Elsevier Science Publishing Co Inc Increasing the Durability of Paint and Varnish Coatings in Building Products and Construction
Increasing the Durability of Paint and Varnish Coatings in Building Products and Construction presents data and analysis on regularities in the appearance quality of protective and decorative coatings for building products and structures, also detailing the relationship between the resistance of coatings and the quality of their appearance. Developing a method for ensuring the quality of painted surfaces for building products and developing control methods is an important scientific, technical and economic problem. The conditions needed depend largely on the rheological properties of paint and the processes of wetting and application, with different variables for metal or concrete structures.

Taylor & Francis Inc Functional and Impulsive Differential Equations of Fractional Order: Qualitative Analysis and Applications
The book presents qualitative results for different classes of fractional equations, including fractional functional differential equations, fractional impulsive differential equations, and fractional impulsive functional differential equations, which have not been covered by other books. It manifests different constructive methods by demonstrating how these techniques can be applied to investigate qualitative properties of the solutions of fractional systems. Since many applications have been included, the demonstrated techniques and models can be used in training students in mathematical modeling and in the study and development of fractional-order models.

Monty feels like the black sheep in her family. A middle child of many in a religious household, she has never felt like she fits in – she is not as attractive as her sisters, is not popular in school, and has differing world views from everyone else. From more chores to stricter house rules, even her own parents treat her like the odd one out. Her only respite in this dull town is spending time with her friends and going for drives on her four-wheeler. However, this is all soon to change, as she will begin to uncover secrets about her family, the church, and those closest to her that will alter her life and view of her small town. Will she be able to help? Will her family come out the other end unscathed? Or will nothing ever be the same again…? A disturbing, gripping thriller, Under The Elm is a story that explores the true nature of humanity, and just how dark family secrets really can be.

Amis du Centre d'histoire et de civilisation de Byzance "Pearls before Swine": Missionary Work in Byzantium
Not a single contemporary Byzantine source mentions the Christianization of Ethiopia in the fifth century, the Byzantine attempts to convert Persia at the end of the sixth, the creation of the Slavic alphabet in the ninth, or the baptism of Rus' in the tenth. These great achievements of Eastern Christianity left the Byzantines themselves perfectly indifferent. Byzantium produced a number of ardent and committed missionaries, but much more visible were the Greek intellectuals who believed that it was easier "to whitewash and Ethiopian" than to Christianize a barbarian. When Leo V acquainted the pagan Bulgars with the Christian sacraments, Theophanes Continuatus castigated him for "casting the pearls of faith before the swine". In the end, the missionary zeal of a few enthusiasts lost out to the haughty isolationism of Empire. "Pearls before the Swine" focuses on the complex relationship between the Christian pledge to "teach all nations" and Greek cultural snobbery.

Oxford University Press Cosmos and Materiality in Early Modern Prague
Prague in the seventeenth century is known as home to a scintillating imperial court crammed with exotic goods, scientists, and artisans, receiving ambassadors from Persia, and also as a city suffering plagues, riots, and devastating military attacks. But Prague was also the setting for a complex and shifting spiritual world. At the beginning of the century it was a multiconfessional city, but by 1700 it represented one of the most archetypical Catholic cities in Europe. Through a material approach, Cosmos and Materiality pieces together how early modern men and women experienced this transformation on a daily basis. Cosmos and Materiality in Early Modern Prague presents a bold alternative understanding of the history of early modern religion in Central Europe. The history of religion in the early modern period has overwhelmingly been analysed through a confessional lens, but this book shows how Prague's spiritual worlds were embedded in their natural environment and social relations as much if not more than in confessional identity in the seventeenth century. While texts in this period trace emerging discourses around notions of religion, superstition, magic, and what it was to be Catholic or Protestant, a material approach avoids these category mistakes being applied to everyday practice. It is through a rich seam of material evidence in Prague - spoons, glass beakers, and amulets as much as traditional devotional objects like rosaries and garnet encrusted crucifixes - that everyday beliefs, practices, and identities can be recovered.

Archaeopress Interdisciplinary Research into Iron Metallurgy along the Drava River in Croatia: The TransFER Project
Interdisciplinary Research into Iron Metallurgy along the Drava River in Croatia – The TransFER Project presents the results of the scientific project ‘Production of Iron Along the Drava River During Antiquity and Middle Ages: Creation and Transfer of Knowledge, Technology and Commodities - TransFER project (IP – 2016 - 06 - 5047)’ funded by the Croatian Science Foundation. The research presented explores the evidence for and nature of iron production in the lowland area of the central Drava River basin in Croatia during late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages, from the turn of the 4th to the early 9th centuries. The wide-ranging methodology of the project features non-destructive archaeological site identification (surface survey and geophysics), archaeological excavation of sites with attested bloomery iron production and processing along with their associated dwelling and settlement structures, as well as experimental archaeology. The record of bloomery iron production and processing is explored via an interdisciplinary approach which examines the technology used as well as the natural resources (bog iron ores, wood and plant remains) exploited in the production process. The results of the research testify to the importance and longevity of iron production in the area of the Drava river valley.
