Die psychoanalytisch-psychodynamisch orientierte Psychosentherapie wird in den letzten Jahren immer häufiger und mit Erfolg angewendet. Auch von Patientenseite wird sie vielfach gern in Anspruch genommen. Darauf reagieren inzwischen die Krankenkassen, die solche Behandlungen in ihren Leistungskatalog aufnehmen. Dazu im Kontrast stehen heftige Widerstände und offene Ablehnung besonders durch eine biologistisch ausgerichtete Psychiatrie und Psychologie. Diese Haltung wird durch einen zeitgemäßen Ökonomismus gestützt. Aber auch die institutionalisierte Psychoanalyse zeigt sich gegenüber einer solchen Therapie zurückhaltend und zögerlich. Die Gründe dafür sind vielfältig und kaum systematisch untersucht worden. Es könnte sich zum Teil um Unkenntnis der theoretischen Voraussetzungen wie auch den Mangel an praktischen Erfahrungen handeln. Auch Ängste der Behandler vor einer Infizierung durch die gravierende psychotische Symptomatik könnten eine Rolle spielen. In diesem Band analysieren Therapeuten mit positiven Erfahrungen in der psychoanalytischen Psychosentherapie die Gründe für derartige Widerstände und wollen damit zu deren Überwindung beitragen.

Das Novum besteht darin, die differenzierte Erfassung der Christologie im Johannesevangelium mittels der motivgeschichtlichen Ausrichtung auf das hellenistisch-römische Herrscherideal als Vergleichspunkt für den König Jesus zu leisten. Mehrings Werk ist daher als ein Beitrag zur Erschließung der christologischen Konzeption des Johannesevangeliums einzuordnen.
