Teachers' College Press Seeing Whiteness: The Essential Essays of Robin DiAngelo
Long before the widespread success of the 2018 book White Fragility: Why It's So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism, Robin DiAngelo was breaking with white solidarity and writing, speaking, and teaching on the relationship among white supremacy, structural racism, and white identity. In this volume, DiAngelo has gathered a selection of her groundbreaking works leading up to White Fragility. Speaking as a white person to her fellow white people, she seamlessly blends the personal with the political. The result is an engaging and provocative analysis of the sociopolitical forces of race that shape our lives. Taking up familiar ideologies such as individualism and meritocracy, she breaks down how these concepts function to protect and obscure structural racism. Collectively, these essays show how racism infuses our society and its institutions; it is a system that goes well beyond individual intentions or conscious acts of meanness. By changing the question from if we are part of systemic racism to how each of us play a part, DiAngelo's body of work provides a transformative framework for white identity and antiracist action. Featured Essays:Chapter 1: My Class Didn't Trump My Race: Using Oppression to Face Privilege Chapter 2: Why Can't We All Just Be Individuals?Chapter 3: My Feelings Are Not About You: Personal Experience as a Move of Whiteness (with David Allen) Chapter 4: Getting Slammed: White Depictions of Race Dialogues as Arenas of Violence (with Özlem Sensoy) Chapter 5: Nothing to Add: A Challenge to White Silence in Racial Discussions Chapter 6: White Fragility Chapter 7: White Fragility AccessibleChapter 8: "We Put It in Terms of "Not-Nice": White Antiracists and Parenting (with Sarah Matlock)Chapter 9: Respect Differences? Manchester University Press Reading Robin Hood: Content, Form and Reception in the Outlaw Myth
This book explores and explains stories about the mythic outlaw, who from the Middle Ages to the present day has stood up for the values of natural law and true justice. Analysing the whole sequence of Robin Hood adventures, it begins with the medieval tradition, including early poems and the long-surviving sung ballads, and goes on to look at two variant Robins: the Scottish version, here named Rabbie Hood, and gentrified Robin, the exiled Earl of Huntington, now partnered by Lady Marian. The nineteenth century re-imagined Robin as a modern figure – a lover of nature, Marian, England and the rights of the ordinary man. In novels and films he has developed into an international figure of freedom, while Marian’s role has grown in a modern feminist context. Even to this day, the Robin Hood myth continues to reproduce itself, constantly discovering new forms and new meanings.

Reaktion Books Storyworlds of Robin Hood: The Origins of a Medieval Outlaw
Robin Hood is one of the most enduring and well-known figures of English folklore. Yet who was he? In this intriguing book, Lesley Coote re-examines the early tales about Robin in light of the stories, both English and French, that surrounded them - stories with which they shared many elements of form and meaning. In the process, she returns to questions such as `Where did Robin come from?' and `What did these stories mean?' The Robin who reveals himself is as spiritual as he is he is secular and as much an `insider' as he is an outlaw. And in the context of current debates about national identity and Britain's relationship with the wider world, Robin emerges to be as European as he is English - or perhaps, as the author suggests, that is precisely the quality which made him fundamentally English all along.

Rowman & Littlefield Robin Hood: The Early Poems, 1465-1560, Texts, Contexts, and Ideology
Previous scholarship on the early Robin Hood poems has tended to treat the three major works—Robin Hood and the Monk, Robin Hood and the Potter, and A Lytell Geste of Robyn Hode—as a homogeneous group with a common audience and ideology. In this new study, Thomas H. Ohlgren demonstrates that each work must be evaluated according to its own history, production, ownership, transmission, and reception. Employing a variety of archival and genealogical approaches, Ohlgren not only identifies the original owners of the two Cambridge manuscripts—a significant finding in itself—but also places each of these works, including the seven different editions of the Geste, into its own time, place, and cultural register. Ohlgren's findings should provoke and stimulate new research in Robin Hood studies. The book is accompanied by an appendix on dialects and language by Lister M. Matheson.
