The Dales Way is a 79 mile (127km) long distance trail in the north of England, running between Ilkley, in North Yorkshire and Bowness-on-Windermere, in Cumbria. Much of the route passes through the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. Starting out in Ilkley, the route runs along Wharfedale, passing the impressive ruins of Bolton Priory and the attractive market town of Grassington. It continues along the River Wharfe through dramatic limestone scenery before it crosses The Pennines to reach Dentdale and Sedbergh. It then skirts the Howgill Fells and crosses the M6 motorway to finish overlooking Lake Windermere. This map-guide is laid out for walkers travelling from Ilkley to Bowness, although walkers travelling in the opposite direction should find it equally useful. Each panel includes a detailed route map, route profile and helpful notes on navigation. There are link routes from Bradford, Leeds and Harrogate to the start of the route at Ilkley.

Dale Dorsey considers one of the most fundamental questions in philosophical ethics: to what extent do the demands of morality have normative authority over us and our lives? Must we conform to moral requirements? Most who have addressed this question have treated the normative significance of morality as simply a fact to be explained. But Dorsey argues that this traditional assumption is misguided. According to Dorsey, not only are we not required to conform to moral demands, conforming to morality's demands will not always even be normatively permissible---moral behavior can be (quite literally) wrong. William Daley's geometric ceramic vessels explore the synthesis between interior and exterior, volume and surface, form and symbol. Their unglazed surfaces echo architectural spaces and rhythms. Daley is an innovative artist-educator who helped revolutionize arts education post World War II. Success in his explorations led to many commissions for large-scale public and private screens and sculptures, executed in both bronze and ceramics. This retrospective of the ceramic art of William Daley spans two centuries, from the 1950s through the early 2000s. The text includes an essay by Ruth Fine, Curator of Special Projects for Washington's National Gallery of Art and a foreword by Daley's gallery representative Helen Drutt English. Over 300 brilliant images reveal the ceramic vessels Daley has created, including commissioned work. In Chicago in mid-twentieth century amid the haze and smoke of urban renewal and the sounds of the wrecking balls and bulldozers, there lived two men, both street-savvy, one Black, one Irish, one young, one old and both leaders of their clans. Each ruled with an iron fist. Each embodied the fighting spirit of the turbulent 1960s. One was David Barksdale, the Black Disciples leader, a Black youth club that would give birth to America's largest street gang; the other was Richard J. Daley, the legendary Mayor of the City of Chicago. He was one of the longest-serving, most prominent mayors in American history and the last of the big-city "bosses." Although the two never met, at least not face-to-face, their fates were linked by a time of change, an era of protest, which was a decisive moment of transformational power that was on the verge of a violent uprising in America's second-largest city. This is a book that is as lively as its subject. A braided narrative of two larger than life people, it has the boldness to combine two oddly related 1960s stories into a single narrative that is both intimate and epic. One captures the unlikely story of a Negro boy whose share-cropping family migrated from rural Mississippi to Chicago, where he started a street gang that became the largest in America. The book's other path follows America's last big city "boss," whose persona is legendary and bigger than life. While historians, political pundits, and those who knew him speak of "Hizzonor" as being a proud, Irish-Catholic who was the long-time godfather of the Chicago Democratic Party and Mayor who saved Chicago from becoming another Detroit or Cleveland, they also acknowledge that he was a fierce segregationist.
