David Zwirner Marlene Dumas: Against the Wall
Newly reprinted, Against the Wall includes large-scale works primarily based on media imagery and newspaper clippings documenting the conflict between Israel and Palestine, exploring the tension between the photographic documentation of reality and the constructed, imaginary space of painting. Originally published in 2010 on the occasion of Against the Wall, Dumas’s first solo presentation at David Zwirner in New York, this much sought-after exhibition catalogue—which sold out shortly after publication—has been reprinted to coincide with the artist’s 2014–2015 European retrospective exhibition The Image as Burden, organized by Tate Modern, London in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and the Fondation Beyeler, Basel. Described by Deborah Solomon in a New York Times profile as “one of contemporary art’s most compelling painters,” Marlene Dumas has continuously explored the complex range of human emotions, often probing questions of gender, race, sexuality, and economic inequality through her dramatic and at times haunting figural compositions. Throughout her career, the internationally renowned artist has continually created lyrically charged compositions that eulogize the frailties of the human body, probing issues of love and melancholy. At times her subjects are more topical, merging socio-political themes with personal experience and art-historical antecedents to reflect unique perspectives on the most salient and controversial issues facing contemporary society. The large-scale works included in Against the Wall are primarily based on media imagery and newspaper clippings documenting the conflict between Israel and Palestine, exploring the tension between the photographic documentation of reality and the constructed, imaginary space of painting. The Wall, the painting that began the series, at first appears to present a scene at the Western Wall (also known as the Wailing Wall), an important site of religious pilgrimage located in Jerusalem. However, this work is based upon a photograph from a newspaper that portrayed a group of Orthodox Jews on their way to pray at Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem. Through her delicate treatment of every scene, Dumas destabilizes preconceived notions about what, in fact, is being pictured—engaging the often ambiguous nature of ideas like truth or justice. “In a sense they are my first landscape paintings,” Dumas further notes in the catalogue, “or should I say ‘territory paintings.’ That is why they are so big.” The somber color plates reproduced in the publication are given context by Dumas’s own musings, a text framed as a letter to David Zwirner in which she tries to tell him “about the ‘why’ ” of this powerful series.

David & Charles The Full Moon Yearbook: A Year of Ritual and Healing Under the Light of the Full Moon
When the full moon rises in the night sky, it's hard not to be captivated by the light that streams down on earth from our closest celestial neighbour. Even in the modern age, drenched in artificial light, the full moon has a magic that speaks to our most primal selves. This magic was recognised throughout human history, and lives on in the names various cultures have given each full moon as it rises above us. The Full Moon Yearbook combines Native American culture, Medieval Celtic Culture, East Asian culture and Witchcraft to dive into the stories that have led to names like February's Budding Moon, or November's Frost Moon. Over thirteen chapters, the names and mythology associated with each full moon are explored, as well as corresponding crystals, rituals, and yoga practices to make engaging with the energy of the full moon natural and fun. That thirteenth chapter is dedicated to the Blue moon, and in The Full Moon Yearbook readers will discover the reason why this mysterious moon appears in our night skies, along with its even more elusive friend, the Black Moon. Alongside the folk names, The Full Moon Yearbook highlights some of the goddesses that have been dedicated to, or personified, the moon in ancient religions, bringing their stories to life. With the international perspective, lunar festivals and customs from around the world and practical makes and recipes to help celebrate the full moon are included in this illustrated guide, showing how important the full moon has been throughout history to humankind. The Full Moon Yearbook is perfect for anyone who has ever felt a pull towards living in harmony with the moon, and longs to be living a lunar-inspired life.

