James Clarke & Co Ltd Words of Christ: Forty Meditations
Whether he is reflecting on the horrors of the bus queue, the heartache of loneliness or a rose in a bottle, Frank Topping succeeds in helping us all see what we so easily miss. The same is true when he turns to the words of Jesus."It seemed as if this had been written specially for me," That was the most frequently repeated phrase when listeners to Radio 2 wrote to the BBC asking for a copy of the script of Frank Topping's morning meditations on Pause for Thought. "What made me decide to broadcast them regularly," says Frank, "was the huge response from listeners - literally thousands."In the Frank Topping series, the Lutterworth Press has published many of his most popular radio meditations. These collections of thoughts and prayers remain a pleasure to use and also a handy reference for those who want to find their favourite meditation."

James Clarke & Co Ltd Working at Prayer
Frank Topping says "I have no pretensions about being any kind of spiritual authority. I simply hope that my own experience may be of some help to those struggling along the same path." But judging by the popularity of his broadcasts and books, what he has to say will help many people in their search for a closer relationship with God through prayer."It seemed as if this had been written specially for me," That was the most frequently repeated phrase when listeners to Radio 2 wrote to the BBC asking for a copy of the script of Frank Topping's morning meditations on Pause for Thought. "What made me decide to broadcast them regularly," says Frank, "was the huge response from listeners - literally thousands."In the Frank Topping series, the Lutterworth Press has published many of his most popular radio meditations. James Clarke & Co Ltd The Supernatural in the New Testament
When people read the New Testament they are sometimes puzzled by the supernatural stories: miracles of healing, storms that are stilled, poisonous snakes with no effect and a wily Satan who engages in direct temptation. Some have no difficulty with such stories. This is the world of the Bible and the reader must expect such like. Those who cannot believe that have either abandoned the Bible and its world altogether or else they have devised ways of explaining (or explaining away!) events that puzzle them. Bruce Kaye seeks to avoid both extremes. Instead of asking what happened and how it happened he chooses instead to ask what it meant. Why did the early church relate and record these tales? And what did they mean? What did they say about God? So the reader begins to see that beyond the stories themselves there is truth about God and his world for every generation. Teachers will find useful lesson materials here, discussion group leaders will find something to start folk talking, and preachers will find a new approach to familiar passages. A companion volume, The Supernatural in the Old Testament by John Rogerson, is also published by the Lutterworth Press.

Taylor & Francis Ltd Studies in the Transmission of Wyclif's Writings
Wyclif's ideas caused a major upheaval both in the country of his birth and in the Bohemian area of central Europe; that upheaval affected theological, ecclesiastical and political developments from the late 14th to the early 16th centuries. Some of those ideas were transmitted orally through Wyclif's university teaching in Oxford, and in his preaching in London and Lutterworth, but the main medium through which his message was disseminated was the written word, using the universal western language of Latin. The papers in this collection look at aspects of that dissemination, from the organization and revision of Wyclif's works to form a summa of his ideas, the techniques devised to identify and make accessible his multifarious writings, the attempts of the orthodox clerical establishment to destroy them, through to the fortunes of his texts in the Reformation period; manuscripts written in England and those copied abroad, mostly in Bohemia, are considered. Although most of the papers have been published previously, a new edition of the important Hussite catalogue of Wyclif's writings is provided, and three lengthy sections contribute new material and additions and corrections to previous listings of Wyclif manuscripts.

James Clarke & Co Ltd The Supernatural in the Old Testament
When people read the Old Testament they are sometimes puzzled by the supernatural stories: animals that talk, jars of oil that are never empty, dead people restored to life, seas that divide and rivers that dry up. Some have no difficulty with such stories. This is the world of the Bible and the reader must expect such like. Those who cannot believe that have either abandoned the Bible and its world altogether or else they have devised ways of explaining (or explaining away!) events that puzzle them. John Rogerson does neither. Instead of asking what happened and how it happened he chooses instead to ask what it meant. Why did the early church relate and record these tales? And what did they mean? What did they say about God? So the reader begins to see that beyond the stories themselves there is truth about God and his world for every generation.
