Kluwer Academic Publishers Group The Printing Ink Manual
The first edition of the Printing Ink Manual was published by the Society of British Printing Ink Manufacturers in 1961 to fill the need for an authorative textbook on printing technology, which would serve both as a training manual and a reliable reference book for everyday use. The book soon became established as a standard source of information on printing inks and reached its fourth edition by 1988. This, the fifth edition, is being published only five years later, so rapid has been the development in technology. The objective of the Printing Ink Manual remains unchanged. It is a practical handbook designed for use by everyone engaged in the printing ink industry and the associated industries. It provides all the information required by the ink technical for the day-to-day formulation of printing inks. It supplies the factory manager with details of the latest equipment and manufacturing methods, including large-scale production, and gives guidance on achieving quality assessment and total quality management specifications. Care has been taken to maintain the value of the Manual for training both technical personnel and others who requiresome kn- ledge of inks. Readers with little scientific knowledge will not find dif- culty in using the Manual, but sufficient chemistry and physics have been included to provide an explanation of the underlying principles and theories governing the behaviour of inks for use by the advanced te- nologist. Suppliers of raw materials, substrate manufacturers, printers and print users will find the book a valuable source of information.

The History Press Ltd Along the Kent Coast
This book is a unique photographic record of a journey along the Kent coastline. From the starkness of Dungeness in the south to the magisterial sweep of Dartford Bridge in the north, the descriptions of Paul Harris and the contemporary photographs of Ray Hollands capture the county’s rich variety of town- and landscape, its ancient fortifications and modern harbours, its busy riverways, hidden creeks and isolated headlands. But it is above all the unusual, the hidden and the bizarre that this book reveals: the images presented here record both precise moments in time and place and yet suggest timeless, almost sculptural qualities. Whether the scene be dramatic or everyday, whether the site be well known or unfrequented, Along the Kent Coast offers a new perspective that will continuously surprise and delight both those familiar with Kent and the tourist or traveller just passing through. These are images to treasure, to look at and cherish time and time again.

Dundurn Group Ltd The Paris Game: Charles de Gaulle, the Liberation of Paris, and the Gamble that Won France
At a crucial moment in the Second World War, an obscure French general reaches a fateful personal decision: to fight on alone after his government’s flight from Paris and its capitulation to Nazi Germany. Amid the ravages of a world war, three men — a general, a president, and a prime minister — are locked in a rivalry that threatens their partnership and puts the world’s most celebrated city at risk of destruction before it can be liberated. This is the setting of The Paris Game, a dramatic recounting of how an obscure French general under sentence of death by his government launches on the most enormous gamble of his life: to fight on alone after his country’s capitulation to Nazi Germany. In a game of intrigue and double-dealing, Charles de Gaulle must struggle to retain the loyalty of Winston Churchill against the unforgiving opposition of Franklin Roosevelt and the traitorous manoeuvring of a collaborationist Vichy France. How he succeeds in restoring the honour of France and securing its place as a world power is the stuff of raw history, both stirring and engrossing.

Carcanet Press Ltd Selected Poems
Robert Henryson is the greatest of the English fabulists. His master may have been Aesop, but the voice that speaks the 'Moral Fables'is distinctively that of his place - Scotland - and his chosen tradition. His debt to Chaucer, from whom his best-known work, the 'Testament of Cresseid', clearly derives, is a large one, and he acknowledges it generously. But it is a positive debt, not the kind that might have stifled his native originality. He is as distinctly himself as his contemporaries Dunbar and Douglas are. Little is known of Henryson's life but much can be surmised about his humane vision from the poems, particularly the 'Moral Fables'. He is the most approachable and benign of the Scottish poets of his time. In this selection of the best of Henryson's work W.R.J. Barron, Senior Lecturer in English Language at the University of Manchester, includes a full critical introduction and notes.

Open Court Publishing Co ,U.S. Yours Faithfully, Bertrand Russell: Letters to the Editor 1904-1969
This comprehensive volume captures one of the twentieth century's greatest philosopher's lifelong battle with the forces of injustice, ignorance, and cruelty - a crusade not always welcomed by his own government, which twice imprisoned him. Russell used his more than 400 letters to the editor, most of which are collected in this volume, to reach large numbers of the public quickly when his controversial stances made it difficult to have his articles published in the popular press. Yours Faithfully, Bertrand Russell allows us to see Russell at his polemical best, dueling wittily and wisely with both ordinary citizens and the most powerful political leaders of his day, freely expressing his insights on a wide range of subjects from war and peace to human rights, early childhood education, sexual ethics, and religion. These letters tell us much about the social and political history of our last century and relay an inspiring story of one man's protracted efforts to infuse the public spirit with reason and compassion.

Back in print after fifty years and with a new introduction by Ray Brassier, this often overlooked but prescient collection of Marcuse's lectures makes an impassioned plea for the overthrowing of capitalism. Analysing the work of Freud and Marx, and taking in topics like automation, work, postcapitalism, utopia, and technology, Psychoanalysis, Politics, and Utopia excavates the psychic roots of the current crisis of capitalist civilisation, and gives us a blueprint for the emancipation of humanity from the toils of capitalism. In a world reeling from the ongoing collapse of the neoliberal consensus, coupled with the accelerating pace of catastrophic climate change wrought by capitalism, Marcuse’s radical insights in Psychoanalysis, Politics, and Utopia are as urgently relevant today as they were in 1970.

