Columbia University Press Freedom Reread
Few writers rankle like Jonathan Franzen. Despite popular acclaim, robust sales, and august literary laurels, Franzen’s polarizing persona shares the spotlight with—and sometimes steals it from—his tragicomic novels of Midwestern family life.In this reconsideration of Freedom (2010), L. Gibson explores the difficulty of coming to terms with Jonathan Franzen. Freedom Reread considers the author’s distinctive narrative technique in light of the contradictions for which he is renowned: widely read curmudgeon, tweeted-about luddite, self-proclaimed partisan of fiction who frequently announces the novel’s death. Bookended by autofictional forays into the process of—and resistance to—taking a definite stance on Franzen, this book places Freedom in conversation with a playful, idiosyncratic array of interlocutors, including Middlemarch and You’ve Got Mail, Amitav Ghosh on climate change and Susan Sontag on metaphor, speculative fiction and Succession.Avowedly ambivalent about Franzen, Gibson offers both a fresh appreciation of the author’s work and a searching critical analysis of his pronouncements on the novel’s fate. Wide-ranging and stylistically ambitious, Freedom Reread delivers an assured, artful inquiry into Franzen’s novelistic technique and public persona.

Lannoo Publishers World Book of Hope
After the worldwide success of The World Book of Happiness and The World Book of Love, author Leo Bormans has spent two years studying the scientific research on hope and meeting the most prominent experts in the field. Hope is not a luxury of the privileged few. It represents a universal psychological resource that can be found in all corners of the world. Hope is all of this: a tool for envisioning definable goals, a coping resource, an expression of trust and openness as well as a spiritual gift earned by faith or ritual. In the course of a lifetime every individual is apt to experience these different shades of hope. The World Book of Hope is an inspiring quest to the breadth and depth of hope. It offers a universal framework for understanding and using the most powerful tool of mankind: hope. Without hope there is no life. In this book, 100 professional researchers from all over the world share what we know about hope. Not spiritual philosophy but evidence based knowledge of recent experiments and life-long research, set in a language everybody understands. This book unveils the secret power of hope in love and relationships, study and work, health and illness, education and care, freedom and prison, management and leadership, therapy and economy, youth and old age. It even shows how we can make pessimism work and how we can benefit from post-traumatic growth: one door closes, another one opens. AUTHOR: Leo Bormans is a journalist, writer and public speaker. For more than twenty years, he was the chief editor of the school magazines Klasse and Yeti. At present, he travels around the world as the Ambassador of Happiness & Quality of Life. Peeters Publishers Borders in Archaeology: Anatolia and the South Caucasus ca. 3500-500 BCE
This volume is devoted to the search for borders in archaeology and takes as a case study the archaeology of Anatolia and the South Caucasus in the Bronze and Iron Ages. Up until the mid-first millennium BCE, these regions differ in interregional and macro-regional interactions, political complexity, economic and mobility strategies, and communication of identities, among which is the use and spread of writing through time. They are united by their representation in ancient sources and modern literature as borderlands. These features represent the core of the discussion developed in the volume. Chapters include theoretical discussion of borders and boundaries, and regional investigations of the Early, Middle and Late Bronze Age (Assyrian colony period, Hittite empire in Anatolia, Kura-Araxes, Trialeti-Vanadzor, Van-Urmia and other traditions in the South Caucasus), the Early Iron Age and Middle Iron Age (Troy, Phrygia, Urartu), until the unification under the Achaemenid Empire. They offer a balanced interplay between site-based investigations and landscape archaeology in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Peeters Publishers Marriage Metaphor and Feminine Imagery in Jer 2:1-4:2: A Diachronic Study Based on the MT and LXX
Jer 2:1-4:2 is a locus classicus of the prophetic marriage metaphor, which describes the turbulent relationship between Israel and her God. The literary form of the Book of Jeremiah preserved in the Septuagint (LXX) invites a new diachronic study of this text. The systematic, comparative study of the LXX and the Hebrew (MT) makes up a substantial part of the present book (ca. 200 pages). The redaction-critical reconstruction follows the literary form thus retrieved. The edition preserved in the MT introduces the marriage metaphor where the earlier text used general feminine imagery, or suggested rather a filial relationship. The inspiration for the revision came from the Books of Hosea and Ezekiel. The interpretations specific to the translator of the LXX do not point to any coherent agenda. The earliest passages clearly applying the marriage metaphor were introduced at the latest stages of the redaction history. Their results demonstrate the growing importance of the marriage metaphor, as well as the ancient editors’ conviction about the unity and interconnection of the books which make up the Bible.

Peeters Publishers Contemporary Sacramental Contours of a God Incarnate
From November 3 to 6, 1999, scholars from various countries gathered in Leuven to participate in the second biannual 'Leuven Encounters in Systematic Theology' (LEST), dealing with 'Sacramental Presence in a Postmodern Context'. The volume consists of two collections of papers presented at this conference. A first part is devoted to Louis-Marie Chauvet's reconstruction of sacramentology. It includes the main lecture given by Chauvet at the Congress, together with related papers offering innovative viewpoints on Chauvet's sacramentology. The second part contains contributions from practical-theological, sacramentological and liturgical perspectives. By focusing upon the differing facets of 'sacramentality', each contribution seeks to explore the 'sacramental contours of a God incarnate' by bringing to light the vital role of 'sacramentality' in theological reflection as well as some of the aporias entailed in doing 'sacramento-theology' in the present postmodern context.
