Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd EU Supervision of Energy Derivative Trading
This timely book provides a detailed analysis of the regulatory landscape of energy derivatives trading in the EU. Liebrich Hiemstra argues that current supervision of the sector is too opaque and identifies how more effective legal remedies can be created to safeguard important legal values. Analysing the intersection of the energy and financial sectors, this book references key judgments from the EU Court of Justice to examine the interactions between energy derivatives supervisory bodies and market participants active in energy trading. Hiemstra explores the tension between energy derivatives trading as a cross-border activity, and a legislative framework for the sector characterised by national supervision and enforcement. The book outlines how this leads to ineffective supervision, particularly in the area of information sharing, with market participants obliged to disclose business-sensitive information. It gives practical recommendations to advance legislation and regulation in the field and protect the field from increasing energy sector volatility. EU Supervision of Energy Derivative Trading will be essential reading for scholars of energy law, financial law, and EU supervision and practitioners in this field. It will also be an invaluable resource for supervisory agencies looking to improve regulatory frameworks.

Basic Health Publications Health Benefits Derived from Sweet Orange
Our bodies need the right amount of blood flow to keep our hearts pumping, our legs moving and our brains functioning. Good circulation is clearly critical to our existence. Over our lifetime, our veins absorb a lot of wear and tear - excess weight, sedentary lifestyles, dietary indiscretions, pregnancy and other factors can cause veins to swell and bulge, break and leak, while contributing to spider and varicose veins, haemorrhoids, leg ulcers and many other vein problems. By middle age, half of us will manifest some type of vein condition. Standard treatments include lubricants, warm baths and other less effective procedures or laser surgery and sclerotherapy injections, which, although highly successful, come with side effects. Yet a safe, natural and effective solution is right under our nose. In the rind of the trillions of sweet oranges we consume each year, there is a little known vein-protecting, anti-inflammatory bioflavonoid called diosmin. Backed by clinical research, this citrus bioflavonoid has been recommended by European doctors to treat circulatory and vascular conditions for more than thirty years! HEALTH BENEFITS DERIVED FROM SWEET ORANGES discusses the eight most common vein complications: varicose veins, haemorrhoids, diabetes, leg ulcers, ankle swelling, capillary fragility, leg cramps and phlebitis (inflammation of a vein) For each condition the reader will learn what causes it, what damages it inflicts on the vein, its physical signs and symptoms and nitty-gritty details from clinical studies proving the diosmin promotes strong veins, healthy legs and sound circulation.

In response to the 2008 financial crisis and drawing on his experience trading derivatives, LiPuma outlines how they function as complex devices that organize speculative capital as well as the ways derivative-driven capitalism not only produces the conditions for its own existence, but also penetrates the fabric of everyday life. Framing finance as a form of social life and highlighting the intrinsically social character of financial derivatives, LiPuma deepens our understanding of derivatives so that we may someday use them to serve the public well-being.

Palgrave Macmillan Interest Rate Derivatives Explained: Volume 2: Term Structure and Volatility Modelling
This book on Interest Rate Derivatives has three parts. The first part is on financial products and extends the range of products considered in Interest Rate Derivatives Explained I. In particular we consider callable products such as Bermudan swaptions or exotic derivatives. The second part is on volatility modelling. The Heston and the SABR model are reviewed and analyzed in detail. Both models are widely applied in practice. Such models are necessary to account for the volatility skew/smile and form the fundament for pricing and risk management of complex interest rate structures such as Constant Maturity Swap options. Term structure models are introduced in the third part. We consider three main classes namely short rate models, instantaneous forward rate models and market models. For each class we review one representative which is heavily used in practice. We have chosen the Hull-White, the Cheyette and the Libor Market model. For all the models we consider the extensions by a stochastic basis and stochastic volatility component. Finally, we round up the exposition by giving an overview of the numerical methods that are relevant for successfully implementing the models considered in the book.

Hanser Publications Applications of Biomass-Derived Materials for Bioproducts and Bioenergy
This book offers a unique overview of usage of biomass, biomaterials, and bioproducts, including biopolymers. Included are materials, processes, usage as an energy source, and, in particular, applications. It is intended to educate both professionals and graduate students, who typically must acquire knowledge outside of traditional academic disciplines to gain an appreciation of these systems. While the growing need for renewable energy can be satisfied from other renewable sources, biomass is our only real source of renewable carbon-based chemicals and fuels. More and more companies are moving toward using these materials, and investing in new technology based on renewable resources to develop their businesses in a sustainable way.Despite this, few scientists and engineers have been appropriately trained to work in the interdisciplinary field of the biomass economy. Traditional academic disciplines are not well organized to train engineers and scientists to develop new bio-refinery concepts and bio-based products (including bio-based polymers) in industry, nor to develop and integrate pathways to convert biomass into other forms of energy and useful products. The integration of old and new pathways to satisfy global and local markets is the basic skill required to create new biomass processing alternatives. This book is written to fill this gap.

