Where church and civil society cooperate with each other, the church changes on an organizational, institutional, interactive and staging level. These changes are presented, classified and analyzed in a conversation with the social theories of Zygmunt Bauman and Ulrich Beck, current concepts on civil society and church theory. At the same time, social spaces can also be changed if the church and other civil society actors move together towards their neighborhood. This is impressively demonstrated by the community diaconia and the Fresh Expressions of Church. This is the first extensive study of William Amess (1576-1633) Latin polemical writings against Arminianism during his exile in the Dutch Republic. Through these writings, Ames quickly established himself as a champion of Reformed orthodoxy. This reputation led him to be appointed as a theological advisor to the president of the Synod of Dort (1618-9) and then to be nominated for the newly established chair of practical theology at Leiden University. The Dutch Reformed theologian who compiled Amess Latin works believed that Ames was indeed a precious gift from England. By exploring Amess significant but neglected Latin corpus, this book uncovers Amess theological contributions to the central issues of the Arminian controversy. It provides a corrective to current readings of Amess theology by highlighting the links between his polemical writings and his better-known work, The Marrow of Theology. Ames was not, as previous scholarship has suggested, making a compromise or softening Reformed thought by finding a needed corrective in Arminianism. Instead, he was steadfastly defending the Reformed tradition against the threat of Arminianism without being blind to new philosophical and exegetical challenges. By exploring the medieval scholastic background behind his key arguments, this book also addresses the recent scholarly debate about the medieval roots of early modern Reformed thought. It shows that, by combining Thomistic ideas of physical premotion with Scotistic metaphysics of contingency, Ames trod a path which many other Reformed theologians would follow.

The commentary of Thomas Aquinas on the Gospel of John is a masterpiece of Christian exegesis. According to Otto Hermann Pesch, who translated and edited several volumes of the German edition of Thomas Aquinas, this commentary immediately preceded his development of Christology in the Summa Theologiae and represents Thomas at the pinnacle of his exegetic skills. His take on the Gospel begins with a systematic ordering of what the Evangelist intended and how he went about realising it. Based on this framework he then provides the various interpretations, for example, factual-historical ones concerning aspects of the Jewish religion and everyday life, the topography of the Holy Land, the meaning of certain names of towns and persons or the chronology of the events in the life of Christ. Thomas always attempts to find explanations for the differences present in the other Gospels. Further, especially in the first 11 lectiones, he refers to Aristotle and many questions with philosophical implications (for example, of the meaning of the term "word" - logos). Next, Thomas relates the verse from the Gospel in question to other Biblical and non-Biblical texts. He also devotes much effort to the disputes going on with the heresies, which he attempts to refute by showing the contradiction in their arguments with the Bible.

Enactive trauma therapy is grounded in so-called enactivism, which holds that, like anyone else, traumatized individuals are (1) embrained, embodied, and environmentally embedded; (2) constitute biopsychological organism-environment systems that are essentially interested in preserving their existence; (3) are primarily affective and oriented toward making sense of things. Individuals exhibit a phenomenal self, world, and self-of-the-world through self- and world-oriented actions. They do not act on the basis of knowledge, but possess knowledge on the basis of world-engaged sensorimotor, affect-laden, and goal-oriented actions. Whenever interpersonal traumatization by significant others occurs, individuals may get caught up in affective and relational conflicts they cannot resolve on their own. Their generation and maintenance of a trauma-related dissociation of the personality involves a kind of sense-making that supports their continued existence when their capacity to integrate traumatic experiences is still too low. However, what starts as a courageous effort to navigate a traumatizing life may at some point in time become a serious problem. Enactive trauma therapy comprises the collaboration of two organism-environment systems: the patient and the therapist. Together they spawn new meaning and adequate actions an interaction that resembles dancing: It takes pacing, mutual attunement, good timing, a sensitivity to balance, movement and rhythm, courage, as well as the ability and willingness to follow and lead.

The shape of today's landscape has been heavily influenced by human intervention since the 19th century. Changes in agriculture, industrialization and state spatial planning promoted the change in land use. The ideal-typical separation between "destroyed" and "healty" nature eventually led to the protection of certain landscapes that had not yet been fully developed. Migration movements promoted this landscape change. In Central and Eastern Europe, the consequences of emigration and urbanization overlapped with the profound break of compulsory migrations during the Second World War and immediately thereafter. As a result of this, as well as through structural policy in the countries of state socialism after 1945, many areas of this region changed fundamentally. The authors of the publication are examining in an exemplary way how migration has led to landscape changes in Eastern Europe. Besides state landscape planning in the context of controlled migrations, it is also about the role of migrants and their dealings with landscape. The volume is closed by three contributions, in which interpretations and forms of presentation of landscape change in textbooks and on educational trails are analyzed.

In his "World History of the Jewish People", which appeared in German for the first time between 1925 and 1929, the Russian-Jewish historian Simon Dubnow presented the narrative of a shared Jewish past. In contrast to previous representations, he no longer tried to justify this religiously, but secularly. The focus was not on a modern nation-state, but on a diasporic way of life, not a limited community, but a transterritorial minority. With Dubnow's diaspora nationalism, Anke Hilbrenner presents a previously little-known alternative to conventional national histories. The study views the history of St. Petersburg and Moscow Jews as a long-term process of geographical and cultural mobility. Particular attention is paid to modifying and maintaining traditional church structures and values. Yvonne Kleinmann examines Jewish social structures, forms of organization and religious articulations in the context of the legal status of Jews on central Russian territory. However, the extreme right usually fails in elections. It can also currently be observed that for the right wing party, the NPD, which is currently to be assessed as the strongest, success and failure are close to one another. The party celebrated entries into the state parliament in Saxony (2004) and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (2006) were followed by sobering defeats, e.g. in Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia (both in 2005) or in Hesse and Lower Saxony (both in 2008).
