Open University Press Handbook of Health Research Methods: Investigation, Measurement and Analysis
"an ideal set text" Angela Scriven, Course Leader, Brunel University Which research method should I use to evaluate services? How do I design a questionnaire? How do I conduct a systematic review of research? This handbook helps researchers to plan, carry out, and analyse health research, and evaluate the quality of research studies. The book takes a multidisciplinary approach to enable researchers from different disciplines to work side-by-side in the investigation of population health, the evaluation of health care, and in health care delivery. Handbook of Health Research Methods is an essential tool for researchers and postgraduate students taking masters courses, or undertaking doctoral programmes, in health services evaluation, health sciences, health management, public health, nursing, sociology, socio-biology, medicine and epidemiology. However, the book also appeals to health professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge of research methods in order to make effective policy and practice decisions.Contributors: Joy Adamson, Geraldine Barrett, Jane P. Open University Press Special Teaching for Special Children? Pedagogies for Inclusion
"I recommend this book as an important contribution to the debate on pedagogy in special education. It is largely well written and informative and rich with ideas and opinions."Educational ReviewWhat, if anything, is ‘special’ about teaching children with special or exceptional learning needs? This book addresses this question, looking at pupils’ special learning needs including low attainment, learning difficulties, language difficulties, emotional and behavioural problems and sensory needs. Some special needs groups (for example dyslexia) have argued strongly for the need for particular specialist approaches. In contrast, many proponents of inclusion have argued that ‘good teaching is good teaching for all’ and that all children benefit from similar approaches. Both positions fail to scrutinise this issue rigorously and coherently, and it is this aspect which distinguishes this book. Leading researchers in each special needs field defend and critique a conceptual analysis of teaching strategies used with particular learner groups with special educational needs. Summaries by the editors after each chapter link pedagogic strategies, knowledge and curriculum to key points from the chapter and pave the way for discussion. This book is indispensable reading for students, policy makers, researchers and professionals in the field of special educational needs and inclusion. Shortlisted for the TES / NASEN Book Awards 2005

Europa Editions (UK) Ltd The Story of a New Name
OVER 14M OF THE NEAPOLITAN QUARTET SOLD WORLDWIDE The Story of a New Name, the second book of the Neapolitan Quartet, picks up the story where My Brilliant Friend left off. Lila has recently married and made her entrée into the family business; Elena, meanwhile, continues her studies and her exploration of the world beyond the neighbourhood that she so often finds stifling. Love, jealousy, family, freedom, commitment, and above all friendship: these are signs under which both women live out this phase in their stories. Marriage appears to have imprisoned Lila, and the pressure to excel is at times too much for Elena. Yet the two young women share a complex and evolving bond that is central to their emotional lives and is a source of strength in the face of life’s challenges. In the Neapolitan Quartet, Elena Ferrante gives readers a poignant and universal story about friendship and belonging.

Museum of Modern Art Jasper Johns: Regrets
In June 2012, Jasper Johns encountered a photograph of the painter Lucian Freud reproduced in a Christie’s auction catalogue. Inspired not only by the photographic image, but also by the physical qualities of the object itself, Johns took this motif through a succession of cross-medium permutations. He also incorporated into his art the text of a rubber stamp he had made several years ago, to allow him to efficiently decline the myriad requests and invitations that come his way: ‘Regrets/Jasper Johns’. But the stamp’s text also calls to mind the more familiar connotations of regret, such as loss, disappointment, and remorse, invoking an enigmatic sense of melancholy. Published in conjunction with an exhibition of this recent series of paintings, drawings and prints, created over the last year and a half through an intricate combination of techniques, this publication presents each of the sixteen new works in full colour. An essay by Ann Temkin, Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture, and Christophe Cherix, Chief Curator of Drawings and Prints, MoMA, examine the importance of process and experimentation, the cycle of dead ends and fresh starts, and the incessant interplay of materials, meaning, and representation so characteristic of Johns’s career over the last sixty years.

Amazon Publishing A Decent Family: A Novel
For fans of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan series comes a captivating family saga focused on a willful young woman’s struggles against her oppressive small town by acclaimed Italian author Rosa Ventrella. In old Bari, everyone knows Maria De Santis as “Malacarne,” the bad seed. Nicknamed for her dark features, volcanic temperament, and resistance to rules, the headstrong girl can only imagine the possibilities that lie outside her poverty-stricken neighborhood. Growing up with her mother, two brothers, and a tyrannical father, Maria must abide. She does—amid the squalid life to which she was born, the cruelties of her small-minded neighbors, and violence in a constant threat of eruption. As she reconciles her need for escape with the allegiance she feels toward her family, Maria has her salvations: her secret friend, Michele, son of a rival family and every bit the outsider she is, and her passion for books, which may someday take her far, far away. In this exquisitely rendered and sensory-rich novel, Rosa Ventrella explores the limits of loyalty, the redeeming power of friendship and love, and the fire in the soul of one woman who was born to break free.

Collective Ink Ripple of Awakening, The: A Mighty Companion on the Spiritual Awakening Journey
The book is about a spiritual awakening, what that means and looks like from the human perspective. It explores the highs, the lows, the commonalities, the phases and the stages and ways in which the reader can support themselves. It is real, raw, authentic, at times funny, certainly inspiring and full of hope. Ann-Marie takes the reader’s hand and walks them step-by-step through the stages of their own healing journey and offers ways that can inspire them, with practical suggestions and practices such as prayer, meditation, self-enquiry, self-care, self-expression, forgiveness and inner-child healing. At the heart of the book is a flushing out of the reader’s relationship, or lack of relationship, with God. Ann-Marie reveals how she went from a complete non-believer and came to eventually work for the big guy upstairs, being guided to become a multi-faith minister. She endeavours to de-funk the ego’s construct of God and inspire the reader to wake up to the love, peace, guidance and joy that is waiting for them through their connection with the God of their own understanding.
