This volume compiles contributions from international scholars on the social impacts of urban mobility and discussions on concepts and methods to examine the distributional effects of transport policies in Latin America. Desde su nacimiento en la Sierra de Cazorla hasta su desembocadura en el océano Atlántico, el río Guadalquivir ha sido a lo largo de la Historia un factor identitario de las comunidades asentadas en torno a él. Los recursos proporcionados por el propio río, sus afluentes y su extenso valle han contribuido a la supervivencia, bienestar y desarrollo de diferentes culturas. Fruto de esta relación entre el hombre y el territorio se han ido generando diversos paisajes culturales. No obstante, la situación política, económica y sanitaria de los últimos años ha provocado que la sostenibilidad de algunos de ellos se vea amenazada, al igual que sus bienes patrimoniales, condenados en muchos casos al abandono y el olvido. La presente monografía surge con el objetivo de reflexionar sobre esta compleja situación desde múltiples perspectivas, incluyendo la arqueología, el medio natural, la didáctica, las nuevas tecnologías y el turismo. Para ello hemos contado con la colaboración de reputados profesionales e investigadores procedentes de diversos ámbitos académicos. Essays shedding fresh and significant light on Gower's poetry, major and minor, as it was received, read, and re-produced in England and in Iberia from the fourteenth to the twentieth centuries. John Gower's great poem, the Confessio Amantis, was the first work of English literature translated into any European language. Occasioned by the existence in Spain of fifteenth-century Portuguese and Spanish manuscripts ofthe Confessio, the nineteen essays brought together here represent new and original approaches to Gower's role in Anglo-Iberian literary relations. They include major studies of the palaeography of the Iberian manuscripts;of the ownership history of the Portuguese Confessio manuscript; of the glosses of Gowerian manuscripts; and of the manuscript of the Yale Confessio Amantis. Other essays situate the translations amidst Anglo-Spanish relations generally in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries; examine possible Spanish influences on Gower's writing; and speculate on possible providers of the Confessio to Philippa, daughter of John of Gaunt and queenof Portugal. Further chapters broaden the scope of the volume. As the distinction between domestic and international is increasingly blurred along with the line between internal and external borders, migrants—particularly people of color—have become emblematic of the hybrid threat both to national security and sovereignty and to safety and order inside the state. From building walls and fences, overcrowding detention facilities, and beefing up border policing and border controls, a new narrative has arrived that has migrants assume the risk for government-sponsored degradation, misery, and death. Crimmigrant Nations examines the parallel rise of anti-immigrant sentiment and right-wing populism in both the United States and Europe to offer an unprecedented look at this issue on an international level. Beginning with the fears and concerns of immigration that predate the election of Trump, the Brexit vote, and the signing and implementation of the Schengen Agreement, Crimmigrant Nations critically analyzes nationalist state policies in countries that have criminalized migrants and categorized them as threats to national security. Winner of the 2018 Association for the Study of Higher Education Outstanding Book Award​Technology and Engagement is based on a four-year study of how first generation college students use social media, aimed at improving their transition to and engagement with their university. Through web technology, including social media sites, students were better able to maintain close ties with family and friends from home, as well as engage more with social and academic programs at their university. This ‘ecology of transition’ was important in keeping the students focused on why they were in college, and helped them become more integrated into the university setting. By showing the gains in campus capital these first-generation college students obtained through social media, the authors offer concrete suggestions for how other universities and college-retention programs can utilize the findings to increase their own retention of first-generation college students.
