Schiffer Publishing Ltd Mistel: The Piggy-Back Aircraft of the Luftwaffe
Development and operations of the German Mistel aircraft were kept under the tightest security, in an era fraught with the chaotic turmoil of a losing war. Aside from the limited space available - which precludes a detailed account of this unusual variant of the air war - it should also be mentioned that the quality of the photographic material often leaves something to be desired. This concession, which should be considered the exception rather than the rule, is necessary in the interest of providing a good general overview.

Classical Press of Wales Poetry Underpinning Power: Vergil's Aeneid: The Epic for Emperor Augustus
In recent decades, international research on Virgil has been marked, if not dominated, by the ideas of the 'Harvard school' and similar trends, according to which the poet was engaged in an elaborate work of subtle subversion, directed against the new ruler of the Roman world, Octavian-Augustus. Much of Virgil's oeuvre consists prima facie of eulogy of the ruler, and of emphatic prediction of his enduring success: this is explained by numerous modern critics as generic convention, or as studied ambiguity, or as irony. This paradoxical position, which runs against ancient - as well as much modern - interpretation of the poet, continues to create widespread unease. Stahl's new monograph is the most thorough study so far to question modern Virgilian criticism on philological grounds. He bases himself on the internal logic and rhetoric of the Aeneid, and considers also political, historical, archaeological and philosophical subjects addressed by the poem. He finds that the poet has so presented the morality of his central figure, Augustus' supposed ancestor Aeneas, and of those who (eventually) clash with him, Turnus and Dido, as to make it certain that Roman readers and hearers of the poem were meant to conclude in Aeneas' favour. Virgil's intention emerges from Stahl's thorough, ingenious and original argumentation as decisively pro-Augustan. Stahl's work, in short, will not only enliven debate on current critical hypotheses but for many will enduringly affect their credibility.

Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Innovation Networks and the New Asian Regionalism: A Knowledge Platform on Economic Productivity
Hans-Peter Brunner has produced here a very thoughtful piece of scholarship. This important book is genuinely innovative and very well executed. It addresses a very significant problem - how the integration and inter-linkage of national markets through regional cooperation and integration adds to productivity growth. The book goes on to define a meaningful theoretical framework, describes relevant regional experiences, and then presents a road map for cluster development. As such, it will be of value to academics, practitioners and policy makers alike.'- Kislaya Prasad, University of Maryland, College Park, USThe rise of Asia, as well as the future of regional cooperation and integration (RCI) the world over, will be profoundly influenced by the challenges of slowing productivity growth, increasing economic inequalities and systemic vulnerabilities. Such structural reform issues will require RCI policies that complement domestic policy reform. This unique book explains what drives the regional economic integration of nations and their contribution to national knowledge capital. It also lays out how such beneficial integration can generate broad-based, equitable wealth in Europe and Asia.Unique in the regional economic integration literature, this comprehensive book identifies the set of drivers of integration for productivity growth. Importantly, it describes and compares the experiences of the Baltic Sea Region with Asia's use of a set of institutionalized consensual knowledge and decision tools to drive inclusive and productive growth throughout a period dominated by the global economic crisis.Original and enlightening, Innovation Networks and the New Asian Regionalism will be vital reading for academics and researchers interested in regional integration and innovation. Policy makers and practitioners in regional development and economic geography will also find it to be an invaluable resource.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd German Rocket Fighters of World War II
This book is the first to present every rocket aircraft flown in Germany and the rocket systems developed by Walter and BMW, as well as several of the most interesting projects drawn up by Germany’s aviation industry. In 1940 the Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug launched the DFS 194, developed by Alexander Lippisch, and the tests with this experimental plane laid the foundation for the Messerschmitt Me 163, the world’s first operational rocket fighter. Using a Walter rocket engine, the Me 163 achieved hitherto unimaginable climb rates and speeds. It was in this rocket powered plane that, on 2 October 1941, Heini Dittmar reached 1003 km/h and thus became the first pilot in the world to break the magic mark of 1000 km/h. In so doing, he also brushed against the sound barrier. The technology incorporated into Germany’s rocket planes – the Messerschmitt Me 163 Bs and Cs, the Me 263, and Bachem Ba 349 Natter – was recognized throughout the world as cutting edge and after the war had a major impact on the technological development of other countries. This book is a must-have for every aviation enthusiast.

Rudolf Steiner Press Twin Roads to the New Millennium: The Christmas Conference and the Karma of the Anthroposophical Society
First published in the run-up to the new millennium, van Manen's seminal study remains a unique and important source for understanding the spiritual and karmic background to the Anthroposophical Movement and Society, as founded around the work of the twentieth-century seer and scientist Rudolf Steiner. In his lectures on karma given in 1924, Steiner spoke of the principal Aristotelian and Platonic traditions - and the movements based on their thinking. Van Manen studies the streams of destiny connected to these groups, and elaborates upon Steiner's presentations - also tackling the apparent contradictions in the Karmic Relationships lecture series. The author discusses the background to these groupings of destiny, beginning with the cosmic Michael School in the life before birth. He throws light on many different esoteric aspects connected to anthroposophy, including the archetypal representations of thinking arising from the Middle Ages; the Arthurian and Grail movements; the mystery of 'Old' and 'Young' souls; the individuals identified as 'Seekers for Christ' and 'Servants of Michael', and the 'Shepherds' and 'Kings'. We are led to the point at which the two principal groups of souls incarnate and meet together on earth for the first time ever - an event which is to take place within the contemporary anthroposophical movement. In an inspiring conclusion, the author presents his thoughts on a great Whitsun happening at the end of the twentieth century, and expounds on the tasks of the new millennium and the future of anthroposophy.