David & Charles Crochet Collage Garden: 100 Patterns for Crochet Flowers, Plants and Petals
Create stunning crochet collages with this collection of 100 patterns for crochet flowers, plants and petals. Crochet designer and gardener, Chris Norrington, has created 100 crochet motifs arranged in 10 collages based on the beautiful flowers and plants found in her wonderful cottage garden on the edge of the beautiful North York Moors National Park. All of the motifs are inspired in some way by Chris' garden and the collages roughly follow the pattern of the seasons from the first flowers in spring, through to the frosty leaves of winter. The motif designs are inspired by the colours and shapes found in nature and, while some are recognisable as specific plant species, they are not intended to be botanically accurate representations of particular plants. Alongside the more usual front-on view of flowers in full bloom, Chris has included some patterns for flowers viewed from the side, half-opened flowers, buds, seedheads, berries and fungi. There is also a large variety of foliage types from individual leaves to leafy stems, ferns and grasses. Each of the collages has a different, sometimes seasonal, theme and all of the compositions are different - there are wreaths and bouquets, some are arranged in a jug or a vase while others grow straight from the ground. The collage themes include Woodland Glade, inspired by a sun-dappled, shady forest corner with ferns and snowdrops, the Vintage Blue Bouquet collage is inspired by the shapes and soft pastel colours of Lily-of-the-valley and Scabious, and the Flower Meadow collage evokes a prairie-style meadow with ornamental grasses interspersed with tall perennial flowers. You can have fun recreating the collages that Chris has designed or you can mix and match the motifs of your favourite plants and flowers to make your own creations. There are instructions for which yarn to use to create the motifs but you can experiment with different types of yarn to create your own versions. As well as creating the beautiful crochet collages which could be mounted and framed, there are ideas for what to make from the crocheted motifs including decorative applique embellishments on clothes and homewares, as well as bookmarks and keyring charms.

And that's before the pandemic and working-from-home burnout became even more prevalent. It was these worrying facts and her own experience of burnout that led mental-health advocate Bex Spiller to set up The Anti-Burnout Club, which has grown exponentially since launch in 2021. Bex has witnessed first-hand how burnout isn't just reserved for high-flying execs at FTSE 100 companies. It's creeping into our homes, making it impossible for many of us to cope with all of the demands of modern life. With this journal, Bex has created a multi-platform solution to a growing problem. Combining people's love for pen and paper with the rise in online wellness apps and platforms, The Anti-Burnout Journal works for traditionalists and technology lovers alike. This undated journal spans 12 weeks with weekly lessons and challenges to help beat burnout, delivered through the pages of the journal alongside an online dashboard with lifetime access to video lessons in yoga, mindfulness, meditation, nutrition and breathwork, can be watched time and again. Alongside the lessons are weekly and daily pages that encourage journalling the more traditional way using everything you've learned. A collection of bright, bold and beautiful knitting patterns based on Honsestrikk, a Danish knitting movement from the 1970s which broke away from traditional knitting rules. Honsestrikk, which loosely translates as 'chicken stitch' was influenced by the radical social and political movements of the time, including the women's rights movement, and this can be seen in the personal and political messages of the some of the pattern designs. Instead of the more traditional fair isle colourwork techniques, Honsestrikk knitting featured political messages and motifs, colours clashed and borders butted up against each other in a riot of colour and pattern. Honsestrikk is about knitting in a freer style so you have the freedom to express yourself and create truly unique, personalized garments and accessories. Designer Anna Bauer has been inspired by the Honsestrikk movement to create this collection of basic designs and patterns so you can choose your own combinations and create and knit your own free, radical knits.

Things look like they just might be settling down for Worzel. With his sense of adventure matched only by his speed, ponds, pheasants, and a bitch at the end of the lane, are all far, far more interesting than Mum. Worzel has reached the 'terribibble teenage twos' - that time in every dog's life when their owners wonder if the work, patience and dedication spent in the early days was pointless ...and why everything their dog previously understood has suddenly become, at best, optional, but, more often, ignored!

David & Charles How to Restore Honda Fours
In 1969 Honda launched a motorcycle that many consider to be the world’s first superbike. The Honda CB750 had the first mass-produced 4-cylinder inline engine, a single overhead camshaft with four carburettors, a 4-into-4 exhaust system, and came with electric start and front disc brakes as standard. This specification set the bar higher than ever before on a production motorcycle, and led to other Japanese manufacturers introducing their own 4-cylinder models. Following the success of the original CB750, Honda went on to produce a range of motorcycles using SOHC 4-cylinder engines. All with their own characteristics, they proved to be reliable and smooth running, and even today, with the correct care, can offer reliable transport on modern roads. Now, with some examples over 40 years old, many enthusiasts wish to restore these classic machines. This book will guide the enthusiast through a full restoration of these fine classic motorcycles.
