Of all the things that Tom Wolfe carves, none is more popular among collectors and students than his canes and walking sticks. Following the success of his fancy cane book last season, Tom is sharing some of his techniques for creating a fancy walking stick. The difference is in the size and shape of the creature. A walking stick is usually longer to provide more support for the hiker, and has a knob at the top rather than a handle. This knob provides the carver with many possibilities. In this book Tom carves a woodsman's head. He takes the reader through the process from the beginning of the carving to the attachment of the head to the shaft and the decoration of the shaft. Each step is illustrated with a color photograph and a clear explanation. The gallery give other ideas for carving the knob, and patterns are provided for several of them. Schiffer Publishing Ltd Scroll Sawing in Metal: Patterns and Techniques
Frank Pozsgai is internationally known as an artist of the scroll saw. His previous books have focused almost entirely on what the scroll saw can do with wood, its most common medium. Together they explore this great medium for the scroll saw. The process is simple, and with a few extra steps, cutting metal is as enjoyable as cutting wood. And the results are wonderful. Because metal is pliable, it is possible to give it shape by bending it. The results include chandeliers and other decorative, but useful decorative accessories for the home. With heat or chemicals it is possible to give metal very interesting patinas that add color and character. All is explained in clear, step-by-step instructions, illustrated in color photos. In addition the author supplies many patterns to get you started and a gallery to inspire you. For many this will be a new experience with the scroll saw.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd A Century of American Sculpture: The Roman Bronze Works Foundry
For over a century the majority of America’s major sculptors chose one particular foundry to cast their works in bronze. To study the ledgers and archival photographs of Roman Bronze Works is to see the unfolding of American sculpture through the 20th century, for here are examples from the many schools and “isms” that locked the nation’s art world in titanic battles between realism and modernism and the many significant styles in between. Over 700 photographic examples (many in color) and biographical information about over 120 sculptors make up this book, the first to examine R.B.W.’s role in American art.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Germany's Tiger Tanks Series Tigers at the Front: A Photo Study
Tiger ! - the very name that Allied troops feared. It came to symbolize the superiority of German tank design. This book has been created as a photo essay showing the best available and rare photographs of Tigers with units at the front. No tank that the Allies fielded in World War II was comparable to this combination of the 88mm gun with massive armor protection. Allied tankers didn't think that they stood a chance of defeating these formidable Tigers. They only hoped that these heavy tanks would breakdown, become immobilized in soft ground, or be damaged by lucky hits on vulnerable points.

Schiffer Publishing Ltd Hula Heaven: The Queen's Album
This book represents the ultimate Hawaiian experience and art form: the Hula, through photographs taken in the 1880s and 1890s. These images were gathered by the last reigning monarch of Hawaii, Queen Liliuokalani (1839 -1917), who reigned from 1891 until 1893, and were presented in an album to her personal nurse as a token of her Aloha. For the most part, the photographs were previously unknown and unpublished, and represent some of the most powerful and poignant images of Hula known to exist. Several non-Hula images are among the photos, adding interest to the album’s contents. A brief history of the Queen’s fascinating life is included. Anyone who has felt the magic of Hawaiian Hula will enjoy this unusual book.
