Pesda Press Rock Trails South Wales: A Hillwalker's Guide to the Geology & Scenery
This book explains to the hillwalker, in easy to understand but accurate terms, how geology has shaped the landscape of South Wales. A selection of 16 guided walks is used to illustrate this in terms of what can be seen on the ground. The hills, valleys and coasts of South Wales are some of Britain's most celebrated and iconic landscapes. The coasts of Gower and Pembroke, and the shapely peaks of the Brecon Beacons are especially popular. These varied landscapes reflect a highly diverse geology. From the rolling hills of Mid and West Wales, the spectacular heights of the Brecon Beacons, the rocky outcrops of Fforest Fawr and Mynydd Du, the valleys and moors of 'the coalfield', to the delightful scenery of the southern and western coasts - each has its own fascinating geological story to tell. This book is for the walker who sets out among these hills and coasts and who wants to learn a bit more about the forces that forged this landscape. The first part is an account of the geological history of South Wales, while the second contains 16 walks where you can see evidence of the geology, along with some of the most outstanding scenery of the region. The author has concentrated on what you can see as you walk around the hills, pointing to conspicuous, easily seen features in rocks and the overall shape of the terrain in accounting for the present day landscape. Also in this Rock Trails series by Paul Gannon are Lakeland, Peak District, Scottish Highlands and Snowdonia.

Globe Law and Business Ltd Employee Share Plans: International Legal and Tax Issues
In turbulent economic times, employee share plans have remained an important part of the corporate landscape for both listed and non-listed companies. Using employee share plans can conserve cash for cash-strapped companies. In some countries tax benefits can be achieved for employees and tax savings for employers. Many companies choose to extend their employee share incentive plans internationally, either on a discretionary basis to senior executives or under all-employee arrangements. In many cases such plans act as a corporate glue; helping to enhance a shared corporate identity and motivating employees to work more productively. At the senior executive level, share plans can be used to align the interests of shareholders with decision-making executives. Whatever the arrangement, companies need to consider various issues before extending their employee share plans in this way, including securities laws, tax and social security aspects (for both employee and employer), the position of internationally mobile employees, reporting and withholding requirements, exchange control issues and employment and data protection laws. This fully revised and expanded second edition features contributions by leading experts from 32 countries, including new chapters on Italy, Japan, Luxembourg and South Africa, setting out in just one volume the important legal and tax issues to be considered when operating employee share plans internationally. This major text will assist legal, tax and HR professionals in multinational companies, and the private practice advisers working with them, in extending their employee share plans globally.

The New Press Chokehold: Policing Black Men
Finalist for the 2018 National Council on Crime & Delinquency’s Media for a Just Society AwardsNominated for the 49th NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work (Nonfiction)A 2017 Washington Post Notable Book A Kirkus Best Book of 2017“Butler has hit his stride. This is a meditation, a sonnet, a legal brief, a poetry slam and a dissertation that represents the full bloom of his early thesis: The justice system does not work for blacks, particularly black men.”—The Washington Post “The most readable and provocative account of the consequences of the war on drugs since Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow . . . .”—The New York Times Book Review“Powerful . . . deeply informed from a legal standpoint and yet in some ways still highly personal”—The Times Literary Supplement (London)With the eloquence of Ta-Nehisi Coates and the persuasive research of Michelle Alexander, a former federal prosecutor explains how the system really works, and how to disrupt itCops, politicians, and ordinary people are afraid of black men. The result is the Chokehold: laws and practices that treat every African American man like a thug. In this explosive new book, an African American former federal prosecutor shows that the system is working exactly the way it's supposed to. Black men are always under watch, and police violence is widespread—all with the support of judges and politicians. In his no-holds-barred style, Butler, whose scholarship has been featured on 60 Minutes, uses new data to demonstrate that white men commit the majority of violent crime in the United States. For example, a white woman is ten times more likely to be raped by a white male acquaintance than be the victim of a violent crime perpetrated by a black man. Butler also frankly discusses the problem of black on black violence and how to keep communities safer—without relying as much on police. Chokehold powerfully demonstrates why current efforts to reform law enforcement will not create lasting change. Butler's controversial recommendations about how to crash the system, and when it's better for a black man to plead guilty—even if he's innocent—are sure to be game-changers in the national debate about policing, criminal justice, and race relations.

Rowman & Littlefield Imagining Fascism: The Cultural Politics of the French Young Right, 1930-1945
Led by Robert Brasillach and Thierry Maulnier, the 'Young Right' emerged as a generational insurgency within Charles Mauarras's Action française in the early 1930s. Inspired by the mobilizing energies of foreign fascisms, the men of the Young Right became vocal advocates for a French 'national revolution.' Combining native strains of French nationalism with selected 'lessons' from foreign sources, they soon constructed a distinctive variant of French fascism—one, however, which proved highly unstable. By the eve of the war, the question of fascism fragmented the Young Right itself, creating an ideological impasse that, after 1940, led some to Paris and open collaboration with Germany, others to Vichy to press the case for a radicalization of the National Revolution, and still others back to the Action française and its reactionary brand of nationalism. The odyssey illuminates not only the emergence of the engagé fascist intellectual in France but, more generally, many of the tensions that hindered the formation of a unified French fascist movement.

Dalkey Archive Press Words for a Deaf Daughter and Gala: A Fictional Sequel
This volume brings together two of Paul West's best books: his critically acclaimed "Words for a Deaf Daughter" (1970), a nonfiction account of West's deaf and brain-damaged daughter Mandy at age eight, and "Gala" (1976), a novel about a writer named Wight Deulius who brings his handicapped teenage daughter Michaela from England to America for a visit. While Words is an account of Mandy's diagnosis and treatment, Gala is "the scenario of a wish-fulfillment" (as West writes in the preface), a continuation of the father and daughter's joyful investigation of the richness of life and its amazing possibilities. Ranging across natural history and astronomy in his effort to understand his daughter's handicap, West finds in Mandy/Michaela an irrepressible and unpredictable guide to the mysteries of the universe. Brought together in the same volume, the books also allow a unique look at how nonfiction and fiction techniques can be used to the same ends in the hands of a master of prose.
