_______________ 'Surreal and unsettling' - Observer Cultural Highlight ‘Wise, comical and exceptionally relatable’ - Zeba Talkhani ‘Quietly hilarious and deeply attuned to the uncanny rhythms and deadpan absurdity of the daily grind’ - Sharlene Teo _______________ A woman walks into an employment agency and requests a job that requires no reading, no writing – and ideally, very little thinking. She is sent to an office building where she is tasked with watching the hidden-camera feed of an author suspected of storing contraband goods. But observing someone for hours on end isn't so easy. How will she stay awake? When can she take delivery of her favourite brand of tea? And, perhaps more importantly – how did she find herself in this situation in the first place? As she moves from job to job, writing bus adverts for shops that mysteriously disappear, and composing advice for rice cracker wrappers that generate thousands of devoted followers, it becomes increasingly apparent that she’s not searching for the easiest job at all, but something altogether more meaningful... _______________ ‘An irreverent but thoughtful voice, with light echoes of Haruki Murakami ... the book is uncannily timely ... a novel as smart as is quietly funny' - Financial Times 'Polly Barton’s translation skilfully captures the protagonist’s dejected, anxious voice and her deadpan humour ... imaginative and unusual' - Times Literary Supplement

Granary Books Joe Brainard: I Remember
The American artist's much-imitated memoir, described by Paul Auster as "one of the few totally original books I have ever read.” Joe Brainard's I Remember is a literary and artistic cult classic, praised and admired by writers from Paul Auster to John Ashery and Edmund White. As autobiography, Brainard's method was brilliantly simple: to set down specific memories as they rose to the surface of his consciousness, each prefaced by the refrain "I remember": "I remember when I thought that if you did anything bad, policemen would put you in jail." Brainard's enduring gem of a book has been issued in various forms over the past thirty years. In 1970, Angel Hair books published the first edition of I Remember, which quickly sold out; he wrote two subsequent volumes for Angel Hair, More I Remember (1972) and More I Remember More (1973), both of which proved as popular as the original. In 1973, the Museum of Modern Art in New York published Brainard's I Remember Christmas, a new text for which he also contributed a cover design and four drawings. Excerpts from the Angel Hair editions appeared in Interview, Gay Sunshine, The World and the New York Herald. Then in 1975, Full Court Press issued a revised version collecting all three of the Angel Hair volumes and added new material, using the original title I Remember. This complete edition is prefaced by poet and translator Ron Padgett.

Fantagraphics A Doorway to Joe
Joe Coleman paints incredibly detailed portraits of sinners, saints, freaks, and personal friends that collectively present a dark history of America. Painting with a single-hair brush and a jeweller''s loupe, the artist states he only knows when the painting is done because he runs out of room on the canvas. With a body of work that spans five decades (including his early work as a comic book artist), Coleman''s work includes subjects such as Hank Williams, Ed Gein, Jayne Mansfield, and his wife and muse, Whitney Ward. Coleman not only captures his subject''s likeness, but his portraits also serve as ambitious narratives of the subject''s life. Told in lozenges scattered throughout the often-larger-than-life works, the portraits contain scenes from the subject''s life and words and phrases. Coleman is not afraid to explore the dark reaches of the human psyche, but also portrays a distinct humanity in his subjects and often includes a touch of humour. A Doorway To Joe collects over 150

Whale & Star Press Joy Goswami: Selected Poems
Distributed by the University of Nebraska Press for Whale and Star PressJoy Goswami is probably the most highly regarded Bengali poet today, a worthy successor, in a land of poets, to Rabindranath Tagore and Jibanananda Das. Although his life has never been easy, his vocation as a poet has never been in doubt. The quality of Goswami’s prolific output has been widely acknowledged in West Bengal and India. Goswami’s poems are fierce—in their expression, in the impact of their juxtaposed images, and in the effect that the images have one on another. The poems possess immediacy, drawing readers pell-mell into the essential tensions and delighting in the magic of metamorphoses. Although readers might easily allow themselves to float on Goswami’s crisscrossing images, savor them on second reading, and linger with his crisp and penetrant words, they are quickly brought up short by meaning, for Goswami’s words are not just words but penetrating markers of sense. His métier is to cut through to the center of our emotional universe. Goswami has written more than thirty volumes of poetry and prose; this is the first American publication of his poems.