University of Georgia Press Losing Power: African Americans and Racial Polarization in Tennessee Politics
Tennessee has made tremendous strides in race relations since the end of de jure segregation. African Americans are routinely elected and appointed to state and local offices, the black vote has tremendous sway in statewide elections, and legally explicit forms of racial segregation have been outlawed. Yet the idea of transforming Tennessee into a racially equitable state-a notion that was central to the black freedom movement during the antebellum and Jim Crow periods-remains elusive for many African Americans in Tennessee, especially those living in the most underresourced and economically distressed communities.Losing Power investigates the complex relationship between racial polarization, black political influence, and multiracial coalitions in Tennessee in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Sekou M. Franklin and Ray Block examine the divide in values, preferences, and voting behaviors between blacks and whites, contending that this racial divide is both one of the causes and one of the consequences of black Tennesseans' recent loss of political power.Tennessee has historically been considered more politically moderate and less racially conservative than the states of the Deep South. Yet in recent years and particularly since the mid- 2000s, Republicans have cemented their influence in the state. While Franklin and Block's analysis and methodology focus on state elections, political institutions, and public policy, Franklin and Block have also developed a conceptual framework for racial politics that goes beyond voting patterns to include elite-level discourse (issue framing), intrastate geographical divisions, social movements, and pressure from interest groups.

Liverpool University Press Public Sculpture of Edinburgh (Volume 2): The New Town, Leith and the Outer Suburbs
This book is the companion to Public Sculpture of Edinburgh, volume 1, ‘The Old Town and South Edinburgh’, extending the coverage to the First New Town and its environs, and beyond that to the former independent burgh of Leith. It provides a comprehensive and detailed account of the entire spectrum of public sculptures to be found in these parts of the city, including free-standing commemorative monuments, architectural carvings, and contemporary site-specific interventions. Based on extensive new research, the text is structured as a catalogue raisonné, with each entry comprising a detailed description of the work, an account of how it came to be commissioned, and an analysis of its cultural significance. There are also separate appendices dealing with important works that have been lost or destroyed, minor works and sculptural coats of arms. The study of public sculpture is now recognised as offering a range of new insights into the development of the urban realm. Those insights are brought together here to provide a comprehensive resource for historians, architects, urban planners and conservators, and a narrative history that will be of interest to all who care about Edinburgh, and wish to celebrate its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Liverpool University Press Public Sculpture of Edinburgh (Volume 1): The Old Town and South Edinburgh
This is the twentieth volume in the Public Sculpture of Britain series, the ambitious collaboration between Liverpool University Press and the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association that will eventually document the outdoor sculptural heritage of the whole of the UK. Public sculpture is defined in this context as any work of three-dimensional art located in an unregulated public space, typically consisting of free-standing commemorative monuments, architectural carvings and statues attached to buildings, and contemporary site-specific interventions. A subject that was until recently overlooked as a matter of marginal relevance to the history of art, public sculpture has been shown through the Liverpool University Press series to offer a range of important insights into the built environment, enriching our understanding of architecture and city planning, and raising many challenging issues relating to the development of society as a whole. This is nowhere better illustrated than in Edinburgh, where the richness of its history as a capital city, and the dramatic power of its urban topography, have combined to create a uniquely fertile breeding ground for public sculpture of every kind. With the coverage divided between two companion volumes, the study begins appropriately with the historic Old Town, and the various suburbs extending from it to the south.

Baker Publishing Group 12 Faithful Men – Portraits of Courageous Endurance in Pastoral Ministry
Most pastors know when they enter the ministry that they will spend time helping others through times of suffering. What they usually do not realize, though, is that they too will suffer. Caught off guard, many of them end up deeply hurt and quit the ministry, deciding that perhaps they misunderstood God's call on their lives or that they simply do not have what it takes. But church history is filled with compelling stories of men who were profoundly afflicted while they carried out their ministry and yet persevered faithfully until death. Now the editors of The Gospel Coalition have collected inspiring stories of twelve faithful men who endured great suffering for the cause of Christ. The stories of the apostle Paul, John Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, John Bunyan, Wang Mindao, and others show that suffering in the context of ministry is expected--and it's never wasted. Pastors and ministry leaders, as well as those who support them, will find in this collection encouragement to run the race with endurance.

Emerald Publishing Limited New Technology-Based Firms in the New Millennium: Production and Distribution of Knowledge
The research and policy evaluations presented in these papers represent a uniquely valuable evolving record of policy and research on high technology small firms through many changes in economic conditions and government policy approaches over more the a decade and a half. Specific issues in the book series cover many of the key industrial development policies adopted by developed, and developing, national governments since the early 1990's including, for example, writings on policy and practice concerning science parks, incubators, academic enterprise, industrial networking and the role of clusters in nurturing high technology small firms formation and growth. In particular, the on-going problem of early stage high technology funding has been a theme of constant concern since 1993, and because it remains resistant to amelioration, will endure into the future. Both the conference and the ensuing book series represent a pre-eminent vehicle for all the major international researchers concerned with high technology small firms to present their work to each other and the wider public.

Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd Handbook on Urban Development in China
In recent decades, China has undergone an extraordinary transformation from an overwhelmingly rural population to that of a predominantly urban one. This major new Handbook examines and explores the key features and implications of this urbanising process from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Using three overarching themes - progress and enhancement, dislocation and tension, and the unique features of Chinese urban development - leading experts in the field provide a contemporary analysis of critical issues affecting China today. This includes the nature of urban change, governance and migration, and how this has impacted the politics, culture, economy and environment. Unprecedented in depth and breadth, contributors both from within mainland China and across the globe offer varied analyses and perspectives of continuity and reform in policies that allow China to continue to evolve. Sections also cover individuality, the urban-rural interface and possible future policy directions, with crucial discussion about continuing urbanisation in an increasingly interconnected world.Essential reading for academics and students of urban and Chinese studies, this Handbook provides a timely and much needed reference work for those who want to better understand China's urbanisation experiences.
