Bloomsbury Publishing PLC Neaptide
“Neaptide races from domestic trauma to staff-room banter … it bursts with provocative ideas and disturbing questions about human relationships. Most important, it shows that the facade of liberalism and emancipation is merely a translucent gloss.” Jewish Chronicle Claire is a history teacher at a local school where two teenage girls have come out. Their principal, Bea Grimble, is none too impressed, and aims to have them expelled. Claire, who had been hiding the fact that she is homosexual, speaks up on behalf of the girls: this in spite of the fact that she is fighting her ex-husband Lawrence for custody of their daughter, the precocious and happy Poppy. All around Claire hardened attitudes are challenged – and confirmed – as she must decide whether to try to maintain a position of honesty, and battle hypocrisy, from within the bounds of the law, or without. A modern story of custody battles, sexual identity and gender politics, framed around the ancient myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone. Neaptide was the winner of the 1982 George Devine Award and became the first play by a living female writer to be performed at the National Theatre, London, in 1986. This Modern Classics edition feature a new introduction by Dr Carina Bartleet.

Edinburgh University Press Far-Flung Families in Film: The Diasporic Family in Contemporary European Cinema
This is an in-depth critical exploration of cinematic representations of the family in transnational cinema. In the age of globalisation, diasporic and other types of transnational family are increasingly represented across the film spectrum in works such as Bend It Like Beckham, The Namesake, Boys 'n the Hood, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (The Brave Heart Will Take the Bride) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. While there is a significant body of scholarship on the representation of the family in Hollywood cinema, an analysis of the depiction of the diasporic family in cinema from a comparative transnational angle has yet to be attempted. Far-Flung Families in Film fills this gap and provides an essential resource for academics and researchers with an interest in cinematic representations of the family and transnational cinema. The work will answer the following key questions: Why is diasporic cinema characterised by a preponderance of family narratives?; How does the diasporic family as constructed in cinema relate to or differ from models of family life in dominant social groups?; What role does authorship play in the depiction of the diasporic family?; How does diasporic cinema negotiate the aesthetic and generic conventions of film genres commonly associated with the representation of the family?. It takes a theme-centred approach, examining journeys of migration, family memories, gender identities, romance and weddings. It includes 15 detailed case studies of diasporic family films.

Today, the real economy has become completely divorced from the financial market. The market itself, flooded with money and protected from failure by Central Banks, has selfishly boomed. But in the real economy, commercial banks have effectively pulled up the drawbridge on their traditional banking activities, including lending to consumers and SMEs, with devastating social consequences.Fintech is rapidly emerging to fill this gap. Fintech lending platforms, Blockchain, DLTs, Advanced AI analytics and automation are converging to create new capabilities and transform financial services. Embedded finance is already allowing businesses to manage and sell innovative products, seamlessly integrating creative forms of payment, debit, credit, insurance and investment into their end-user experience, while tokenisation on the blockchain allows for the conversion of real-world assets into digital tokens, democratising wealth creation and management.InThe Future of Finance

Nova Science Publishers Inc Transportation: Congressional Issues, Financing and Improvements
The nation's air, land, and marine transportation systems are designed for accessibility and efficiency, two characteristics that make them vulnerable to attack. The focus of chapter 1 is how best to implement and finance a system of deterrence, protection, and response that effectively reduces the possibility and consequences of terrorist attacks without unduly interfering with travel, commerce, and civil liberties. Almost every conversation about surface transportation finance begins with a two-part question: What are the "needs" of the national transportation system, and how does the nation pay for them? Chapter 2 is aimed almost entirely at discussing the "how to pay for them" question. On 4 December 2015, President Barack Obama signed the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act; P.L. 114-94). As reported in chapter 3, the act authorised spending on federal highway and public transportation programs, surface transportation safety and research activities, and rail programs for five years to 30 September 2020. Despite significant investments in public transportation at the federal, state, and local levels, transit ridership has fallen in many of the top 50 transit markets. If strong gains in the New York area are excluded, ridership nationally declined by 7% over the past decade. Chapter 4 examines the implications for federal transit policy of the current weakness and possible future changes in transit ridership. Congress created the Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF) program to offer long-term, low-cost loans to railroad operators, with particular attention to small freight railroads, to help them finance improvements to infrastructure and investments in equipment. This program is discussed in chapter 5. The Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) carry out different approaches to rail safety oversight. FRA has a more centralised safety oversight program for railroads, while FTA's program for oversight of rail transit safety largely relies on state safety agencies to monitor and enforce rail transit safety, as established in federal statute. Chapter 6 examines (1) key characteristics of FRA's and FTA's rail safety oversight programs and (2) strengths and limitations of FRA's and FTA's rail safety oversight programs. Research sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has identified driver behaviour as the main cause of highway-rail grade crossing crashes and that factors such as train and traffic volume can contribute to the risk of a crash. Chapter 7 examines: (1) the focus of FRA's grade-crossing-safety research, (2) how states select and implement grade-crossing projects and what data are available from FRA to inform their decisions, and (3) the challenges states reported in implementing and assessing projects and the extent to which FHWA assesses the program's effectiveness.
