Interest in the field of entrepreneurship and the small firm has developed exponentially in recent decades. However, concerns have been expressed regarding the need to effectively engage more critically with the lived experiences of practicing entrepreneurs through alternative approaches and methods seeking to account for and highlight the social, political and moral aspect of entrepreneurial practice. By drawing recognition to the lived practice of the entrepreneur, one can begin to position the notion of action as a process of socially constructed emergent practice. Such discussion would seek to give an alternative perspective as a method of re-shaping and understanding what it means to practice as an entrepreneur. This volume seeks to critically explore alternative dimensions to entrepreneurial and small firm research and practice. In addition, the authors seek to promote ideas from other research traditions and perspectives which are culturally enriched and challenge what we term entrepreneurial and small firm practice. Its proportionally-reduced dimensions and peculiar hydrological circulation render it susceptible to environmental and climatic constraints, which are rapidly evolving. The Mediterranean is therefore an ideal site to examine, in order to better understand a number of key oceanographic phenomena. This is especially true of the Ligurian Sea where, due to its geology, oceanic conditions are found close to the coast. Japan was closed to the world until 1854 and its technology then was literally medieval. Great Britain, France and Russia divided the globe in the nineteenth century, but Japan was catching up. Its army and navy were retrained by Western powers and equipped with the latest weapons and ships. Japan wanted to further emulate its European mentors and establish a protectorate over Korea, yet Japanese efforts were blocked by Imperial Russia who had their own designs on the peninsula. The Russo-Japanese War started with a surprise Japanese naval attack against an anchored enemy fleet still believing itself at peace. It ended with the Battle of Tsushima, the most decisive surface naval battle of the 20th century.
