Keratoconus is degeneration of the structure of the cornea. The cornea is the clear tissue covering the front of the eye. In keratoconus, the shape of the cornea slowly changes from round to conical (PubMed Health). In the early stages, keratoconus can be corrected with the use of lenses, but in the later stages, surgery is the only option. This volume is the result of a conference held at the University of California, Irvine, on the topics that provide its title -- choice, decision, and measurement. The conference was planned, and the volume prepared, in honor of Professor R. Duncan Luce on his 70th birthday. Following a short autobiographical statement by Luce, the volume is organized into four topics, to each of which Luce has made significant contributions. The book provides an overview of current issues in each area and presents some of the best recent theoretical and empirical work. Personal reflections on Luce and his work begin each section. These reflections were written by outstanding senior researchers: Peter Fishburn (Preference and Decision Making), Patrick Suppes (Measurement Theory and Axiomatic Systems), William J. McGill (Psychophysics and Reaction Time), and W.K. Estes (Choice, Identification and Categorization). The first section presents recent theoretical and empirical work on descriptive models of decision making, and theoretical results on general probabilistic models of choice and ranking. Luce's recent theoretical and empirical work on rank- and sign-dependent utility theory is important in many of these contributions. In Pakistan, religious talk shows emerged as a popular television genre following the 2002 media liberalization reforms. Since then, these shows have become important platforms where ideas about Islam and religious authority in Pakistan are developed and argued. In Religious Television and Pious Authority in Pakistan, Taha Kazi reveals how these talk shows mediate changes in power, belief, and practice. She also identifies the sacrifices and compromises that religious scholars feel compelled to make in order to ensure their presence on television. These scholars, of varying doctrinal and educational backgrounds—including madrasa-educated scholars and self-taught celebrity preachers—are given screen time to debate and issue religious edicts on the authenticity and contemporary application of Islamic concepts and practices. In response, viewers are sometimes allowed to call in live with questions. Kazi maintains that these featured debates inspire viewers to reevaluate the status of scholarly edicts, thereby fragmenting religious authority. Aber wer sich dieses Instruments bedient, löst weitere Veränderungen aus: Die neue Perspektive wird das eigene Planen und damit die Gemeinde verändern - und damit auch die Kirche.Kirchliche Praxis zeigt sich in den Gottesdiensten und anderen Zugängen zum Glauben, in der Medienarbeit, der Werbung, dem Ehrenamt und dem Wunsch nach Beteiligung in der Kirche. Due to his prolific writings and his political activities, Schlözer was a well-known personality in the late 18th century both at home and beyond the borders of the Holy Roman Empire. He represented a type of scientist who concentrated on strict research into cultural-historical relationships and on collecting the respective data. He could at times be difficult to get along with, with his undiplomatic manners, although the directness of his approach also won him many admirers. Many pinned their hopes on him and enjoyed the criticism he expressed. Yet, surprising enough, his influence did not extend beyond the revolutionary year 1789. Landing squarely in the middle of the tensions he eventually withdrew from public life.
