Quercus Publishing Poems to Fix a F**ked Up World
Sometimes it's hard to keep looking up at the stars when the gutter we're in seems so full of sh*t. But isn't that why we need poetry? Oscar Wilde wrote some of his best poetry when he was in prison for 'the love that dare not speak its name'. Nelson Mandela held fast to his 'unconquerable soul' on Robben Island with the help of the words a poet wrote about his battle with tuberculosis a century before. So maybe it's not inconceivable that the words in this little book could help you put some of the sh*t in perspective, get all the important bits of your life - like sleep, work, food, travel, love and learning - in some kind of balance, so you can go back to star-gazing again . . . Taking as its starting point the classic 'wheel of balance' life-coach model, this beautifully packaged collection of extracts and short poems gathers wisdom old and new in a perfect gift for anyone who needs comfort in this f**ked up world of ours.'This is not a poetry book as you know it, this is a life raft.' Emerald Street on Poems for a World Gone to Sh*t.

Profile Books Ltd Women Making History: PROCESSIONS THE BANNERS
On Sunday 10 June 2018, tens of thousands of women wearing scarves of green, white and violet took to the streets in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London as part of PROCESSIONS, a mass artwork to mark 100 years since the first women were allowed to vote in the UK. Produced by arts charity Artichoke and commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK's arts programme for the First World War centenary, PROCESSIONS was a moment for celebration and reflection on what it means to be a woman today. In the months leading up to 10 June, 100 artists were commissioned to work with arts and community organisations across the country to make banners: original artworks inspired by the banners made by the suffragists and suffragettes who had campaigned for votes for women a century before. These twenty-first-century banners were powerful statements made in text and textile, referencing the earlier struggles for equality and reflecting the modern-day concerns of women and those identifying as women. Women Making History is the first opportunity to see each of these banners up close in all their glorious detail and to observe a historic moment, when a mass artwork made by women in all their diversity transformed the central streets of our four capital cities. With contributions from Dame Helen Pankhurst, June Sarpong and Saoirse Monica Jackson, and many other collaborators, artists and participants from across the country, this fully illustrated book shows how art can both make and bring history alive.

Europa Editions (UK) Ltd Japan: The Passenger
“Some Japanese stories end violently. Others never end at all, but only cut away, at the moment of extreme crisis, to a butterfly, or the wind, or the moon.”—Brian PhillipsVisitors from the West look with amazement, and sometimes concern, at Japan’s monolithic social structures and unique, complex culture industry; the gigantic scale of its tech corporations and the resilience of its traditions; the extraordinary diversity of the subcultures that flourish in its “post-human” megacities. The country nonetheless remains an impossibly complicated jigsaw puzzle whose overall design eludes us. Its inscrutability has made the country an inexhaustible source of inspiration for stories, reflections, and reportage. The subjects in this volume range from the Japanese veneration of the dead to the Tokyo music scene, from urban alienation to cinema, from sumo to machismo. Caught between an ageing population and extreme post-modernity, immobile yet futuristic, Japan is an ideal observation point from which to understand our age and the one to come.

BLOOMSBURY BLOOMSBURY AT 35
In London in the mid-1980s, over late nights and early mornings, Nigel Newton and David Reynolds came up with a plan: the establishment of a major independent publishing company, fuelled by ground-breaking, ambitious ideas. In 1987, their plans came to fruition with the announcement of Bloomsbury Publishing. For all the ambition embedded in Bloomsbury's DNA from its inception, no one could have envisaged the 35 years that would follow, years that saw Bloomsbury grow into the UK s largest independent publisher.
