To preserve public vaccine policy, Dr. Paul Thomas was disbarred and discredited—discover how he was punished for pursuing the truth for his patients.On December 3, 2020, the Oregon Medical Board issued an emergency order to suspend the license of renowned physician Paul Thomas, MD. The ostensible reason was that Dr. Thomas posed a threat to public health by failing to vaccinate his pediatric patients according to the CDC’s schedule. However, the order came just days after Thomas published a peer-reviewed study indicating that his unvaccinated patients were the healthiest children in his practice. The medical board ignored this data despite having requested Thomas to produce peer-reviewed evidence to support his alternative approach.'Dr. Paul' started out practicing medicine the way he was trained to, which meant vaccinating according to the CDC’s routine childhood vaccine schedule. But then he went on a journey of awakening, becoming what he calls “vaccine risk aware,” and arrived at a place where no longer in good conscience could he continue “business as usual” with this one-size-fits-all approach. He left a private group practice to open his own clinic with the foundational principles of individualised care and respect for the right to informed consent. He wrote the Vaccine-Friendly Plan with Jennifer Margulis, PhD, to help parents navigate the decision-making process. Today, John Deere is remembered—some say mistakenly—as the inventor of the steel plow. Who was this legendary man and how did he create the internationally renowned company that still bears his name? He began as a debt-stricken blacksmith who, fleeing debt in New England in the 1830s, set up shop in a little town on the Illinois frontier. There, in response to farmers' struggles, he designed a new plow that cut through the impervious prairie sod and lay open the rich, heavy soil for planting. The demand for his polished steel plow convinced him to specialize in farm implements. In the decades before the Civil War, John Deere envisioned a company supplying midwestern farmers with reliable, affordable equipment. He used only high quality, imported steel and resisted pressure to raise prices. At the same time, he won respectful affection from his employees by working alongside them on the shop floor. Upon taking the helm in the 1860s, John's only surviving son, Charles, expanded the Moline factories to increase production, started branch houses in major midwestern cities to speed distribution, and began to transform the company into a modern corporation. The transformation didn't come without difficulties however: Charles found himself battling the Grange, facing threats of labor unions and strikes led by his own employees, and enduring patent suits and blatant thefts of product designs and advertising.

New sculptures and installations that critically examine the formal, social and linguistic roles of live models Over the past three decades, Iranian-born, German-based artist Nairy Baghramian (born 1971) has created sculptures and installations that upend expected modes of presentation and challenge the architectural, social, political and historical contexts that inform them. The new works featured in this publication explore the provisional body as the site of trauma—drawing inspiration from the tradition of the “modèle vivant,” the French term for a live model in an art class. In her "ambivalently abstract" works, the artist takes unconventional approaches to materials associated with sculptural traditions of casting, including aluminum, lead, steel and wax. In conversation with sculptures from the Nasher’s permanent collection by Louise Bourgeois, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and others, Baghramian’s works offer new ways to think about representations of bodies and the unseen labor of models, as well as the linguistic play afforded by different meanings of the word “model” and its linguistic relatives, such as “modulate” and “modify.”

A revisionist look at the true state of rural England between the two world wars. England is the country, and the country is England, as Stanley Baldwin famously said in 1924, but what kind of country was it? There are persistent memories of depression and depopulation, of dilapidated villages and deserted country houses, in a period of bitter discontent and disturbance when the brief febrile excitements of the 1920s gave way to the thirties, Auden's "low dishonest decade". Recent work has radically modified the history of the interwar years, but largely from an urban and industrial viewpoint. Hitherto this revisionist perspective has left unquestioned one of the central components of the old orthodoxy: that this was a period of unremitting, unmitigated decline in the countryside. In The English Countryside Between the Wars an interdisciplinary group of scholars have come together to challenge this view.
