The text introduces engineering to first-year undergraduate students using Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL). It draws on several different inquiry-based instruction types such as confirmation inquiry, structured inquiry, guided inquiry, and open inquiry, and all of their common elements. Professor Blum’s approach emphasizes the student’s role in the learning process, empowering them in the classroom to explore the material, ask questions, and share ideas, instead of the instructor lecturing to passive learners about what they need to know. The intention for this book is to outline a framework of clinical yoga therapy practice that addresses the whole child, rather than solely their symptoms. As such, collections of behaviors and clinical symptoms that have tended to co-occur in children will be addressed. The book will explore at least five developmental stages in the growth of children and adolescents, and general guidelines of how to adapt yoga practices for children of different ages and stages. Individuals of any age who suffer from chronic pain deal with a mind-body crisis on a regular basis. The book will explore the all-consuming effects of chronic pain and how children at different ages can learn to cope with it. Yoga for mood regulation in general will be covered and as well as how to differentially apply yoga techniques when the child/teen is experiencing primarily depressive or anxious symptomatology, or eating disorders. Yoga practices for trauma will be covered by age group, since the experience of trauma is radically different from one age to the next.Sensory integration and developmental disabilities will be addressed and illustrations will be used to assist the clinician in developing yoga practices that help child/teen integrate sensory experience. Yoga practices that involve kinesthetic, auditory and visual repetition help these kids stay connected to the world around them, and bring relief from the hallucinations. A Practice Library will be a visual index of all asanas, pranayamas, and other yoga practices discussed throughout the book and the Index will cover both psychological and yogic terms used in the book.

There is a growing discussion concerning the relationship between neuroethical reflections and cultural diversity, which is among the most impactful factors in shaping neuroethics, both as a scientific discipline and a social enterprise. The impacts of culture on science and its public perception are particularly relevant to neuroethics, which aims to facilitate the creation of an interface between neuroscience and society at large. Time is ripe for neuroethics to review the influence of the culturally specific contexts from which it originated (i.e. North America and Western Europe) and to also include other cultural perspectives in the discussion. This book illustrates a convergent approach among different cultures in identifying the main issues raised by neuroscience and emerging technologies. This should be taken as a starting point for advancing in the search for shared solutions, which are, if not definitive, at least sufficiently reliable to be translated into democratic deliberative processes.

How did Latin Americans represent their own countries as modern? By treating modernity as a ubiquitous category in which ideas of progress and decadence are far from being mutually exclusive, this book explores how different groups of intellectuals, between the late nineteenth and the early twentieth century, drew from European sociological and medical theories to produce a series of cultural representations based on notions of degeneration. Through a comparative analysis of three country case studies − Argentina, Uruguay and Chile − the book investigates four themes that were central to definitions of Latin American modernity at the turn of the century: race and the nation, the search for the autochthonous, education, and aesthetic values. Using a transnational approach, it shows how civilizational constructs were adopted and adapted in a post-colonial context where cultural modernism foreshadowed economic modernization. In doing this, this work sheds new light on the complex discursive negotiations through which the idea of ‘Latin America’ became gradually established in the region.
