectural solutions for these ‘temples’ that met functional, social and spiritual demands. In the post-war and post-Holocaust climate, the old references had become obsolete, while the founding of the State of Israel in 1948 posed a claim for the redefinition of the Jewish diaspora in general. The duality of Jewish and American identity became more crucial than ever and the congregations were keen to express their integration into a modern America through these buildings. Hardly anyone could have been better suited for this task than Mendelsohn, as he sought to justify his decision to move from Israel and adopt the USA as his new homeland. The places he created to serve Jewish identity in America were a crowning conclusion of his career. They became the benchmark of modern American synagogue architecture, while the design of sacred space added a new dimension in Mendelsohn’s work.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd J. Howard Wert's Gettysburg: A Collection of Relics from the Civil War Battle
J. Howard Wert was a recent college graduate when the armies of the North and South converged near his family's homestead just three miles outside Gettysburg in the summer of 1863. A militia member and anti-slavery supporter, Wert acted as a guide for Union General George Meade, helping position federal troops in the fields and hills around town. Perhaps more importantly, he collected and labeled artifacts from the battle, including a still-hot Confederate shell that almost hit him near Little Round Top. After the war, Wert resumed gathering relics of the three-day battle, many given to him by veterans of both sides, including weapons, clothing, letters, furniture, and even items related to Lincoln's Address. Now this amazing private collection can be appreciated through more than 120 color pictures and informative text about both the items and Wert's life.

Emerald Publishing Limited Understanding Excessive Teacher and Faculty Entitlement: Digging at the Roots
Literature on academic entitlement is almost always associated with students with little examination of entitlement with reference to educators. Feelings of entitlement among educators make them hold onto rigid 'inherited scripts' and constrain the development of flexibility required in this global and technologically disruptive era. It is imperative that we understand how entitled behaviours are triggered in the discursive context of teachers' practice. Understanding Excessive Teacher and Faculty Entitlement develops a significant body of professional knowledge by providing a deeper and sympathetic understanding of what manifests itself as 'excessive entitlement'. The volume presents a theoretical framework within which one can investigate and articulate issues and helps those concerned with education and teacher education internationally to get a sense of the complexities surrounding teachers' work. Bringing together researchers from diverse geographical contexts, this timely book primarily addresses educators and researchers with a spin-off to human resource management in diverse organizational settings.

Temple University Press,U.S. Gangs on Trial: Challenging Stereotypes and Demonization in the Courts
John Hagedorn, who has long been an expert witness in gang-related court cases, claims that what transpires in the trials of gang members is a far cry from what we would consider justice. In Gangs on Trial, he recounts his decades of experience to show how stereotypes are used against gang members on trial and why that is harmful. Hagedorn uses real-life stories to explain how implicit bias often replaces evidence and how the demonization of gang members undermines fairness. Moreover, a “them and us” mentality leads to snap judgments that ignore the complexity of gang life in America.Gangs on Trial dispels myths about gangs and recommends tactics for lawyers, mitigation specialists, and expert witnesses as well as offering insights for jurors. Hagedorn describes how minds are subconsciously “primed” when a defendant is identified as a gang member, and discusses the “backfire effect,” which occurs when jurors hear arguments that run counter to their beliefs. He also reveals how attributional errors, prejudice, and racism impact sentences of nonwhite defendants.Hagedorn argues that dehumanization is the psychological foundation of mass incarceration. Gangs on Trial advocates for practical sentencing reforms and humanizing justice.

Pennsylvania State University Press Stigma: Marking Skin in the Early Modern World
The early modern period opened a new era in the history of dermal marking. Intensifying global travel and trade, especially the slave trade, bought diverse skin-marking practices into contact as never before. Stigma examines the distinctive skin cultures and marking methods of Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas as they began to circulate and reshape one another in the early modern world. By highlighting the interwoven histories of tattooing, branding, stigmata, baptismal and beauty marks, wounds and scars, this volume shows that early modern markers of skin and readers of marked skin did not think about different kinds of cutaneous signs as separate from each other. On the contrary, Europeans described Indigenous tattooing in North America, Thailand, and the Philippines by referring their readers to the tattoos Christian pilgrims received in Jerusalem or Bethlehem. When explaining the devil’s mark on witches, theologians claimed it was an inversion of holy marks such as those of baptism or divine stigmata. Stigma investigates how early modern people used permanent marks on skin to affirm traditional roles and beliefs, and how they hybridized and transformed skin marking to meet new economic and political demands. In addition to the editors, the contributors to this volume are Xiao Chen, Ana Fonseca Conboy, Peter Erickson, Claire Goldstein, Matthew S. Hopper, Katrina H. B. Keefer, Mordechay Lewy, Nicole Nyffenegger, Mairin Odle, and Allison Stedman.

Race, while drawn from the visual cues of human diversity, is an idea with a measurable past, an identifiable present, and an uncertain future. The concept of race has been at the center of both triumphs and tragedies in American history and has had a profound effect on the human experience. Race Unmasked revisits the origins of commonly held beliefs about the scientific nature of racial differences, examines the roots of the modern idea of race, and explains why race continues to generate controversy as a tool of classification even in our genomic age.Surveying the work of some of the twentieth century's most notable scientists, Race Unmasked reveals how genetics and related biological disciplines formed and preserved ideas of race and, at times, racism. A gripping history of science and scientists, Race Unmasked elucidates the limitations of a racial worldview and throws the contours of our current and evolving understanding of human diversity into sharp relief.