The Catholic University of America Press Knowing the Natural Law: From Precepts and Inclinations to Deriving Oughts
Recent discussions of Thomas Aquinas's treatment of natural law have focused upon the ""self-evident"" character of the first principles, but few attempts have been made to determine in what manner they are self-evident. On some accounts, a self-evident precept must have, at most, a tenuous connection with speculative reason, especially our knowledge of God, and it must be untainted by the stain of ""deriving"" an ought from an is. Yet Aquinas himself had a robust account of the good, rooted in human nature. He saw no fundamental difference between is-statements and ought-statements, both of which he considered to be descriptive.Knowing the Natural Law traces the thought of Aquinas from an understanding of human nature to a knowledge of the human good, from there to an account of ought-statements, and finally to choice, which issues in human actions. The much discussed article on the precepts of the natural law (I-II, 94, 2) provides the framework for a natural law rooted in human nature and in speculative knowledge. Practical knowledge is itself threefold: potentially practical knowledge, virtually practical knowledge, and fully practical knowledge. This distinction within practical knowledge, typically overlooked or underutilized, reveals the steps by which the mind moves from speculative knowledge all the way to fully practical knowledge. The most significant sections of Knowing the Natural Law examine the nature of ought-statements, the imperative force of moral precepts, the special character of per se nota propositions as found within the natural law, and the final movement from knowledge to action.

John Wiley & Sons Inc The Practical Guide to Wall Street: Equities and Derivatives
The Practical Guide to Wall Street is an indispensable resource for anyone who aspires to a front-office sales or trading position on Wall Street and an essential desk reference for market practitioners and those who interact with this exciting but widely misunderstood industry. Written by an experienced trader in a clear, conversational style and assuming no previous background in finance, The Practical Guide to Wall Street provides a thorough schooling in the core curriculum of the equity and equity derivatives sales and trading business - exactly what you would learn from sitting beside the traders at a tier-one Wall Street investment bank (except that in practice, traders rarely have time to provide such detailed explanations!) Topics covered include: Clear, detailed and intuitive explanations of all major products, their function, pricing and risks (several of which are unavailable anywhere else despite producing billions of dollars in annual revenue for Wall St.) The layout of the trading floor, the roles and responsibilities of the different sales and trading groups and how they interact to service the client business An overview of the structure of the macro-economy and the trader’s perspective on the significance of economic data releases and their impact on the financial markets A review of those concepts from fundamental valuation and financial statement analysis of greatest relevance on the trading floor (as opposed to abstract valuation models) Practical details of the structure and functioning of the equity and derivative markets including translations of trader jargon, Bloomberg tips, market conventions, liquidity and risk considerations and much more… This book provides the first comprehensive explanation of all aspects of the functioning of the equities division, with information, details and insights previously only available to those who already worked on a trading floor. The availability of this material in a format accessible to non-professionals fundamentally changes the level of industry knowledge employers in the financial services industry can expect of new hires.

Duke University Press The Social Life of Financial Derivatives: Markets, Risk, and Time
In The Social Life of Financial Derivatives Edward LiPuma theorizes the profound social dimensions of derivatives markets and the processes, rituals, and belief systems that drive them.

Edinburgh University Press Derivatives in Islamic Finance: Examining the Market Risk Management Framework
An economic and legal analysis of derivative hedging instruments in Islamic finance. The Islamic finance industry faces the challenging task of attempting to reconcile the risk management demands of business entities with the difficulties posed by the seemingly rigid stance taken by some Shari'ah scholars over hedging practices. Offering a fresh perspective, Sherif Ayoub confronts the challenge by reformulating how we might think about the theorisation of economic matters in the Islamic faith. He also considers the associated perceptions of permissibility that have until now been confined to the legal sphere, with a focus on contractual elements. Ayoub sheds light on the way the Islamic finance industry conceptualises the role of financial instruments. Paying particular attention to derivatives in a market risk management framework that adheres to the objectives of Islamic jurisprudence, readers will come to understand the issues surrounding the avoidance of Riba (usury), Gharar (excessive uncertainty) and Maysir (gambling). It scrutinises the rationale and basis of Shari'ah Resolutions and Standards set by various bodies in the Islamic finance industry prohibiting the use of derivative hedging instruments. It uses economic theory and actual market practices to show the benefits of the contemporary risk management framework. It introduces new topics that are relevant to the discussion including the conceptualisation of money, gambling and financial intermediaries.
