Aerofilms Ltd was born on 9 May 1919. An unprecedented business venture, it hoped to marry the still fledgling technology of powered flight to the discipline of photography. Its founders were Claude Grahame-White, an internationally-famous English aviation pioneer, and Francis Lewis Wills, a trained architect who had flown as an observer for the Royal Naval Air Service during the First World War. In this timely volume of contributed articles, the authors describe the newly implemented faculty development programs at seven urban universities. With varying success, each of these universities improved the preparation of schoolteachers by developing programs to educate their own faculties on ways to address the problems of urban children, their schools, and their communities. Until recently, few urban universities were committed to local community development. The authors of the case studies presented here persuasively argue that urban universities should broaden their missions to include this commitment, and they provide concrete examples of how that can be done.

Ossian is a collection of epic poems that bring out the figure of the hero, Fingal, which name comes from Scots Gaelic Fionnghall, meaning 'White Stranger'. The poems where originally written in Gaelic and translated by James MacPherson into English, although there is a long lasting debate about the authenticity of the poems, since some historians believe MacPherson wrote them himself, whilst Irish historians hold that Ossian has its roots in Irish myths, not Scottish. Despite the debate, The Poems of Ossian achieved international success and have been compared with Homer's Iliad, inspiring many later writers such as Walter Scott and Goethe.
